    Do the kerosene (paraffin) fumes not smell a bit in the house? I have the pre 1961 Tilley storm lantern and that certainly does.
    We have a couple of oil lamps that burn lamp oil which has no odour.

    It's cool to see one of the non 'lantern' models, makes you glad for the light switch
    Us yanks have the old Coleman gasoline lanterns, similar procedure without the preheat. Have to admit the smell of kerosene is a lot more pleasant than pump gas

    If you pre-heat for more longtime, can you use cooking oil like sunflower one, too?

    Lovely lamp you have there..
    Regarding the lighting - I would have my paraffin away and the lid on the meths before i struck a match..
