Have you ever done a Radical Red run where each gym you beat, you have to use a different generation. IE: if you beat Brock with Gen 1, you can't use Gen 1 anymore. Then beat Misty with only Gen 2 Pokemon. Then the last gym is egg encounters or Sevii or something.
Since you beat the gyms with a Pokemon team from each generation you don't run out until the League
