    Wonderful video, I have been waiting for someone to do a review on this block for this card. How are the memory and vrm temps with the block on? They did a very unique design with this block doing multiple o-rings and passages

      After playing Red Dead Redemption 2 (this game is GPU-bound even with 3090) for an hour, here are the stabilized temps taken directly from EVGA Precision X1 software:
      GPU1: 51C (This is also the canonical GPU temperature reported by other monitoring software, including Windows)
      GPU2: 65C
      GPU MEM1: 57C
      GPU MEM2: 58C
      GPU MEM3: 57C
      GPU PWR1: 63C
      GPU PWR2: 66C
      GPU PWR3: 71C
      GPU PWR4: 67C
      GPU PWR5: 57C

    On the 3090, it is imperative to put the active backplate on water, otherwise the memory junction temperatures will still be high.

    50°c under load seems a bit high. I've not got a specific reference but looking at your system you have good radiators and fans. I guess it all depends on ambient temp. Usually I have around 21°c ambient.

    Great video Jason - what effect did the waterblock have on the ICX RAM and memory junction temps before and after? The 3090 FTW both throttle at 110degC junction temp and this seems to be approx 75-80degC as reported by the ICX ram temp sensors on the FTW3 and FTW3 Ultra cards. Edit: Ah I have found some answers in the comments below - any thoughts on the back plate / RAM temps?

    • @LGTMApproval
      @LGTMApproval  3 роки тому +1

      Sure you could. However the backplate is a solid block so the light can only possibly come out from the side gap. The RGB from the main block itself will dwarf the tiny little bit of light coming from the EVGA logo.

  • @tpmeredith
    @tpmeredith 3 роки тому

    Mine runs a lot cooler than this with the same waterblock. I used Liquid Metal however and its on a 480mm radiator. I also converted the backplate to "Active cooling" DIY with a ram block (mounted ram block to backplate and used thermal paste between backplate and the ram block). My GPU idle's in low 20's and barely even breaks into the 40's even when gaming. Ambient temps between 23-25c.

    • @tpmeredith
      @tpmeredith 3 роки тому

      @@ntharo Sure thing - here's a link to what it looked like. I basically bought an alphacool 4 slot ram block (honestly a 6 slot would be even better, but I was impatient and could get a 4 slot faster). Before installing the gpu backplate, I drilled 4 small holes in the backplate and mounted the block to the backplate. I used actual thermal paste but the few examples I saw in forums used memory pads for less mess (but I'm sure paste will transfer better). imgur.com/a/zLoZUNz

    • @milantrenovszki
      @milantrenovszki 3 роки тому

      Are you using the supplied thermal pads or have you tried replacing them? I have this block coming in and I'm trying to figure out whether I should upgrade the pads for better memory cooling. The default are 3 W/mK, but it gets expensive real quick if you try to find better ones... wondering if it's worth it.

    • @tpmeredith
      @tpmeredith 3 роки тому

      @@milantrenovszki I'm using the stock ones. I contemplated the same but ended up sticking with the stock ones since getting much better like you said gets expensive quick. I'm not sure if upgrading the pads, without active cooling would help a lot mainly because once the backplate is saturated with heat there is nothing other than case airflow movement to dissipate that heat, if that makes sense. However with active cooling it might indeed make an even bigger difference.

    • @milantrenovszki
      @milantrenovszki 3 роки тому

      @@tpmeredith I asked Alphacool about the stock pads and they said it's their 3 W/mK one. I found the 12 W/mK Gelid GP pads for $10 per sheet on Aliexpress which is not horrible, so once they get here (probably a month), I'll see if they make any difference. I mine in my downtime and memory temps are main concern, so I wanted to make sure heat transfer is not impeded there. Btw, have you tried mining with your setup? If yes, what are your junction temps? I'm also contemplating going with the RAM block for the backplace, would be much cheaper than the MP5Works solution, it just has smaller coverage, so not sure.
