Awesome job Holt! I’m pretty sure I just learned more from you in five minutes and 30 seconds than I did in a whole semester of my forestry fire class that I took back in 2001. Thank you very much.

Very very interesting Holt!! Missed your update yesterday, had Drs appts, not great news. Hope this fire season sees much fewer if any outbreaks. Thanks... Your next vid is in the line-up for this morning. 👍

Sorry to hear your doctors visit didn't bring good news. Hoping all is well in the future. I'm crossing my fingers for a better fire season as well. Still pretty low on winter rainfall, so I'm pulling for a rainy March.

I was afraid to watch, PTSD. Enjoy ed learning again, as those were terms often used last fall.

+HoltHanleyWeather *One significant hazard of fire is rekindle, where and when a smolder gets wind-fanned;* one recent example is the Tunnel Fire of 1991, where a supposedly-extinguished trash burn was re-lit in the Diablo Winds, resulting in destruction of numerous houses.

Thanks, that's a great reminder to cover that in later videos. I've even heard of one case where a fire was believed to be completely out, and then months later, a tree that was slowly burning from the inside reignited into a major blaze.

@@HoltHanley Have any predictions? I think it is going to be as bad as last year if not worse. Most of CA is only at 50% of normal rainfall and it has pretty much stopped raining for the winter.

As of right now, things aren't looking too encouraging, but at least the two week climate forecast changed to have a higher probability of rain for CA. I'd be surprised if we can get enough to make up for the current deficits, but hopefully we do. And unfortunately the three month forecast is still looking dry, so that could be concerning as well. On the bright side, the severity of that lightning storm that kicked off a lot of those big fires last year seems to be a very rare event, so as long as that doesn't happen I'm thinking it shouldn't be as bad.
Great link btw. I might have to use that in future forecast videos.
