Guys!! I did the math from about 23:35 ish. At the time of this video, they've been making music for ten years. Multiply that by 12, for each month, and you get 120. They've also released 6 albums in that time span, spending 18 months touring each record. Multiply 6 by 18, and you get 108. So, they've spent 108 out of 120 months, or 9 years, on tour.
I love how he is floored that they hadn't written in front of each other.. I'm completely with them, it's such an intimate personal experience and I don't think I could do it either. loI I lock myself in a room for days and write... not even a boyfriend or girlfriend has seen the process
I like this interview and I love the one you did for heartthrob, I watched like six interviews with different stations and they weren't like this. I can't wait to see what you do next
Sara's giggles towards the end, at like 32 minutes on, so cute!! She's so girlie ;) also, just excellent interview overall. He got them to open up so much! rarely do they discuss their relationships so much!!
Man this interview was amazing! I wish all interviewers could actually ask questions that T and S want to answer. If I were in this interview I would totally feel like Tegan and just sit there and watch Sara and J talk so much about so many intelligent things and just sit there like 'Yeah, hi!' I mean, they are both equally intelligent but I feel like these kind of interviews is where Sara shines and she gets to talk the most. I could watch this over and over!
personally I really like the interviewer, I have seen t and s get interviewed by some proper rude fucks, who ask irrelevant ignorant and quite rude questions. And then they get a lot of those ‘I actually I don’t care about your band im doing this as it’s my job’ kind of interviewers who ask boring questions that they have been asked so many times. And well Tegan and Sara are just so hot.. ..and intelligent and beautiful and cute and funny and thoughtful and all the wonderful things.
Jian keeps cutting them off and ignoring what they're saying! The interview is about them, not him. The idea of an interview is to give a question and let them talk and answer the way they want to. They're so clever though, they don't let him push them around, and at certain points they're even, like, passively making fun of him. Whatever, still a great interview because of how in depth Tegan and Sara (especially Sara) get into about the meaning of their album and relationships.
he's actually a great interview..and got robbed of his career when falsely accused of assault to a line up of jaded ex lovers...all charges were dropped and he ended up with the shitty end of the stick in the entire conspiracy...still waiting for you to come back Jian...some body find this man his own show
I loved how Tegan reacted to Jian's reply about marriage (19:45). Such an intelligent reply. And exactly explains how some (mostly women) feel about being pressured by society to get married cause it's some ultimate goal/destination.
I comment on this interview many times under kemplerbrave so I thought I'd comment again. Still love them and I'm a big fan. I want to play guitar with them. :) I want to buy them dinner sometime also.
I forgot that they mentioned Tom Petty in this interview and now he of course has passed away. Sad when I think of it but feel good that they admired him like many. :)
It's good that they treat their profession as a "business" because that means they are serious about putting out quality material. I admire their work ethic. Bless them. :)
@MrAndrewshepard i don't think he's humourless, he's just not as playful as the girls (maybe resides in the sarcastic waters of humour). personally, i like the guy, he makes good interviews. (and tegan and sara, of course)
I simply love them. Talented and good girls. I want to see them live which I've never had the pleasure to do yet. Soon I hope. :) I've said this a million times too. :)
I always thought Jian was a great interviewer....when this came out in 2009 and now looking again in 2020. There were few people doing these shows where a sense of banter would be welcome. A little poke and deflation in both directions made this one of their best long form interviews. It was a sad thing that he had such demons that the only possibility was a crash and burn.
@Turminak To be fair, lots of interviews you see are REAL quick because sometimes the artist has 5 or 6 more to do and so they can only be a couple of minutes long. So seeing a half hour long, indepth interview can be new/surprising in that context for some.
they seem really cool, have to admit i never heard of them until the Tiesto track and then i looked into them and recognized so many of their songs. it makes it all the better to know that they're Canadian :D
even as an artist who draws and paints and writes I CANT have people in the room when Im doing that unless its in a class and Im learning something otherwise the whole thing feels awkward.
dayummm!!! I accidentally clicked on the dislike button then clicked on the "like" button a thousand times!!!!!!!! aaaaaah! HOW COULD I DO THAT?!?! damn you mouse thingy!!!
@jjavachipfrappuccino Makes for a better interview honestly. I wouldn't say he's trying to corner them, just asking follow-up questions and focusing on interesting points that come up. It's definitely engaged and a little sharp, but it doesn't strike me as overly adversarial at all. T&S do totally come off great though. I think they probably enjoyed this more than yet another interview that only sticks to all the "standard questions" that they must have answered 5,000 times by now.
@StylinRed I agree. His introductions are unique in the world of talk shows and so well written. I think his introductions are at once casual and professional. You go Jian!
I love this clip because I love the process of songwriting and consider T&S top songwriters and very talented. They have a unique style and they are such good spirited, intellegent young women. I really admire how they come up with great tunes the way they do. God bless them. :)
Wow, it's so crazy how much more mature they seem now then even like...two years ago. This was a great interview too, it was informative and interesting and funny at the right moments. I heard them talk about a lot of topics they haven't covered in previous interviews.
I am quite surprised with how beautiful and cool these girls are. I only ever saw pics on their cd's and (not to be mean) thought they were really plain and unattractive. Seeing this I totally changed my mind. They're so pretty and really smart. I definitely will give they're music a go.
i actually liked the interviewer. he has a calming/classic sound to his voice rather than the loud shouting "hey hey hey!" most hosts have. i also like how tegan and sara openly discuss their songs. most bands don't go so in-depth so it's great to get insight into some of your favorite songs.
I've said this ten million times. I love these two girls. Great songwriters and girls with great personalities and put on a great show. I want to see them live next time they come to the New Jersey, New York area.
Tegan and Sara are the best which I've posted about a million times on different clips. I just love their music and their sense of humor and that means a lot. They are just two great kids and talented. :)
Hahah what an amazing interview! I have always not been a 100% sure how to pronounce sara's middle name :) And it made me very happy to see the girl sitting behind the glass laughing at their amazing jokes .. Hahaha :D
I really liked that interview. It is one of the most informative Tegan and Sara interviews I have ever seen. Oh and I like that idea Tegan mentions at the end, "Bad Idea."
@ophy4 Ghomeshi is one of the best interviewers out there; that's just his style to keep the flow and get in as many questions as possible for the time frame the show has

omg they are so profound i could cry...sara is my hero!
But Sara made a song in 2012 saying that she's not your hero!
Intelligent women...love these two...makes me proud to be canadian
I love how he is floored that they hadn't written in front of each other.. I'm completely with them, it's such an intimate personal experience and I don't think I could do it either. loI I lock myself in a room for days and write... not even a boyfriend or girlfriend has seen the process

I dig Tegan and Sara so much. Love em!!!
hands down, best interview they've done so far.
there needs to be more shows like this
"you've been thinking about us" ahahaha tegan :)
Sara's giggles towards the end, at like 32 minutes on, so cute!! She's so girlie ;)

I hope they do another interview like this for heartthrob!
"... and i will call her my wife..." lol too cute
Tegan and Sara should go out for Halloween this year as simese twins hahaha
I loved this interview but then learned the interviewer Jian Ghomeshi went to court for sexual harassment of a colleague =/
Best interview of the twins I've seen.
I love them and they are great songwriters. They aren't just cute as heck they are talented as heck. Love em!
Doug

these girls looks young but they are smart af! I've never enjoyed a conversation like I did this in a while! props to these ladies!
Jian keeps cutting them off and ignoring what they're saying! The interview is about them, not him. The idea of an interview is to give a question and let them talk and answer the way they want to. I feel like I learned so much about T&S from this.
Consider it done!
The guy reading the intro in front of the artists is kind of uncomfortable to watch
It's a radio program, you doofer
Is it a radio show? I hadn't noticed with the radio studio and all. Thanks.
he's actually a great interview..and got robbed of his career when falsely accused of assault to a line up of jaded ex lovers...all charges were dropped and he ended up with the shitty end of the stick in the entire conspiracy...still waiting for you to come back Jian...some body find this man his own show
Hahaha how fucking long was their introduction, they were both just sitting there like jeez man, start the interview already XD
I loved how Tegan reacted to Jian's reply about marriage (19:45). Such an intelligent reply. And exactly explains how some (mostly women) feel about being pressured by society to get married cause it's some ultimate goal/destination.
It's really cool having just watched your 2013 interview with them and then this haha.
I comment on this interview many times under kemplerbrave so I thought I'd comment again. Still love them and I'm a big fan. I want to play guitar with them. :) I want to buy them dinner sometime also.
He cuts them off a lot.
I love them :) They make my day
I forgot that they mentioned Tom Petty in this interview and now he of course has passed away. Sad when I think of it but feel good that they admired him like many. :)
This guy CANNOT take a joke and he never thinks their answers are good enough. He's rude and annoying.
I fell like T&S are making fun of this guy ahah
It's good that they treat their profession as a "business" because that means they are serious about putting out quality material. I admire their work ethic. Bless them. :)
Tegan and Sara are just great songwriters and I love to hear them. Love em as I've said a thousand times! :)
I feel sort of like he's arguing with them lol. It's still great to watch :)
A whole 34 minutes-interview without any mention of their sexuality - that's what I call progress!
no, you can tell around the 11:00 mark when she's laughing that it's not emy.
"you should watch it high"
@MrAndrewshepard
i don't think he's humourless, he's just not as playful as the girls (maybe resides in the sarcastic waters of humour). personally, i like the guy, he makes good interviews. (and tegan and sara, of course)
You're referring to Emy. And no, it's not her. She didn't travel with them after they broke up in 2007.
this guy can not take a joke, he needs to take a shot and chill out
"This treasure map sucks." lol oh Sara. >.
I simply love them. Talented and good girls. I want to see them live which I've never had the pleasure to do yet. Soon I hope. :) I've said this a million times too. :)
On the other side of the glass, in the other room.
I love how adorable and flirtatious Sara is :)
There is such a difference in this interview compared to this years. They have become so serious and uptight.
this guy is boring. Glad Tegan and Sara kept is good.
AGREED!
''You've been thinking about us?'' haha :)
that was such an amazing interview!
i love Tegan and Sara!! xD

wow...i could listen to sara talk for hours :3
holy shit, they sound exactly the same.
@Turminak To be fair, lots of interviews you see are REAL quick because sometimes the artist has 5 or 6 more to do and so they can only be a couple of minutes long. So seeing a half hour long, indepth interview can be new/surprising in that context for some.

i totally understand Sara's views on love.
Emily is T&S's art director and at one point was Sara's GF.
Can you spot E. Story?
@EpicXI I am just learning guitar but I totally understand what you're saying. I write and draw and I feel the exact same way.
has anyone noticed when sara talks, the tip of her nose bounces..gah..so darling.
though, im stuck on tegan moreso.
the look on sara her face when he asks about babies :D
she looks cute when saying she wants kids
nice interview
it kinda looks like Sara's flirting with the interviewer
@StylinRed I agree. His introductions are unique in the world of talk shows and so well written. I think his introductions are at once casual and professional.

at 11:40 you can see people in the back laughing at what tegan and sara said. lmao.
tegan has a really nice way with words...i never noticed it before
I really liked that interview. It is one of the most informative Tegan and Sara interviews I have ever seen.
Oh and I like that idea Tegan mentions at the end, "Bad Idea."
@ophy4 Ghomeshi is one of the best interviewers out there; that's just his style to keep the flow and get in as many questions as possible for the time frame the show has
@lawlguitar well sara's always interupting tegan and shows so this is just karma
"This treasure map sucks!"
When sara talks her nose moves. So cute! xD 12:45 to 12:56 for example.
This was a great interview. I just want to share how proud I am of these two and I am happy to call them my role models and hope to meet them someday.
19:32
Tegan & Sara are the best. I want to see them live and meet them. Talented and I love how they go about writing their songs which are great!
Haha, it's really funny how at 19:41 Sara acts like she's actually interested about him being single.. and Tegan's just there laughing :]
@zibbled that's what I thought too. I think they're just earrings though.
These two can be really awkward with interviewers :P Love this interview though, its one of their best.
I've watched this a ton of times and come back now and then and watch it again. I guess I'm a big fan right? You bet I am. :)
at 11:40
the person in the blue shirt in the other booth is cracking up
They are great writers and more people should know about them but I dig the hell out of them so that's all that matters. :)
wow my name is Terra and when the interviewer called sara terra I was like OMG TEGAN AND SARA SAID MY NAME lol ima geek
are those plugs in tegan's ears? or are they just big earrings? lol
i thought it was chris walla at first :D
Its crazy how one person can change your life.
Sara: "I'll pay someone to push me around in a wheelchair" haha
When did Tegan take out her labret stud? ;_;
Great interview! Serious and funny! and I love how they say the word process!! lol
anyone else put off by the lady staring through the window :L
am i the only one who noticed that when Sara is talking - her nose tip is moving :D funny
A lot of this interview just sounds lik ea good conversation between friends. Impressive.
@angelinred333 hahahhahaha i always notice that!
i love it.
