  • One year on from the illegal felling of the iconic tree at Sycamore Gap, we’re reflecting on its legacy and sharing plans for how hope will prevail in the face of tragedy.
Over the last year, the partnership jointly led by the National Trust and Northumberland National Park Authority and Historic England have been working together with other partners to find inspiring ways to ensure the legacy of this iconic tree lives on.
Through the ‘Trees of Hope’ initiative, 49 saplings - one to represent each foot of the height that the tree was at the time of felling, will be gifted to communities around the UK. We're inviting applications from individuals and groups who would like to plant a tree in a publicly accessible space to benefit their communities. For more information and to apply visit: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/TreesOfHope
We’d like to thank all those who have reached out and shown support after the tree was felled one year ago. It has shown the importance of nature in our lives.

It's tragic but when you think of the thousands of veteran trees felled legally for new roads or more housing estates all in the so called name of progress there is so much more vigilance needed by all of us.

What a lovely tribute to Tina, and a beautiful reflection from her mum. So much goodness coming from the loss of the Sycamore Gap helps heal our hearts. Thanks National Trust!
