The best, my tree has about 50 fruits this year and they are mind-blowing as usual.

I don’t pay attention to seed growth of the varieties we grow to eat.

Craig you’re probably the only person that I know that loves PPK as much as I do.. 🤤 definitely love it’s consistency in flavor and production.

I have 3 mango varieties in my yard. All planted roughly 2 years ago. My Glenn and Carrie are doing well and produced mangos. My lemon merengue has just been stagnant. All new growth just tends to burn. Mature leaves are very green though. I notice the trunk darkening at the bottom and peeling. Any ideas what could be causing this? I don’t notice any insects bothering it. Watering and fertilizing has been the same as my other 2 and as I said, the other 2 are doing great.

LSanti I’m not sure. We mulched it heavily and haven’t done much else. Have you tried tipping it this time of year? Maybe post a pic on tropicalfruitforum.com. There are many growers on there with a lot more experience than us. The only issues we’ve had with mango trees is when we haven’t amended the soil a bit and didn’t mulch thick enough, the roots never grew past the original pot size and the trees failed.

I was wondering if you knew anything about the anthracnose or disease resistance of any of these mango varieties? Ugly Betty or Venus?

    1. So do you think PPK trumps LZ, PC and the other citrus flavored mangoes for taste alone?
    2. In SRQ when is the PPK season and how long does it last? Do they all ripen/drop at once or do you get at least. 4+ week season.
    Thanks.

Steve M For taste alone, I (Celeste) don’t think so, but it’s consistently delicious and it’s Craig’s favorite. We just started growing this tree about 2 years ago. This year, we have had fruit ripen individually from early July until today (last one is just now yellowing up).

What if lemon is not one of your favorite flavors;, for example, I don't like lemon candy or cake, and only occasionally like lemon meringue pie. I don't like lemon on fish. I really only like lemon in lemonade.

Fred Bloggs You should try one sometime to see how you like it. It’s still a mango. I have friends who prefer Lemon Meringue, Lemon Zest, and other citrusy mangos and others who prefer coconut cream and others. But all still rate them as excellent mangos.

Now that I know of at least two places to find a variety of fresh in season local mangoes not too far from me, I will try to sample as many as I can next season. I was thinking of trying to plant a tree or two in my yard before that, Haden which I know and like, and a smaller tree that is considered a top mango, maybe a Carrie, which I haven't tried yet, or perhaps I should wait till next season so I can sample various varieties like Fruit Punch, Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Marvel, Orange Sherbet, Coconut Cream, Pina Colada, Carrie, Edward, etc.

Fred Bloggs Try some first. I’m not a huge fan of Carrie.

Thanks. Can you recommend any other mango that you really like that wouldn't get as big as a Haden because room is more limited in the front yard--I have no backyard, just a pool and patio. My neighbor has a Kent and a Keitt in his backyard

Fred Bloggs we keep all of our mango trees heavily pruned. My favorite mangos are Lemon Meringue, Coconut Cream, Orange Sherbet, SweetTart, Peach Cobbler, and Pina Colada. Pickering is a good mango with a dwarf growing habit - doesn’t require a lot of pruning.
