I am from the Netherlands and remember this video very well. People commenting here seem to forget that all bands were lip syncing on TV in Europe during those days. I also think the sound quality would have sucked if they did it live at the beach. Kiss did this video as a lot of people were watching this event on TV. So it was a great exposure for them.
It was in the dunes of scheveningen, very windy, cold and rainy location. been there 2 years ago again on a vacation. A dutch television station called Veronica was sending out shows then were they raced on motorbikes over the muddy beach, very spectaculair those days lol
For all of those complaining about the lip synching: It was standard across most tv shows in Europe back in the 70's and 80's. I get it, these days it looks horrible, but if you wanted to promote your material in Europe back then, these type of presentations you simply had to do. All the greats did it back then, From Mick Jagger to Rod Stewart, Phil Collins, Scorpions,,, even Iron Maiden and AC/DC had to do a few! Sign of the times.

Kulick joined in Oct of 84, so that means this is near that time as he is in the clip.It would have been cold as hell - they would never have been booked to play outside in the Netherlands in October or November. This is clearly a promo/mime. Nobody is playing - aside from Carr - who is playing lightly or has pads on his drums. What we hear is straight off the album. I don't know why they did this shoot - but it's cool that we can see it.

Had he "been there" he probably would have said "Sure we'll play that beach race, let's get our crew ready and get our whole fucking show there. We only have to play two songs, I don't care we'll give the fans what they want're going to do it for real!"

It's true, it was in an older interview..but due to contractual conflicts, this show kept getting pushed back and by the time they got to it, Vinnie and already left. But yes, it was for some silly tv show.

I doubt that very much, Vinnie Vincent is in the original video in 1983. This is 1984 with Bruce Kulick, this is most likely just filmed for a local music show or some other promotion
you're right, anyway, when KISS came to Buenos Aires for the first time, they played on a famous tv show called Ritmo De La Noche, every musician that came to Argentina those years made a lyp-sinc performance to promote the show, but KISS refused to do a lyp-sinc and they actually played live, you can check it out here on youtube, also you can check Poison's performace, they totally destroyed the tv set because they weren't allowed to play live

I saw them on this European tour in Norway. I remember thinking about Bruce: Who is this douchebag??? He even played some keyboard. It was really weird but still a great concert that made my ears biiiip for 2 days straight.

I think they were recording a music video or maybe something for MTV,but they didn't use this material for the real music video. Why else would they stare into a wall instead of the audience when they were playing ?
At 2:40, Gene's voice sings, "It's only right now," and Gene isn't anywhere near a mic, and just in case he was wearing a lavalier, his mouth doesn't move, either. What a shame (sham), especially since I saw KISS on the HITS tour in 1991 and Paul made fun of Milli Vanilli at that show.

I am a diehard KISS fan and this is definitely the silliest video KISS has ever done. Interesting cause it is rare but Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons performance seem really cheesy. Eric Carr is cool You cant fuckup performing on the drums, LOL. Thanks for sharing. I do have a poster that was an import taken from this show or performance. Kinda sucks cause it is Lick it up they are singing and they are in the Animalize gear with Bruce Kulick. Silly but definitely worth watching for the Diehards
Fortunately, this was pretty rare, where they lip-synched to a studio or pre-recorded version, in a live TV appearance. The time where Eric C, Paul and Gene performed as a trio was another. The SLC Winter Olympics another. Maybe a handful of others. Sometimes the venue or arrangements don't lend to or provide for a live performance. That being said, I hate lip synch performances.

the show might have had all artists lip sync. Dick Clarks American Bandstand had that also. nobody ever sang live on the show
