And how deep he was.
I remember when this album came out, I was in school in West Africa. Almost 30 years later, this song still give me the chills ! The whole album is haunting. There will never be another 2Pac !
"Penitentiaries is packed with promise makers, never realize the precious time that bitch n--gas is wasting..." lmao, I remember being a new teenager when I heard that line, and how he removed all the perceived coolness from his stints in jail in 2 lines. Prison dudes thought Pac was one of them, and he basically reported to the world that the dudes he met inside were bumss
I still remember when I bought Makaveli from a street hawker in November of '96. I couldn't believe it was an actual new 2Pac album. The guy struggled to convince me at first. Remember we were all still reeling from Pac's demise. When I got home, it was goosebumps when "Hail Mary" came on. It's still haunting in '24🥶🥶🥶
In my opinion, what separated Pac from the rest was the passion he put into his craft. Not only did you hear his songs, he made you feel them with his blend of story telling and passion.
His passion gets overplayed. I think the real reason Pac is able to resonate with so many people on a deep and profound level is that he tells their life stories. Pac is a poet. That is what is underplayed about him. His passion is real, but his stories are vignettes or depictions of real life events that many people in the struggle have went through. He made it cool to be vulnerable. Particularly, as a BM, where the cool, steely, stoic poise gets used as a shield, unnecessarily sometimes.
@@KtotheG that is laughable saying his passion is over played. You could say most song writers are poets, so what is so special about that, the industry is full of them. I'll give you the story telling and exemplifying his vulnerability as a black man. Pacs delivery is what brings it all home and makes people listen and feel what he is saying. That delivery is smothered in his passion that exudes on every song.
@@RealMcCoy0205 It is overplayed, because Pac was more than just a passionate rapper, but that's the only thing people mention when they talk about him. And really, a lot of rappers are passionate, but they don't get talked about as much as Pac. So there is something more there.
@@KtotheG none of them are on his level when it comes to expressing his passion and making people feel what he is saying. @@Secularexpansion9 Yes and no, 2pac was the master at double entendre, "When they turn out the lights, I'll be there in the dark, thuggin eternal through my heart" the key word here is "eternal" When they turn out the lights (Even if they kill me), I'll be there in the dark. (where no one can see me), thuggin eternal through my heart. (i'll be here forever).
This is one of the best songs ever made in rap music.

Straight out of Compton has introduced me to this generation of raw powerful rap. We need more stuff like this to educate my generation on this fucking beastly era of music
Rap started with sugar hill gang, then it phased to gangsta rap with nwa cypress hill etc , it peaked with biggie nd pac, now it’s gone back to the fun melodic way it used to be, but the people rapping are not doing it for the love, well not most of them anyway, some stand out, juice Kendrick Lamar etc.
Would love to have you give my album from last year a go - as well as everyone else here obviously
all this rap is crap
MF doom, mos def,Big L,GZA,Biz Markie-(OG dababy XD) easy E,Big Pun,Jedi mind tricks,Redman,""SLICK RICK"", Special Ed,Vinnie Paz,Gang Starr, and Masterp among many many more
