    • @Iisakki3000
      @Iisakki3000 2 місяці тому +10

      Absolutely. I absolutely hated the inconsistent layer lines back when my ender 3 was still stock. After modding/fixing the z-axis to be quite literally perfect, I can print layers as thick as 0.40mm and the layer lines still look really nice. I've had friends ask if I printed a part with 0.10 layers when it was actually 0.20, because the lines just look so so much better when it's consistent.

      One thing to do with this is make a version that’s sized for the ProMax with a large case and then have different bezels that snap on for different phone and case sizes. Then you don’t even need to reprint the body when the phone is upgraded. Just make a new bezel for the new phone.

    I think he should create an iPhone mag-safe-compatible case, so your iPhone doesn't stay caseless, or you needing to remove and attach a case every single time you want to take your iPhone in/out. And to hide the magsafe - have some "curtain" that moves out of the way when the iPhone is inserted and moves back in when it's taken out.

    I agree that the initial video was amazing. Also, one of the viewers did a video describing the “parameterized” version of a Fusion 360 file. She spent a GREAT DEAL of time reverse engineering the design and backing into the stored dimensions. Unfortunately, this is not a parameterized design. It’s made up of a group of literal dimensions. And, since the design has several “Scale” features, the dimensions you enter get changed in the course of the design. If the file had User parameters like PhoneWidth, PhoneHieght, PhoneDepth, ButtonHeight, CaseThickness, it would allow infinite modification. I started working with it to get it to print with my iPhone 15 Pro with a case, but when I replaced the literal dimensions with my parameterized values and functions, I ended up breaking one of the scale features. I’m not taking anything away from the original author or the Fusions 360 volunteer, just sharing my experience.

    I agree with 99% of the love of the design... my 1% that differs is that this design does NOT take into account that most iPhone customers have a case on their phone... almost no one walks around with a naked iPhone... so, in this design you have to take your case on and off? That is a hard stop for me and I am sure most others out there. To make this design 100% positive, it needs to address this fact, and allow cased iPhones the same ease of use.

    • @kalletaimi5094
      @kalletaimi5094 2 місяці тому

      I think that the biggest issue with designing it to accept the phone with the case, is the fact that there are so many different cases. Even though they look the same, dimensions can be just slightly off and then it won't fit. Making it parametric could be the way forward, so that the user could easily edit the dimensions

    I like this design except for one thing. Fast wireless charging emits a lot of heat. You need to dissipate the heat. So vent holes are a must. Maybe they need to add holes for small copper tubing to passively attract the heat a bit more and send it through ventilation holes on the top.
    The design is also big enough to accommodate a slim fan. Add some feet to the bottom and direct air flow to the back of the phone and have the vent holes for upward air exhaust.
    Does this over-complicate the design? Probably, but you pretty much have to unless you make this more of an open air design to their doesn’t need to be active airflow

The airpods can charge on the large magsafe, so the priority for the tiny watch chargers in my house is for watch, first. I don't have a spare $40 for just airpod charger, and if I did, I'd make sure to have a stand that can take both anyways. Brooo, you’re totally missing two major defects here. So, I’ve got a $1,200 phone and I’m using a $10 Temu case, which is MagSafe. The thing is, I shouldn't have to take off my case just to stick it to the dock, that push thing right there is a kind of scuffed for the 1,200$ - that’s a huge issue, man!
    Also, the bottom speakers are getting covered up. Can you check if the alarm sound even plays properly when the phone is docked? These are two big problems for consumers, and I don’t get how you just missed them, bro. #Engineer @ #Master!

    I printed it and I would change the fitting of the MagSafe. It’s too loose. There should be a springy section on the clamping ring holding the MagSafe.

    Problem with this thing is that if you have a phone case it won't fit into the dock anymore and it's unfeasible to take your phone out of its case everytime you wanna dock it

    It probably wouldnt be that hard to mod it to your case. Its just that every case is different and needs the care and attention to make it for the case proper. Just make sure if you remix it to pay it forward and upload the resut so anyone with your case can have it too, good stewardship.

    It is almost perfect but it violates Rahms design rule "Good design is as little design as possible"
    I don't like the push button, the version without is much better.

    nah gonna have to disagree and say most people hate layer lines and 3d printed layer lines are pretty cheap feeling no matter what
    the difference wit h grain in wood is that it can feel very smooth to the point where you dont feel the grain at all

    The design is interesting but of very limited use because it cannot accommodate phone cases, which do not have uniform size, and it can only be used for one size of phone. E.g., it can't work for an iphone pro and an iphone pro max. The design could be modified by making the opening large enough to accomodate phones of varying sizes (including their cases), and by supporting the phone solely by the magsafe charger. The empty space around the phone be somewhat disguised by using black filament as the background.

    I don't understand these people and their adversity to designing phone docks that don't work with cases.

    It's a nice design but the big flaw is that everyone uses phone cases and they're all sorts of sizes and iPhones have multiple sizes too. If you were going to sell it then you would have to at least create one for each size phone and possibly another of each that leaves room for cases vs no case if you want it to fit well on all combinations.

    Do people really don’t use phone cases or I’m too poor as a consumer… why not mention make the dock variant with a bigger hole to fit phone with a case. not look as nice but a very big group of target audience.

    That was part of my question though, How would anyone that has a case use this thing!?
    It wouldn't fit!
