Commercial Mining: Detonator Shells/Blasting Caps
To meet the stringent requirements of the explosives/commercial mining industry, Gem has vertically integrated. Detonator shells (or blasting caps) are manufactured from aluminum, copper, brass and stainless steel on vertical transfer presses to 4 inches in overall length at our plants in the US and Vietnam. Proprietary tooling and statistical controls ensure dimensional conformance while in-house degreasing ensures cleanliness. In house, we also maintain automated offset printing capabilities that allow us to print directly onto the shells and heat-treating equipment, for annealing.

One of the caramel into the chocolate question I would like to know, is how, on a production level can you produce a consistently precision MS delay element? These are really the key challenge as I see it and the most critical in producing a product that can make or break precision blasting. I see electronic caps are now moving into the market, expensive for now but will probably become the mainstay in the non too distant future.

Are you filling the composition of asa and petn into empty shells manually or else by automated machines
