Well done Upcrate. If you are someone who likes to dabble in different art techniques, or you are a little tired of where you are and fancy trying new stuff this is stunning.
This is fun and different. I do like the idea of getting rid of stock like this. People get a bargain and they clear out inventory. Hope this means that next year is more exciting! Especially love all that paper!
Oh wow, that does look like a great value-for-money! I think it's a very sensible way of shifting stock; they mention on the website that it contains products from old boxes, which is a prerequisite for this kind of thing. I don't think it would be worth it for me personally, but that's because I've found my happy medium(s) and I don't want to branch out from them; I like them for a reason! But I can definitely imagine splitting it with friends, or getting it for an art class/art therapy group or something like that
Hi, Gem! What an amazing box! Thank you for this unboxing! You'll enjoy the W&N cartridge paper. It takes a lot of working and erasing without complaining, and the texture gives interest, too. I grew up in the era when in the UK it was W&N, Daler Rowney or Derwent. The Daler Rowney masking fluid is even worse for odour than the W&N, so as I grew up with the W&N, I have become inured to it. I found the Pebeo left blue residue on the paper, and masking pens dry out before I finish them. Instead, I decant the W&N from the bottle into 5ml bottles and keep the main bottle tipped upside down to keep it from gumming up (the little bottles get moved about in the grab-and-go bag and plein air kit, and the desk bottle is regularly moved (though less regularly used!). If I want a fine line, I use a ruling pen. Working with the little bottles is not only easier, but also means less odour! It's a super-tempting box, but thankfully, there's too much in the box which I'd never use . Acrylic paint, being plastic based, I won't use now, even though I tried it years ago and loved the change in the way I painted when I used it. Alcohol markers smell, so another no-go. Charcoal is no good for me because my skin and the asthma hate it! Oils? I used them and loved them, and thought I'd brought a set with me when I moved here, but I thought wrong... but a few random tubes would tempt me to buy more, and I have enough of other varied supplies to keep me going for a few years yet... 😇 So with that in mind, and my budgetary restraints, I'm very glad there's enough in the box for me to resist the temptation of a very good bargain!!! 😄 Thanks again, Gem! 😊
Even though the acrylic and oil supplies wouldn't be my cup of tea, I like the watercolour paper blocks and the Viviva watercolour sheets. The rest would be great for re-gifting! 😊
I’m so glad it’s 100% better than last year I think. I love how much paper you get. 😊 definitely worth while for those who don’t subscribe too. Thanks Gem for unboxing 😊❤🎉
Hullo Gem, I do enjoy watching your videos and seeing your unboxing videos are always so fun! I am a convert to the masking “pens” too! I have used a ruling pen instead of a brush when applying masking fluid. That smell most masking fluids have is from the ammonia. I was given a collection of acrylic paint when a fellow student quit the painting class in college and I took the opportunity to try a large canvas(4 x 6 feet) and to go wild with an abstract painting. I believe that I got my best grade from the instructor, but I did not care for the finished artwork at all! I did appreciate the ability to go way out of my comfort zone. I did end up giving the canvas to the person who donated the paint, they (like the instructor) just loved it! You might want to try something wild yourself? Thank you for sharing all of these supplies and your chummy chatter! Have a lovely day!
Great video Gem and very kind of upcrate. I wonder if they have been extra generous as it's for charity and your un boxing on UA-cam. I had the advent Christmas box last year it contained both good and not so good supplies.🙂 overall it was worth the money.
Never had upcrate before, so after seeing your video I got tempted….. needless to say I visited their site, subscribed to their emails and got a 15% discount code, therefore I went on to purchase 😂. Fingers crossed I get a good box as well
I'm so tempted to get this. 😅 For the Bristol boards & the Artspaze papers alone this is too tempting. Do I need it? No. Am I responsible with money? Rarely. 😅😅 Lefranc & Bourgeois is a great brand. I've used their stuff for decades. The Deco paints are 4.60 € a bottle here the last time I checked so bang on what you estimated. The black hollow brush belongs to a set that comes with Turner Acrylic Gouache. Great little brushes, though probably cheap. Jackson's sells (or at least sold) that set.
I own a bottle of Frisk masking fluid and found it worked quite well. I don't remember if it leaves colour behind, though.I haven't used it in a while. 😅
I honestly didn't have a good feeling about this box, but it's actually not so bad. I personally won't get it, because it's just not in my budget to spend almost 100 euro on random art stuff I probably won't ever use. But I'm sure it's great for people who'd like to try out different media :) Thanks for the unboxing, Gem
I own quite a few da Vinci Nova brushes for watercolouring and I really enjoy using them. The thing with my blue coloured masking fluid is that it leaves residue of blue pigment on my paper... This is quite a large box, but so much acrylic paint! 😅
Which brand of masking fluid are you using, blackrose? It'd be useful to know. I found that it happened with the Pebeo, and sent it back, though I've seen some ArtTubers using it quite happily. Thanks! 😊
I've tried the Pebeo pen, that does leave the blue marks, but the Schmincke one also did. Not sure if it's the blue pigment, or if it depends on the paper you're using. But I've had that issue with my good paper, too
@@blackrose538 Thanks! I used the Pebeo on Fabriano and Saunders Waterford with the same result. 😞I haven't tried the Schmincke. Nice box. Yeah, it would do well to buy the x-mas box and no subscription. I own some lefranc gouache. It's a good brand. I've got a set of flashes vinyl acrylic in my saved for later on Amazon. Thanks for the unboxing.
Please say you’ll be reacting to the latest Upcrate subscription box too - it’s awful! I’m so disappointed and feel like I’ve wasted my money. Not an art box, more like a cheap craft one… lots of duplicates from previous boxes and just an advert for a specific brand. Such a shame as this haul looks great

Wow, that's a seriously impressive set of stuff, especially for people who don't already have a big collection of art supplies.
I don't think I will ever subscribe to any art box but this Christmas one looks to be well worth it! Tempting! Thanks for sharing!
These boxes would be such great surprises for my granddaughter
Pleasantly surprised. 😊

Wow this box definitely had lots of value and would be a joy to receive.
Oh Gem! I honestly gasped out loud at the box of the W&N acrylics! This is such a lovely range of products. Lots of happy arting for you 🫶
Nice

I LOVE THIS BOX!! I might aswell buy it tomorrow, as its my birthday on the 2nd of december!
That charcoal bundle was last years January box 😂 why i remember that so specifically, i've no clue.
