In this compilation video, we go over multiple clips that range from mountain lion attacks, cougar encounters and even puma spottings. What makes these ''caught on camera'' moments so scary is the fact that they were filmed in remote areas like a forests, arizona or california desert or even national parks.
We feature a clip where a man tries to tame a mountain lion, men in a canoe encounter a cougar, a man out hunting at night encounters a large mountain lion, a woman on a hike fights off a stalking cougar, a few hunting dogs run after a mountain lion and a pair of hunters have a mountain lion spotting.
These wild cats can be very scary. Some of these creepy videos even feature moments where people were chased down by these animals, which are known to attack or stalk people who are out camping, hunting or mountain biking in the wild.
These mountain lion vs man moments are sure to give you the chills and the fact that some people were lucky enough to capture these near death experiences on gopros or on tape makes it even crazier. Some of these have even gone wrong.

They have a very fast and powerful paw swipe. A full grown healthy male or female would physically completely dominate any man. These cats even scare the shit out of most black bears.
They are basically human sized cats. An adult female can weigh between about 90 to 140 pounds, and a male, about 140 to 220 pounds. The biggest one ever recorded so far weighed 276 pounds which is almost as big as an average female African lioness, and bigger than the average male jaguar.

I noticed an extremely rare species of mosquito flying there and I assumed the arrow was just pointing it out. Had no idea there was a cougar there too
They're known for attacking motorboats, especially the 'big' cats. They were in such danger!

The second video was just a cougar being exhausted from swimming and wanted a place to take a break . And the first video the cougar had no claws and it was missing teeth . This is terribly sad and cruel to do to a cat .

The swimming cat was just crossing the lake. It wasn’t far from shore and no way it was even tired, much less exhausted.

I was hiking one time with a buddy of mine , we were in a canyon , we started at about 6 at night just to hike back to this little kick it spot I know of, when we got there we didn’t expect it to be so dark, the sky was light but the canyon was like really dark. So we decided to just head back early, as we were walking back out of the canyon, I had my tactical flashlight pointed at the ground because I didn’t want to step on a rattlesnake or something, and out of nowhere we just hear something scurry off the ground and bushes being moved really loud. I point my flashlight up and I shit you not, a mountain lion was probably about 10 yards away from us up the trail , and it was big , we were looking at it in the flashlight only and it was just staring back at us . Me and my homie were just stuck looking between each other and the mountain lion, and it kind of pranced off into the tall grass on the right side , and as it was disappearing into the grass we hear the bushes on the left rustle around and a little baby mountain lion comes out and follows it’s mom across the trail. We stood there for about 30 seconds, and it’s a canyon so there’s only 1 way out, I’m lucky my homie was a big guy , cause I’m kind of small. So we just started walking past the tall grass and I was kind of beating the grass lightly with my trekking pole and shouting “hey don’t try it , don’t try it!” Lol but once we made it past the spot I kept shining my light back behind us every 3 seconds or so to make sure that shit wasn’t following us. It was honestly one of the craziest things I’ve ever experienced when it comes to wildlife. I saw a black bear one time in Wyoming on our way to Yellowstone , but we were in the car, not on a trail, and it was crossing the road between the trees. Anyway, just wanted to share that story, definitely an experience .

@@ryans.4715 In Connecticut we have so many black bear now that we have at least one every other day walking through our yard. Here we are sister states to NY, 90 minutes to NYC and bear here are so common. Quite a few people say they have seen a mountain lion around our area, I'm pretty sure I saw one , and one was killed by a car just a few towns away, yet the DEEP insists we don't have them. Id love to see one up close. Just not too up close.

@@ggolds5 Hi there. I am a neighbor to your north in Western Massachusetts. I have never seen a mountain lion in the wild, but many people here in the Northeast swear they have. Wildlife officials insist that there are no thriving populations up here. So if you see one, it is most likely a male that has wandered more than 1000 miles to get here. And the poor cat will never find a female to mate with.
That was the case with your cat from Connecticut. So it is a dangerous long journey for them as they travel 1000 - 1500 miles or more crossing many treacherous highways to get here. Our ancestors were scared to death of these human sized cats, and hunted them to extinction in this part of the country. If they were to ever be reintroduced, it would take humans to make it happen.

While hiking alone in the Eastern Sierras, I was stalked by a cougar. It followed behind me at close range and I wasn't aware of it until I turned around. Thankfully It chose to hide and not attack. Like sharks, they are around us much more than we are aware.

One time I hiked from my house to the gas station. It's about half a mile of asphalt and level terrain. It was early morning and the only noises were cars in the distant and some faint sounds of dogs barking. After I got to the store and starting heading back, I noticed something had started to follow me. I picked up my pace a bit and started getting nervous. Suddenly a strange shape jumped from behind the high grass on the side of the road. I was terrified that it could be a mountain lion or cougar...but it was just my neighbors cat. My life is pretty average.

I’ve had 3 separate encounters with mountain lions while hiking in my lifetime of 23 years, I know videos like this are intentionally dramatic and exaggerated, but if you actually do a tiny amount of research, mountain lion attacks are incredibly rare. They’re generally timid creatures despite their size, it may be scary if you’re face to face with one but the chance of it being aggressive is very low, in all 3 instances where I spooked a mountain lion while out hiking every single one of them booked it from me fast as possible. So there’s really not much reason to be scared of mountain lions, they’re easy to scare away generally. If you have the misfortune of stumbling upon a mother mountain lion with her babies it’s very important to try to back away from those mountain lions soon as possible, while never turning your back on them.
Edit: I went hiking in the dark recently around 3AM, after hiking about 2 miles in I spotted a pair of eyes staring at me intently, after making a bit of noise and trying to scare it off I started throwing rocks in it’s direction to no avail, other than some slight head movement. In this area I was hiking there’s Deer, Elk, Black Bears, and Mountain Lions, with mountain lion sightings not uncommon in the area, with its behavior and the size of the eyes I recognized it was a mountain lion right away, and that of a potentially aggressive mountain lion. As I mentioned, mountain lions are generally timid, especially my encounters with them, but I said generally. This one wasn’t at all dazed by my bright light, the noise I was making, or the rocks I was hurling toward it, after giving up on trying to scare it away I started hiking again turning around very often and making sure it wasn’t stalking me. I eventually lost sight of its eyes and continued on, about a mile after my encounter with the mountain lion I once again noticed a big pair of eyes staring at me, it was closer this time, since it did not run away just from hearing me I once again figured it was a mountain lion, I don’t know if it was the same one and it was stalking me, which is dangerous behavior when a mountain lion does that to a human, or if it was a different mountain lion, nevertheless, I once again started throwing rocks toward it and eventually hitting a tree which made a very loud noise this time it ran away but right as it ran away I could make out it’s figure and it was as I thought, it was a mountain lion. I still believe mountain lions are generally timid but not always, I think it being completely dark might of given the mountain lion a sense of confidence it might not have had if it was during the day, but it all ended well, I continued on my way after scaring it away, and I didn’t see it again. I was hiking alone in the dark trying to beat the heat, which turned out to be 95F that day, if you’re hiking alone in the dark I’d definitely recommend some type of protection, I highly doubt you’d need it but you can never know. 8/2/22

Absolutely right! Although the more people encourage them to come into residential areas, the greater the chance that someone will lose a dog or a child. I know of one of each. The child in northern Montana, and the dog near Nederland CO. I’ve seen them several times in Boulder, CO

They are hunters and it's in their nature to search for prey.
You can always make out a cougar sighting through thick woods at 250 meters but you can never make out a Bigfoot sighting even at 25 feet 😄😄😄
One time i saw a cougar sitting on the bar stool right next to me, and gave another one a ride to a bar when i was driving a cab and was in my early twenties. So what i am trying to say is my cougar sightings have been up close and personal. 😆
Any time i go into big cat country, i just carry a 20 pound sack of catnip and a laser pointer. 😆
When I was 7 my family visited our farm property in eastern Washington as weekend warriors. Driving up a cougar was walking on the side of the road. My dad made no big deal about it. We set up a tent while it was walking across the road. Saw it a few times that summer. It kept its distance, had plenty of deer and elk. Never had any issues. Respect the animal and it’s ability to kill. Do not fear or vilify the animal.
Yeah cougars don’t tend to attack humans unless they’re starving and there’s no other prey around. I ran into one once and it paused to stare at me. My reflex as a cat owner was to slow blink at it and then look off to the side, because that’s how you communicate to cats that you are friendly/mean no harm (it’s pretty universal among all felines even the big ones). It accepted that and just calmly walked off.
Oh yeah there’s lots of Cougars in eastern Washington. *wink*

I will never forget my first time with a Cougar.Probably the most beautiful and frightening experience i ever had. It just sauntered away like a real king. Now i always look up when in the woods.Never go in the woods without at least a strong painful walking stick.
Just had my 1st mountain lion encounter today. I agree. It has me rattled. I'm an avid hiker, and I've always been told that the odds of seeing one are extremely unlikely. But, it happened, and it was scary.

The animal knows you are there. Just not interested.
It knew they were there well before they knew it was there. It didn't see them as a threat or feel the guys were going to mess with it so it just didn't care. But yeah, it knew. I'd rather encounter pretty much any other animal in the wild than a mountain lion, with the exception of maybe a bear. And I say this as someone who has lived around swamps and swam in the gulf all my life.

I had an encounter with a mountain lion outside my house one night about 3 or 4 years ago. I was up late at night cleaning the house while my husband worked overnight and I walked outside to dump my mop water. the porch light was on and when I looked up after dumping my mop bucket I saw two glowing eyes across the driveway about 20 to 30 feet away. it moved a little closer and I saw it's head a little clearer. I just said "that's not a bobcat." and walked backward into the house. I went in and loaded a shotgun and went back out to check on my dogs outside. they were just watching where the cat had been silently, lettingout the occational growl. The mountain lion has remained in the area for a while but it's strange because for the most part we don't have mountain lions/cougars in my state.
I did also hear one once as a teenager during a barbeque, so I know for a fact they lived in the area but there's only one confirmed documented case of a cougar in the state and the unaltered picture is from the other end of the state. when I heard the scream of the cougar as a teen I just asked my dad who screamed and he just said noone. then he told me to get in the truck. everybody there started rounding up all their goats and putting them in the barn and the entire barbeque wrapped up. we were surrounded by mountains on everyside with the driveway being the only way in or out of the little bitty valley we were in. all the kids of the host were sent inside and everyone else left. on the way home my dad told me that was a mountain lion and he thought they didn't live here. we are originally from California so my dad had heard them and seen them when hunting before I was born but as far as we knew they didn't live in our state of Tennessee since the early to mid 1900s. in 23 years those are the only two cases of mountain lions I've experienced here and frankly it's terrifying.

I also think a few of the encounters were not predatorial, just curious cougars watching the strange animals that stand up right.

The dogs were trained to hunt mountain lions. And they probably didn’t kill it for multiple reasons like couldn’t have been a female or they could just be doing biological study’s. Video makes it seem like they didn’t want to catch one.

I used to live about a mile from a goood sized river, the wife and I went to walk the dogs in a elementary school we were deep into the school when my wife saw something very large about 100 yards away. Luckily the school had a very tall fence, we got out and were able to get very close to the mountain lion I’ll never forget the stare it gave us.

Well, bears are extremely slower and very clumsy of wild cats (in fact have a very quiet nature, not surprising they are omnivores , otherwise without fish to catch or defenseless cubs to hunt, (but more generally some vulnerable animals to capture) they starve, (in wild they have a very low chance of survival by eating only meat) so, an omnivorous animal as you can imagine, naturally develops a more docile character...) but, you shouldn't be afraid of pumas or bears, you need only to know how be-have appropriately for avoid mistakes (you are not their type of prey) I tink, who has not experience with wild-life, should continued to keep their ass in the city .... (wild animals are not the danger) obviously, they can show curiosity after see you (since they don't often see the human animal) but, they're not these crazy serial-killers as are described in the town .... (obliouvsly this doesen't mean that if you meet them, you will try to pet one ....😀)
He managed to pet it!?! Watching him approach the beast WITH A BED SHEET really did me in. Amazing it never lunged at any of them! It always had the upper hand, but it didn't realize it. It was scared for sure!
It was declawed and missing teeth . Someone purposely removed it's canines and declawed it so it could y hurt anyone. I'd be pissed too . They took away that cats only way to protect itself . And declawing any cat is inhumane and cruel . Much less having it's fangs removed . That's evil !

@@darlanahernandez4052 I understand what you are saying but if you have an exotic pet cat you must declaw it or it will kill someone one day. I think keeping an exotic cat pet is cruel in itself. If you do must get it as a pet you should declaw it.
@@ahmedmukhtar6961 Declawing is a cruel practice. You're not removing the nails of a cat like people think, you are literally removing a good portion of the finger bones to. Its the equivelent of getting half your finger lenghts removed. You're pretty much just crippling the animal. How about instead of crippling the animal, you just make sure you have proper security and don't let people near it. Or even better yet, don't take a large, dangerous predator as a pet?

How dangerous was the lion being attacked by a pack of harmless dogs! Not! The poor lion.
This was actually a clip from the show, Mountain Men. The handler was hired because cougars were getting too close to livestock. The goal was to force the cougar to move back to the high country. These dogs were trained to chase the cougar out of the area. There was no attack. Check out the show. It's fantastic. History Channel.

The second to last video where the four bloodhounds have the lion trapped in the tree is from the show, "Mountain Men". The owner did eventually find his dogs even though one of them was cut open from being swatted by the big cat!

In a narrow in Central Utah, i was driving up to the base of a mountain to go snowmobiling. Mind you in these narrows its a narrow two lane road with no shoulders. Passed a sweet older lady riding her bike, 30 yd further there was a GIANT cougar in hunt mode following right behind her. Not sure what wouldve happened if i didnt scare that cat away

I wish I recorded the encounter o had with a mountain lion. Scary thing that's ever happened to me in my life my husband and I were camping had a sitter for the kids thank goodness. Remote camping private spot. It was around 1 am my husband went fishing I was sitting by the fire. When out of the side view I see something move I look up and I swear on everything I love she was standing about 20 feet from me. I was shook.. She crouched at me and I took three huge steps into my fire pit and grabbed a lit log and just lifted it fast and hard and the lion took off... It's was very very scary

My grandparent have a cabin in Montana, it’s a little off the beaten path but the road that it’s on is close to other cabins, so it was a pretty tight knit little community. One day, one of the ladies that lived on the road was returning from grocery shopping and began unloading the car, she noticed that a neighbor who lived about 200 yards away was in his from yard waving at her, she didn’t really think anything of it, and went inside her family’s cabin. When she came back out she heard a gunshot, and a Cougar that was in the trees above her, fell out of the trees. She of course freaked out at this, and then noticed that the neighbor who lived down that street had a rifle. He had been waving to her as a warning, he had seen the cougar around her caving and had kept an eye on it. The lady that the Lion was above always had a .41 Magnum Revolver with her, but with groceries, there is no way she would’ve been able to get it drawn in time before the Lion attacked.
While they had no way of knowing if the Lion would’ve attacked, the neighbor took no chances, and it could’ve saved the woman’s life. Cougars aren’t an animal that you should dismiss. They’re arguable the most dangerous and aggressive animals in North America, I don’t know the numbers of attacks, but several have happened around my area in recent years. One of which was a Jogger who was pounced by a juvenile, although he got hurt pretty bad, the Jogger managed to fight it off and actually strangled the thing to death. But if would’ve been any bigger, he would’ve been food.
No, cougars aren't the "most dangerous and aggressive animals in North America". Both alligators and bears are far more dangerous and aggressive. Five people have been killed by alligators in the US in the last 2 years (including 3 people in just the last 4 months alone). Thirteen people have been killed by bears in the US in the last 3 years. Only 5 people have been killed by lions in the US since 2000.

Where cougars are attacked, the one's that are the issue are young males that are generally bolder then females and have a bigger tendency to roam around, and haven't always learned that that humans must be avoided. And if we're talking about the same jogger, then I actually know what caused it. Or rather, biologists who study cougars do. A lot of people think that hunting cougars makes them less likely to attack people. But it seems that its the opposite case. Hunting cougars creates a lot of orphans, who are inexsperienced. They're more likely to go after people out of ignorance and desperation.
There was a case of a jogger who managed to choke a cougar to death. The cougar in question was likely one such animal, given it was a small, starving juvenile who was even still had some spots that cubs have.

Sometimes yes, but sometimes no. Just like humans, some animals are timid, and some are not. You can also scare a black bear away. But if they do confront you, you can not win. Any adult big cat or bear could and would completely dominate the strongest human on the planet.

There's one in Provo Utah where a mountain lion basically followed this guy on a trail for a long time running and swiping at him.
I remember that video. That was a young female that was probably trying to scare him away from her babies. I believe it worked.

I have lived with Cougars all my life. But the scariest time was when i was outside in the pitch dark talking to my cat, and a Cougar was about 5 feet from me and grabbed my cat. I didn't hear a sound except for my cat crying for a second. I ran in the house and grabbed a flashlight, and the Cougar was about 30 feet away. She looked at me with her big firery redish orange eyes. Then, in a minute, she was up the mountain and staired at me one more time.
#2 is from a "reality TV show". It was on A&E I think, about off the grid, backwoods, elderly hillbillies in Montana and the Appalachian area.

And? A cougar can sprint about 40 mph. Unless you're already holding the gun in firing position, it could cover that ground and be right in front. And it's one thing hitting a moving target going across your field of vision and it'ssomethingyou're not scared of. It's another entirely to hit a moving target coming at you when you're terrified.

I lived in the backwoods, mountain lions literally all over the place. They don't like fighting and will run like hell unless you accidentally corner one. They aren't as territorial or predatory as these few instances make them seem. They are literally "scaredy-cats".

You're probably more likely to walk off a cliff than to be attacked by an animal. I live in the Colorado Rocks. At least once a year on separate occasions we have a bear, mountain lions and bobcats hangout at our doorstep until I run them off. They usually don't return (or at least I don't see them) until the following year.

I moved to Oregon from Texas three years ago I was in a simmlier situation where the lady tried yelling if and I was traumatized because I bearsprayed myself had to call in because I work with chemailly and I had to protect myself it chemailly burned my lungs and face I keep my dog one a leash out where I live because of the wildlife I was so trumatized I can’t walk in the dark without having a panic attack

Me and my 7 other clasmates got followed and attacked (kinda) by a cougar. Lemme explain. So me and my 7 classmates were in a Canada national park named Banff National Park, we had a little cabin in the moutains on the edge of a forest and around 24:30 or smtn we went into the woods alone, at night, without a tour guide. Something we would later regret. We started a lil' fire in a local campsite in the woods and it all went well untill a fiew minutes later we heard something in the bushes. We started packing up and leaving but as we looked back at the trail, we saw A FREAKING COUGAR following us all the way to the cabin. It kept dissapearing in the bushes but then it would come back. We made ut to the cabin and as we were walking into the cabin the cougar started running toward my friend who whas the furthest from us. We started throwing rocks at the cougar untill it went away. Shocking and terrefying experiance and we were only 15 at the time...

I’ve been hiking in New Mexico for decades and never seen a cougar. I’ve seen claw marks six feet up in trees, paw prints, and many dismembered deer, but never seen an actual cat. We even have a puma skull that my dad recovered at the bottom of a gourge.
That being said im sure they’ve seen me, many times.
