Finding the best basic training hairstyles for woman in 2019 can be a bit challenging. The rules and regulations to hair in the army have changed quite a bit in the last few years compared to when I joined the military 12 year ago.
In basic training you dont have a lot of time to fuss with your hair in the morning and the easier/faster you can get your hair done in the mornings, the better it will be for you and your platoon.
In this video I go over what my suggestions are for the best hairstyles for woman in basic training to include all nationalities, not just woman of color. For my African American females that are going to basic training I also have specific best hairstyles for you as well.
Be careful because there are whats considered "unauthorized hairstyles in the military" and you dont want to fall into this category. All of my hairstyles are authorized styles for the military in 2019.

dont shave too low though. get with your recruiter on the proper length for short hair.
i'm doing the same, the shortest it can be is a 1/4 of an inch xD

I already decided I’m just gonna keep letting my new growth come in until then and chop all my relaxed hair off. Going back natural and having it short will be the easiest thing. Plus I won’t need brushes, gel, hair ties or pins etc. I don’t necessarily want to go back to being natural but after basic and AIT I’ll definitely have enough length for me to relax it again and go back to a short sleek pixie cut

How long do you get to do your hair in basic training? I can do mine in 10 minutes. And will you be allowed a spray bottle in basic? For water. I have a hard time doing a bun with dry hair.
I kinda wanna shave my head cause my hair is so annoying, it gets tangled and so frizzy due to damage but I'm scared because I don't want to regret it 😂
Update: I got a pixie cut, and planning to shave the sides just a tad to make it even more manageable. :)
Just cut it short, you dont have to shave it. Thats extreme.
Will a low fade be ok for a female
I have scarring alopecia so I keep a bald cut. My hair is basically bald in certain areas and won’t grow back due to scarring that I can’t control. So my question is , is it okay for me to have a bald head?

I ship out January 21,2020 to Ft Jackson. My hair is 4c blow drying is hassle and my hair is thick so a bun is a no go. I wanted to get 1/2 in width midback braids for basic. What do yall think?

I have 3c LONG hair and I’m thinking just do low bun but my baby hairs are REBELLIOUS and for basic i hear they don’t have the best gel so will I get in trouble if I got baby hairs with my low bun?
You can bring your own gel. You are going to want everything tucked away.
Do you think I could pass with the sides shaved and the top braided back?
I usually do micro twists on my natural hair, and my shrinkage makes them shrink like just at my neck so would it be okay to keep twists in ? I could pull them in a bun too

Thinking about shaving my head once I enlist so I don't have to deal with putting my hair up into a bun all the time. Am I allowed to bring an eletric trimmer to Basic so I can keep my hair trimmed down?

No you cannot buy new hair. If your hair looks "unkept" they can make you do something to it.

Just in case I can not find a braider in my platoon. I can do flat twists alright.
flat twists are fine you'll probably jsut have to redo them more often because I dont think they hold up as along as braids. They get fuzzy fast with the changing of the headgear all day.
What about for a white female whos hair is growing out from a pixie cut with longer hair on the sides? Roughly my hair is all the same length now. I leave for Jackson in October and am struggling with the in between grow out phase
How much time will I have to do my hair on weekends? And can I bring an oil with me?

I’m natural and I really don’t wanna pay for braids but it’s hard to find a style cause I shaved the back of my head but my hair isn’t super short

Been thinking of just cutting my hair short when i get to basic if i still cant figure out how to make like a nice hair bun.
Good luck! You will get lots of practice on the bun thing. You dont have to cut it if you done want.
I’m enlisting in the marines soon and I have very short buzzed hair, I read that regulation requires hair no shorter than 1/4 inch for females, am I not allowed to have a fade or buzzed hair? I think it’s the easiest so is that a rule that is lowkey ignored?
You can have it faded on the sides but it still has to be at least 1/4th inch. A lot of times in boot camp they are very strict on the rules and not so much once you get out of training status and get to your duty assignment but again I do not know the rules for the Marine. They may be more strict so I would at least be within the regulation to be safe.
Would it be wise to get starter locs on short hair 4 months before going
Those of you concerned about her saying when she had to wake up it was 05: 00 which is just 5 am not what it sounded like 00: 05 which is 12:05 am

You wont be able to maintain the cut during training. It will grow out so keep that in mind.
I have layered curly hair that’s damaged and I’m leaving to basic training next week , should I cut my hair 4 inch from scalp all around and let it grow out . Because i love my hair rn but it’ll be easier for me to do this and hopefully get healthier hair when it grows out

I would not recommend box braids for basic training.
You didn’t speak on short 4c hair or what’s your opinion on micro braids. I was thinking about having my hair micro braid

When getting braids is it ok to have braids with a side part instead of straight back? I've been growing my pixie out and it's at a length I can possibly get braids done and due to some balding I'd like to do the side part to cover it a little bit also,, can I have my sides and the lower back lined up? Those parts are not long enough for braiding.

Ive always had really short hair for a female, like buzzed maybe half inch, is that acceptable? I see alot of people thinking women with buzzed hair are acting hard, but i just prefer it that way, more hygienic and no maintenance. I’m planning on joining the military when I’m out of high school which is next year, and I had to grow out my undercut the past few months since my family thought we weren’t allowed to have one. Are we allowed to have an undercut with the regulation of 1/4 inch?

I would not get it cut before you go. There will be no way to maintain a tapered cut through basic training or AIT for females

None on your neck, face or above the wrist (hands). Marines are even stricter so I believe you cant even have any on your arms period.
@@kaydee49Our military in Trinidad and Tobago (caribbean) it's the same. You could only have it on your chest. Females are not allowed to have any below their knees, because they'll be wearing skirts sometimes. In the Coast Guard, it could be visible.
So the regulation says women are not allowed to cut their hair less than one inch from the scalp. I see so many woman not adhere to this. Has this changed? I ask because I want to cut my hair, and 1 inch all around is a difficult length to manage.
Just go with the regs to be safe. People do their own thing but doesnt make it right.

Can I just leave my hair in the cornrows for the whole 8 weeks without taking them down? I could just wash them once a week and be good right? I've never had braids but I'm not going to count on anyone else to deal with my hair I want to only rely on myself.

I am at AIT right now and my drill Sergeant will not allow me to braid my short locs ,she said I can't have both locs and cornrow.Now I Don't know what to do.
Can you pull them back into a pony tail ant secure them with bobby pins. The regulation does say you cannot have 2 hairstyles in one so I guess thats what she is enforcing.

You can keep it short. And when the males go get haircuts you would be allowed to get a haircut as well.
