4:35 To be fair, Hobbits age about as fast as Men. Bilbo was 50 when he set out for Erebor, which is still a valid age to go on an adventure. And while he was 111 at the start of the Fellowship, it is only because he had the One Ring. That age is considered one of a venerable elder among Hobbits.

If they had used the eagles, Sauron would've seen them the second they reached the mountain range around Mordor and torn them apart with arrows and the Fell Beasts.
In the movies I totally agree. Frodo was just a wimp and Merry and Pippin were more having a good time/stumbling into victories. And Sam was the only one taking his mission seriously and succeeding. But in the books, it's far more prominent that Frodo is actively fighting the Ring and that weight of mental combat for the control over his mind. It's just PJ couldn't really portray his struggle, which kinda sucked but Ig it is what it is.
Sam is the real hero according to Tolkien. But Bilbo is extremely impressive. He gave away his share of the treasure in an attempt to buy peace. Unlike Galadriel and Faramir, he does not get his chance to show his quality handed to him on a platter. He makes one where I saw none.

To be fair, so were the evil characters, so the protagonists had to be if they weren't to die in the first five minutes.
