Nah I disagree on the "Drake took 3 weeks" thing. First of all, Drake was on tour, and he had to respond to like 8 different people. Second, kendrick initiated this round! As a big time Kdot fan who is fully capable of being objective, he's really done himself a disservice by delaying. Timing usually doesn't matter but two things matter in this specific situation:
1) He initiated, he should've been ready to go with swiftness (no pun intended) especially against someone like Drake who we know can churn out music/disses quickly
2) By not moving in a timely fashion, he's really hurt his image not by his own volition but indirectly through his insufferable superfans. I never knew Kdot fans were just as bad as other fans, and I think many others didn't know as well. By him putting these fans in a position to expose their true colors, he's garnered hate simply off the strength of his superfans that can't admit that Drake is making him look bad and is putting out solid diss tracks.
The only way he can really redeem himself in the rap beef is to not only drop one of the best disses of all time, but it has to make waves that go beyond the rap/hip hop world. That is a hard task, and the expectations never had to be that high if he dropped earlier. My only hope is that this was calculated and well-thought out, but as the days pass it seems more and more unlikely. Such a miscalculation jeopardizes perception of him as a top MC and solidifies Drake as the GOAT of his gen.
I have this same exact opinion.
I think Kendrick is a better ARTIST, but Drake is clearly showing his superiority as a BATTLE RAPPER so far. Battle rapping is a whole different genre completely from regular Hip-Hop/Rap.
Kendrick fans are absolutely being delusional and ultra biased here. Drake had many valid reasons to take his time in the response and there's proof to support it even further. Touring, J Cole taking the lead first, and taking time to dissect the full Future and Metro album so he doesn't respond prematurely.
Drake is showing his intelligence and tactical mindset here and people need to give him props.
By nature of beefs and dissing, if you cast the first shot, you are the one on the clock to respond quicker. Your opponent has more leeway because they're typically caught off guard and need to get the rebuttal together. If you take the first shot, you need to make sure you have another bullet in that magazine of your semi-automatic firearm to keep the suppression going.
And let's be real here as Kendrick lovers....he is not battle tested period. He never responded to the people who came after him in Control period, but people deluded themselves into thinking that was a power play instead of him not following up with the smoke he keeps projecting to the world as being full of that energy.
Drake is questioning all of that "big dog" energy and calling his bluffs. Kendrick NEEDS to respond soon because several people in the know have, apparently, heard snippets of Drake's next diss and it's apparently NASTY, and he would now be coming for blood in that.
Kendrick is indeed on the time clock. The dynamics are different now. This isn't the old school Nas/Jay-Z era where the lack of comparative technology and social media made it to where things just naturally took longer because of that. Kendrick put himself in this spot and the longer he waits, the weaker he looks. Drake is one of the biggest names in this industry, so Kendrick doesn't have the luxury of going ghost this time now that full attention is on him, unlike with Control where he could skate by artists with lesser fame than Drake.
I wouldn't say Kendrick is "scared," but honestly I don't know on that. I DO think he was definitely caught off-guard by Drake's aggressiveness and levels of pettiness though lol. Kendrick has been claiming the crown all this time... it's time to back it up. No excuses when you've been implying you had secret disses for years now. Frankly, I don't even think there's much to pull an "Ether" level diss on Drake anymore as Pusha T already did it. Kendrick is in a hard spot now and needs to really shock us to even it out, but Drake is absolutely winning this so far. The Kendrick bias is almost cult level though, so we're going to keep hearing excuses unless Kendrick surprises us.
I hope Kendrick does surprise us so we can have a true fight here though.

Time frames for dropping diss tracks back then compared to now isn't really a fair comparison. Back in the days of Ether and Takeover, they didn't have social media and digital streaming to just drop tracks out of nowhere. They had to handle a whole process of physical distribution and sales, and get them out to radio stations, TV networks, etc. Obviously, they're just going to wait for album time. i.e. The Blueprint with Takeover, and then Stillmatic with Ether (on Hov's birthday too lol).
Nowadays, Drizzy can just drop A.I. verses featuring 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted on his IG page. It's a different world; the internet age has ultimately killed everyone's attention span.
