- Additional footage/scenes filmed during the episode 'The Radical' which also introduced Robert Conrad starring in Jack Webb's new series about the District Attorney's Office known as "The D.A."
Most have never seen this footage of Malloy and Reed since 'The D.A.' was a major failure for Mark VII Limited and only aired four months on NBC due to low ratings. It was an awful show and I hesitated for years to add this ADAM-12 segment because it was hastily written and poorly produced with old stock footage and stand-ins as Malloy and Reed.
The stache on Harry Morgan is silly. Conrad's dialogue sounds more like "Joe Friday" and is amusing to see "Jim West" (WILD WILD WEST) try to play "Joe Friday."
The Plymouth Satellite used was the temporary unit (due to Marty crashing the main unit during filming of The Radical) with the temporary city seal and slogan on the doors. A rear screen projector is used instead of towing the car and it looks pretty campy...reminiscent of the 'Batman' TV series. Also note the Trio T-2 (can lights) are not angled downward since the tow car was not used. There were always two cars... the "tow-car" which stayed mounted on the the "tow-vehicle" until needed as a backup unit in a scene and the "location" car, which we all see pulling up to the scene. This unit was used and parked in a sound stage (carefully lighted...hmm?) with the rear screen projecting the background and the Script Supervisor was standing off camera reading the dispatcher calls.
Police procedures were not followed and the bad guys in the episode are in the old (DRAGNET) Friday and Gannon car. All of the footage was filmed in a Universal sound stage and on the Universal backlot and if you look closely, it is not Milner backing the car up away from the gun fire - a stunt driver was used and can clearly be seen.
Even though it's a bit campy... please enjoy!
