loved this video and to see how enthusiastic you are! Doing the JMT this summer for the first time and might record it because of your fun video! thanks for creating!
Love love the music and cinematography. Soothing - eases me into the morning. Calming in the evening. Wish you had more videos. I imagine you'll rise quickly with more content. Reminds me of Adventure Archives or Homemade Wanderlust. Please more content? Vicarious living. Somewhat . . .
Wow, that is quite the compliment! Might be the spark I need to create some more. Teaching consumes me. I love it, but I need to make room for other passions in my life.
Absolutely beautiful, and I love your mixture of scenes with scenery, hiking with scenery and commentary. I'm going to need to watch it again to take it all in. Well done Boogie 🤙
I did the JMT in 2019 and we went NOBO so it is odd to watch everything in reverse, like you going up the Golden Staircase instead of down it like we did. Great video man! Isn't that the greatest trail, so beautiful and challenging.
Thank you for sharing your journey. I heard about you from my sister, Renee Alaniz. Your notes and encouragement helped Ryan & Kate along the trail. Beautiful video.
Mr. Tran - Thank you so much for taking the time to film your awesome journey!! You made a wonderful impression on my son (Greg Alaniz, his wife, Renee and their children - Kate & Ryan) and his family - maybe one day I will be priviledged to meet you too! It was so thoughtful of you to leave little signs and messages along the trail for the kids!! I'm glad that I'm witnessing the JMT up close and personal at this date instead of before they left on their adventure - some areas look really scary!! I'm so thankful that all of you made it out safely and I know that the lives of my kids will be forever changed - not only for the challenges they faced living in the wilderness, but also in meeting such a kind and wonderful person!!!
Thank you, Pat. The best people come out to the wilderness and the wilderness brings out the best in us. Glad to have met a wonderful family. I hope to connect with them again and meet you all as well. Our world is small!
I hiked the JMT in 2018. I had that exact same feeling of "I'm not sick of this yet, I could keep going." I ended up thru hiking the Appalachian Trail last year. The trail seems to bring out the best in people, or maybe it brings out the best people. Either way I wouldn't trade it for anything. I wish you many other great adventures.
22:15 so beautiful 😍 watching the whole journey, I just "Wow wow wow"... I love this! When reaching the end, dk why the tears fill in my eyes, amazingly amazing!
Loved this video! Moreover, I love you attitude. What you said around the 10:45 mark. Your sincerity really made me feel your words, thank you for sharing your experience from your heart.
@@trumpettran pretty short list, just...sand-bubbling spring, trekking pole handle snack, emotional honesty about the endearing people you meet on the trail, sketchy water hole before Virginia Lake, Red’s Meadow is good but VVR is the happiest place on earth (I experienced this firsthand last August), tropical colors of Wanda Lake, trail onions before Golden Staircase, rusty tools by Donald Downs plaque, seeing headlamps atop Whitney from a distance!
this comment section is 1. people who actually want to see the video or 2. mr tran's students hey mr tran looking forward to jazz band today edit: this actually is so cool. glad you had a good experience
Great video! I enjoyed it while walking on my treadmill, haha. I hiked Tuolumne Meadows to Red's in August '20. Hopefully someday I will be able to complete the entire trail. It is stunning around every turn!
Such a cool video about your journey Michael! It is very uplifting. I hope to one day soon "In the near future" do the JMT myself. I totally agree with your emotions throughout the video. The outdoor community is always so happy and positive. No matter where you go, there is always joy to be had. It's tough for me to find a "hiking buddy" so I am usually just Lone Wolfing around the Los Angeles National Forest and Yosemite.
Thank you! There were a couple zombies out there but I suppose the wilderness bring out the best in us, and the best of us head for the wilderness! If I could give you any tips Alex, is just start it, even solo! You'll run into trail fam every single day!
Nice video. Felt the same as you did about finishing and the meaning of it all. The real question is, when will you hike it again? For me it was 2 years later (2016, 2018)-I took a break by hiking the High Sierra Trail in between ;) Finally, with social media today, it’s easier to stay in touch then ever. I always have a pen and a piece of paper in my pocket to take down a contact. I’ve kept in touch with a bunch of folks over the years. And who knows? You can reconnect later in life during your travels. The trail has this innately ephemeral and dream like quality that makes the experience that much more meaningful and, yes, nostalgic.
Awesome video! I actually did my JMT the exact same time frame as you! (July 21-August 5 2020) however, I went the other way starting from Whitney. Must've gone right by you!
Great video! I love your positive spirit. So many of these videos focus on the pain and suffering, when all around them is the greatest natural beauty. You get it, and I understood why when you said "Drum Corps"! Have I seen you at Indianapolis? :)
Thanks! Admittedly as we all know, thru hikes aren't always pretty views and sunshine, so I hope to show a little bit of the other side for my next video! ;)
Michael, you took the best videos of JMT. Pictures and videos are so beautiful and professional. What kind of phone or equipment did you use? I am planning to hike JMT in June 2021. So inspired by the work you’ve done. Maybe you can put another UA-cam to show us how to get the best pictures out of JMT?😀😀😀
Mainly durable surfaces with a minimum of 100 feet away from water sources or the trail. Use established campsites when available. Some rules alter a little bit based on the wilderness area you're in. Once you get a permit, it explains everything.
Mather Pass was okay because I hot it first thing in the morning. I think Donahue was actually the toughest for me, maybe because it was the first pass of the hike.

Not bad at all! They were only bad around McClure Meadows. Not a lot of snow that year. Too early to tell but looking at the snowpack currently, might be a low bug year again.
A great man doing great things with his life. I'm glad that everyone gets to see what I've seen in you all this time.

I’ve watched this several times and it’s such an honest and refreshing experience. Thank you.
Whoa, I'm quite honored. Thank you!
Great video, totally appreciate the text overlays showing what we are looking at. Makes me want to get out and do that hike!
I hope you get a chance to, Curtis!
How fantastic! Not surprised to hear you have students. Hello from Alberta 😉🇨🇦
Oh yes! I met a few teachers on the trail! It was fantastic! Hello neighbor!
Epic edit. Also mountain house is the best lol

Really enjoyed your video and your attitude in general. Wished it was higher resolution though.
Utterly beautiful video sir, thank you so much for putting it together ♥️ one of the best JMT recaps I've ever seen 🙂
Wow, there are so many good ones on here too. Thank you!
Really uplifting video, love your big heart and spirit, and thanks for sharing some items I hadn't previously seen in other JMT videos.

Oh absolutely! I'm eyeing the Colorado Trail for Summer 2021 but will definitely come back to the Sierras. It's a book worth rereading!
Thank you for this, especially the time lapse of Marie Lakes near the end of the video. Truly my favorite place of the entire trail.
It definitely was! Will have to return again!

Thanks, Akiko!
Congrats man! I finished backpacking the SOBO JMT about three days before you did. Wasn't Mather Pass brutal?
Mather Pass was okay because I hot it first thing in the morning. I think Donahue was actually the toughest for me, maybe because it was the first pass of the hike.
Hydrate or diedrate there is no middle ground
That's right!!!
Great video...what bus did you take from Lone pine to yosemite?
Took
Eastern Sierra Transit Authority from Lone Pine to Mammoth Lakes, took the YARTS from Mammoth to Yosemite Valley.
Did you start sobo? How many days worth of food did you carry?
The mosquitoes don’t look bad... or did you just not film them :)
Thankfully, it was a low snow year so not too many mosquitoes! The only time they were bad was around McClure Meadows.
Where did you park your car in Lone Pine? Was there a fee?
Great video 👍
The Dow Villa. I booked a night there for the end of my hike and they let me park it in their extra lot. I can't remember if I had to pay extra for that or not.
