Great reaction Maria.🤘🦊 Great spot with the reflections in the girls' eyes after the masks shattered to reveal the figures in white were them all along - very few people notice that and the attention to detail in this video.
I am so happy OSN is introducing you to BABYMETAL ... he is certainly doing it in his own way (there are so many things I could correct, but I don't think I need to as long as you are enjoying and appreciating these wonderful young ladies and what they do - and I don't want my attempts to be helpful to be mistaken for elitism or hate).
As OSN said, 'Karate' was the lead single for their second album (2016). What he didn't tell you was that it is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times.
They used karate to illustrate this because as a Japanese martial art it reflects their culture - that was a very important thing for them as well. As with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards.
In the video the figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves.
They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible (but they are not martial artists). As I think you caught on straight away, Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time .... and she let it go. We all know Moa wouldn't hurt a fly.
This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".
Their first music video after becoming an independent band in 2013 was for 'Megitsune' - their female empowerment anthem ... they were not just cute early on.
Just a quick comment on Sonisphere 2014. The crowd may have started out looking puzzled, by the end of their 5 song set they were calling for "One more song" and they loved what they had seen. I mention this because only yesterday in an interview at Graspop in Belgium Su-metal specifically spoke about Sonisphere 2014 and how that was when they felt accepted by the metal community and how it gave them so much confidence with touring the world from then on.
You are going to watch Download 2016 next and that really is very impressive, I know you will love it and OSN is absolutely right to show you that performance in the English rain, but BABYMETAL were already on the way to establishing themselves by then - they had even sold out Wembley Arena earlier that year.

I really like the idea of the Kami band of spirits or gods that get summoned to play for the young ladies and doing what's required while they are singing. Then, when offered even a small opportunity to get heavy, they start breaking it down. At that point the ladies start singing again and reel in or restrain the Kami band until their next opportunity. I like the idea of the only reasons the Kami band doesn't melt your face completely off is the ladies' beautiful vocals.

You do know Rondo of NightMare , Akatsuki, No Rain No Rainbow , Megitsune, Headbanger, and BabyMetal Death, where performed before Sonisphere 2014 which is not same festival as Download 2016 . BabyMetal, where the talk of Sonisphere and sold more merchandise than Metallica and Iron Maiden . selling out shows in Europe before Download 2016, and they performed at Wembley Arena in 2016. BabyMetal has been selling out shows since 2014 and still do . 2017, they did not end with Yui's departure
They played to Huge audince 2018 Download and LA Forum in 2019 sold out . BabyMetal can still do no wrong they recently passed 3 million subscribers on UA-cam, and their new album, The Other One absolutely a Banger . The last 4 collaboration songs mv on UA-cam. They got over a million views in day from all of them
Covid only slowed BabyMetal down over 100 performances across the world, sold out 2023. Their European festival tour is attracting huge enfusiatic audiences, and the US tour is already selling out, and they added a 3rd night to the House of Blues shows .

We all admire what oldskule is trying to do (The One can inundate newbies with more info than they can absorb and process), but I do hope you know that he's mostly talking out of his butt. XD Love the enthusiasm from him! Just....every time I see one of these videos now, as I'm clicking it, I think, 'Oh glob, what's he going to tell her this time?' XD BabyMetal have talked about this video a lot, and it's not about being super heroes. In fact, it's kind of the opposite. They are fighting what are essentially their inner demons/past selves. The song/video is about, when you get knocked down, working on yourself and leaning on your friends will help you get back up and persevere. It's something everyone can and should do, no actual super powers required, and is meant to be metaphorical, inspirational, and uplifting. Also...BabyMetal is still with Amuse. And Amuse is still a pain in the ass. You're not going to have an easier time with their newer material than you're having with the older stuff. Regardless, enjoying your journey. You don't need to know a whole lot about BabyMetal to enjoy them and be a part of The One. All the extra info (when correct XD) does deepen one's appreciation, but being a fan doesn't have to mean being an expert. Hope you continue to have fun! That's what BabyMetal is actually about. I posted this a few minutes before the end of the video. XD Does anyone else know what he's talking about? I thought the black costumes for the Kami Band were part of the Darkside arc. Which happened in 2018. That's not even the Kami Band in the video. The Kami Band is never in the omvs.
My favorite part of this series is so all of the hate will be directed at me and not Maria that just wants to enjoy these amazing women…. Babymetal, the warning, evanescence, nightwish and so many wonderful bands all have one horrible thing in common…. Elitist judgemental fans that instead of encouraging new listeners make people feel like crap for even showing up…. Thanks for proving what I told Maria would happen…. That is why I played this role cause she doesn’t deserve elitists looking down their noses at people just trying to enjoy the art….. thank you again for your love of Babymetal…. They fight for the negativity in music industry, such as sexualizing women (girl) for one (even in Japan idol industry)
The topic is mostly positive, encouraging, hopeful, fun.. contrary to usual 'metal' genre topic
I'm like a proud dads or ucles to these ladies and I think a lot of kitsunes are

Here's a bit of info about their labels/managment (as far as i know, someone correct me if i'm wrong)
Their record labels have always been Toy's Factory/BDMfox Records and Amuse inc. With Toy's Factory being the main Japanese record label, BMDfox being a Babymetal-branded sub-label of Toy's Factory, and Amuse being more copyright owners rather than traditional label. Other labels such as Earmusic (europe) and RCA Records (US) handle overseas distribution. Amuse are mainly a talent managment agency.
Though they were not created by Amuse (they were created by Key Kobayashi) and Amuse does not interfere artistically with the music, Amuse own the rights to the music because Koba and the girls were and still are Amuse employees.
I'm sure I read Koba saying they have created their own record label called Babymetal Records, but Amuse will still own the rights anyway, so the blocking will likely stay the same.
I really appreciate the way you're approaching these reactions. You have a great attitude and nice observations. I just had two things I wanted to add to what Oldskul had to say about Sonisphere. (1) and the upcoming Karate live at Download (2).
1st.The crowd of 55K were pretty skeptical at first but by the end of Babymetal's set they were literally yelling "we want more!" The concert went so well that ever since Babymetal has kind of considered England their home away from home.
2nd The Download Festival-often referred to as the "Downpour Festival" appearance was done in a roaring rainstorm. There was concern that the girls shouldn't even go out. But Su, Moa&Yui felt all those people were there to see them and went out and performed anyways. Check the audience-remember it's a downpour-and everybody stayed til the end!

Okay, I have to chime in at this point and mention that this is another instance of OLDSKULENERD saying things that are patently untrue (as just one example, saying that "Karate" was their first real metal, non-cutesie video - I would argue that something like their official video for "Headbanger!!" or even "Ijime, Dame, Zettai" proves that is untrue), or saying things that are pure speculation and opinion rather than established fact. I think that once this "series" of you and him is over, that it would be better to just maybe get recommendations from him (although, the BABYMETAL fans in the comments can do just as good if not a better job at that) and do BABYMETAL reactions on your own. Not that any facts are necessary to enjoy BABYMETAL, I'm just saying that you should really take what's being told to you with a huge grain of salt.

Some facts not correct, but they did get better videos (higher production) from here. Good into using the earlier vids, then get ready for live and recent stuff.
Karate is still kawaii metal, like so many other Babymetal songs. Also, Su-metal can still do very kawaii vocals today, especially for their older songs, like Doki Doki Morning, when preformed live. Also, Su sounds pretty much the same as in Road of Resistance, since that was released even before Karate.

I did some videos showing all the cuts of him accidentally calling Boh the Kami band, bass player for a lot of the early Babymetal live shows “DOH” and another video of him calling Su-metal Suey. All in good fun. I did a few other videos of his “mistakes” which his family really enjoyed. I love what you guys are doing. Um, Amuse is their record label, not a production company. They are now and always has been, even during the Sakura Gakuin days.
Amuse is not a record label, it's a talent agency. Toy's Factory is Babymetal's label, with their sub-label BMD Fox Records
