DA2 is honestly the best DA. It is Not really a good game - the combat is quite messy, locations uninteresting and overly reused, but what a Story it has. DA2 is the worst dragon age Game, but it has the best dragon age Spirit, it has the best party dynamics, friendships, banter and rivalries. The main story tragedy of main character is also incredibly very well done, and makes Hawke their own character, instead of a blank self-insert like it is usually the case with custom characters in RPGs. 12/10, Bad Game, Incredible buddy-tragedy-drama-comedy, Varric is the best narrator ever, Best Dragon Age) Thank you for covering the game)
Glad you loved Dragon Age 2. I agree that it has a great story. I was also really engaged with how Hawke's story went, but I guess I just like larger settings and stories that include a larger world.
@@valmayorbruh completely understandable, and to be fair, DA2 is without a doubt, the odd one out of other DAs in terms of scope and scale of the story
@@valmayorbruh I didn't own a flashdrive back then so I would just play until my timer ran out and play the game again from the start when I manage to come back :(
There are a ton of objective flaws with this game, but subjectively its one of my all-time faves, haha, I loved the companions and the overall story. It was the first longer narrative game i actually finished, it worked really well as an entry point for me.
While this one isn't my favorite in the franchise, I have to say that the companions were still well-made. I personally gained more appreciation for the game after finishing DA: Inquisition
carver lives if you play a mage and bethany can be saved from the deep roads if you bring anders and do what anders tells you to do and I think if you played dragon age 2 one time and only one time is not a good idea because in one playthrough you can miss a lot of staff or do lots of quests and not know you had more choices then you though if you do one playthrough and one only will not know bethany or carver can walk out of the deep roads alive
That's the beauty of these kinds of games. Lots of choices steer you in different directions in the story. I read somewhere that Anders makes Bethany a Grey Warden to save her life? If that happened in my playthrough that would've been awesome. Sadly, my overall feeling playing the game to its end was that I was good with one playthrough. Being stuck in Kirkwall and seeing the same places over and over again was just a deal breaker for me.
I played DA2 twice when it was first released. The second time was purely to test whether it really was as mediocre as I first thought, or whether it would seem better now that I knew what kind of game it was. If anything, I found the second playthrough even more underwhelming than the first. Everything you mentioned was absolutely right. The biggest disappointment, though, was being stuck in one city for the entire game. After DA:O in which we were given an entire world to explore, with all its different races and cultures, to be confined to Kirkwall was a huge let-down. Perhaps it could have worked if BW had taken the time to flesh out Kirkwall more, but everything felt unfinished and rushed (which it probably was). One of the few games I actually traded in while it was still new.
After becoming so invested in the world of Thedas after the first game, it was a real bummer that the second game only had Kirkwall to explore. It is what it is, I guess. I'm still kind of impressed they were able to put together a cohesive story in such a short time though. I'm playing through Inquisition now and the return to a larger world with a more profound threat really got me back into the franchise. Hoping they do good with the upcoming fourth installment.
@@valmayorbruh Cool. I don't know how far through Inquisition you are, so this may be redundant advice, but my one tip would be, don't feel you have to do everything in the Hinterlands before moving on to another area. You can really get bogged down there. Go off to other areas, and return to the Hinterlands every now and again to do a bit more. There's always more to do there!
@@davida.j.berner776 Well.... thanks for the advice, but I think it's too late for that haha! I'm at the part where you choose between the Templars and the Mages for help.
Not as bad as made out, but the Qunari was the best section of it all via strong writing in comparison to dao. Ill say this though, da2 had pretty fun combat and went in a truly whoah wtf! Direction towards the end. I remember literally mouthing wtf when that chick pulled out that lyrium sword!😂

Favorite Dragon Age game in terms of story and companions, but i can't get myself to play it another time because of the reused caves / dungeons. I'm fine with it if it was the same cave from the same entrance but you will find caves with completely identical layouts different places in the world which just results in you walking through the same dungeon far too many times. In terms of gameplay / skill trees / party building i don't have any favorits all 3 games are pretty much the same for me. Honestly wish this game would get a remake, but it would basically have to be a whole new game with only the story, companions and setting carrying over.

Great video as always! Remembered playing this game at an Internet Cafe before, loved it!

I forgot how much I hated the wave enemies and how they'd nearly always spawn in behind you to gank your softer allies.
Straight up felt like an arcade minigame to be honest.
As an avid Dragon Age fan I will say each game has it's merits, and it's flaws and all are worth it...
