I got diagnosed about a week ago and just started rewatching Psych today. It's so obvious Shawn's got ADHD. I've always related to him and now I know why.
I used to think ADHD was some psycho-babble crap, then my sister told me I have it, and I reviewed the symptoms carefully, and now this came up, and I always felt similar to Shawn, couldn't hold a job for long, hate paperwork, usually seeking stimuli, and I find it harder to focus on something for a long time, especially if I don't care about it, and I thought that was everyone else too, but it turns out that's not the case. I find it harder to focus than others unless I get into hyperfocus.
ADHD and ADD are the same thing. The official diagnosis [after 1987] is ADHD even if you aren't hyperactive. ADHD-Inattentive is what used to be just ADD. Confusing? Perhaps. Just sharing :)
nah mate it's the same thing. 1. ADHD as a diagnosis also includes what many people call ADD (the inattentive type) 2. it depends on the situation, i have what you would describe as ADD but trust me i can be hyperactive as fuck
@@themimsy t-that's what i said? ADHD is an umbrella term for both .. smh edit: also i never claimed them to BE the same, i claimed them to have the same diagnosing term
These are some of the more stereotypical examples but as someone with adhd, and now that I’m older and have a better understanding i rewatched specifically to analyze Shawn’s adhd and it’s amazing how many subtle and nuanced adhd characteristics Shawn has. I don’t know if it was intentional or not but you can find so many examples of more prevalent but lesser known adhd characteristics that are depicted perfectly outside of the stereotypical “ooo shiny thing” cliche that makes up 95% of adhd representation in media.

you get a thought in your head and you have to say it out loud, people are like whey are you always touching things and describing things and picking them up and playing with them? SO I DON'T EAT THEM JEREMY!
ADD _is_ ADHD, or at least a form of it. ADHD Inattentive is what most people refer to as ADD, it means you aren't necessarily hyper and abruptive all the time but you exhibit most other symptoms like an inability to focus or stay organized, have a selective memory, and typically develop a problem with authority (that last part varies, but it's been noted), among other things. But yeah, it's likely Shawn has ADHD, he sorta exhibits a ton of the symptoms of someone with combined ADHD tho
@@niftythegoblin welp, I tick all the boxes heres, minus the hyper/abruptive part. I do have a problem with authority, especially supervisors and bosses.
You missed the baseball episode where Shawn got amphetamines in his system. My roommate and I just watched that and I had her go back several times so I could see it again!! It was entirely too accurate! She was like, “but you’re not like that.” “You didn’t see me on 30 mg of immediate release Adderall. That’s why the girls at work used to tease that I worked so fast and flitted around like a butterfly so annoyingly because I was heavily medicated.” “But you’re on the immediate release now too because of the Adderall shortage.” “I’m on 20 mg twice a day because of the shortage. Back then I was on 30 mg once a day. I’d have the jitters and a sugar crash in the morning when my medication kicked in which is what got me hooked on Mt Dew. Then I’d get home from work and speed crash from the day. 20 mg twice a day gives me less jitters and I’m still able to resist the urge for Mt Dew and I don’t crash as bad after work…but the extended release would still be better I think. If you want Animal put me on 30 ml immediate release. If you want Kermit, put me on extended release. Any muppet in between, put me on 20 mg immediate release. Any member of Electric Mayhem, take me off the Adderall entirely.”
I mean the second one is literally the same movie as the first but slightly different, making it more annoying than the first one. Which is actually really good and underrated.
Now that i finally got diagnosed after being misdiagnosed as bipolar (extremely common for AFAB adhders, we also get misdiagnosed as bpd too due to trauma from masking as autistic) Now i understand why I heavily resonate with shawn Spencer's foolishness, I'm literally him with shiny stuff, old stuff and secret stuff!! Gram sighs heavily whenever i ask if I'm getting her old antique furnitures from her great grandma, ans other stuff from her grandma LMFAO aint nobody gonna appreciate the stuff!! I will! Because i appreciate the history! I will literally google lens her furniture and jump in thr rabbit hole. I was already in the history of film rabbit hole this afternoon 💀 I'm on 1940s era history of film! Just finished 1930s! Hes so right about the old stuff! 😂 Gram said I'm getting her stuff when she goes cuz all her kids and grandkids are going to sell them, everything, including the jewelries from great great grandma and pawpaw tom and allen!!!! They just want the money!!!!! Losers! All of them!
these clips are each overt examples of the list of behavioral symptoms that come up first thing when you google ADHD symptoms?? literally everyone i know with adhd who watches psych sees themself intensely in shawn
I agree, while I have met people with ADHD like this for me personally it's been different. I used to be on a really high ADHD medication. For me its more like when I do something I have to put all my attention on it. I do this thing call hyperfocusing where that some people with ADHD do. Basically I focus so mush on one thing that everything else disappears. I have trouble talking and working at the same time. I've done things lile written down what I was say to someone on accident. It's more like if you give me one two things to do I'll forget about the first thing. Bur yes there are a few things I see Spencer do that I relate with, it's just that everyone's experience is different. Anyway I've gotten way better at dealing with my ADHD although really I should still be on medication. I wasn't that I stopped on purpose, in middle school I ran out one day and everyone just kinda collectively forgot about it. Idk maybe when I go to college I'll start taking it again. Anyway too much information, just like in real life I like to ramble in messages to the point where they loose all meaning and have nothing to do with what I'm trying to say. In that aspect I relate to shawn a lot.
I believe it is stated that he has ADD. In terms of diagnosis its called ADHD- predominately inattentive type. No every person with ADHD/ADD is the same and people still have varying personalities and traits. Especially because a large majority of people grow out of it of have less severe cases/symptoms as they grow older.
@@sorrajade8759 Less "grow out of it" more "figure out a way to control it". When my brother and I are talking together, no one else in the family can follow the conversation (also, genius IQs with ADD means we are conversational at such a broad number of subjects that most people just can't be expected to be knowledgeable at it all). But yeah, in the video where Gus gets him to go on the ferry to the volunteer clean up when he had said "no", definitely something that has happened to me.

Makes me wonder if the actor actually has adhd, because hollywood does adhd wrong all the time. Either way, he is super talented.
Could you share some details? I’m really curious now

Shawn is so beautifully and painfully ADHD that if there is a person that doesn’t believe it or hasn’t noticed, they might quite possibly be stupid 😂
