I think it works, because Leota only summons the others, hes there from the get go laughing at you because one of you will be 1000th ghost. Even tho hes not and wasnt in MK version(the only one ive ridden) ive always sort of thought he was the ghost host. The sense of peril that lingers from stretching room till your escape
I agree. His location looks fine, and it was probably the best room to place him in other than the attic. It definitely was inspired by how the Hatbox Ghost is in the new movie.

Dude! Hatbox Ghosty is Amazing! Haunted Mansion still is and always will be my favorite ride at Disney, even with all the new exciting thrill rides being made. One more week and I get to see him in person too! so excited. I may need to ride it multiple times myself just to make sure he's really there Lol. I think Hatbox Ghost is part of the original 999 Happy Haunts because of his story at Disneyland - how he was originally in the ride when it opened but "mysteriously disappeared" at a later date. Have you seen that history before? (The nighttime maintenance Cast Members had a card to document him.) I agree at Disneyland you go by him too fast! That corner is speedy.

Growing up in the 1980s, we had the Haunted Mansion storybook record album, with the 1969 art booklet, and the hatbox ghost was depicted in the Attic as you noted. The original Disneyland animatronic was removed just after opening due to its bad lighting effects, and it never made it to Disney World until today. The animatronic looks great, but that little detail of placement would have been nice from an overall story perspective.
Jackie, I am looking forward to seeing Hat Box Ghost on our next trip to Disney. As far as Tron goes, it was good and fun. I rode Hagrids and those motorbikes weren't like Tron lifecycles. You didn't have to lean forward as much as on Tron. I think my time riding Tron I am going to ask to sit in the regular seat and try it that way. Now if I compared Tron and Guardians, since they are both Disney coasters, I think I will say that Guardians is my fav of the two. I love both Tron movies also.
I agree with you! I wasn't one of the people comparing TRON to Hagrid's in that way, I've always said they are very different. I also agree that I'd rank Guardians over TRON, but I still really enjoy TRON and find it really fun and different. It's not like anything else at Magic Kingdom and I always smile the entire time! I wish Guardians and TRON would move to standby lines at least being an option though, it stinks that you can't ride either without a virtual queue or Lighting Lane.

My daughter and I rode Rise through the standby line and we were through the line, on the ride and off in about 40 minutes. At least on that day. Tron is definitely a unique coaster and I like it as well. I am glad they give the guests the option of riding in a regular seat if they choose to. I'll try that next time. I have only ridden Hagrids once. So I need to ride it again. LOL.
To me they aligned the story closer to the newest movie. He’s in the hallway throughout the movie and he’s not summoned by Leota or a seance because he’s always there, moves about, and is in control of the rest of the spirits including Leota. It makes sense he isn’t subject to a seance given that new story and the 999 still works since you as the rider are the potential 1000 that allows him to take the power he’s after. But either way Hatbox is a king and we love him. A hatbox moment was needed in WDW!
See like I said, I think the movie story and the ride story are and should be different, but one thing we agree on is that wherever he is, we love him and he was much needed!! Seeing him in person, he’s just so cool that I don’t even care where he is 😂

If you ever come to Paris, you should go to the Paris version of the haunted mansion, Phantom Manor. It is completely different and way spookier and also got refreshed since 2018. For me it's the best haunted mansion in the world 👍
I went to Disneyland Paris in 2019 and loved it and LOVED Phantom Manor and rode it twice!! Mom made us wait 6 months after WDW opened in '71. The Haunted Mansion instantly became my Number One E ticket attraction. (no Space or Big Thunder mountains yet!) Ultimately it led to my career in theatre and movie special effects. (in college I used to sneak backstage while the attraction was running- Top to bottom. Fascinating!!! ... FL & CA) Don't try this today, kids, Mickey has a digital memory now.

I’ve been putting a lot of care into growing it out healthy the past couple years 🙏🏼 during the pandemic I let it get crazy because the world was on fire, salons were closed and I just didn’t care. But now it’s finally grown out healthy again and I’ll take good care of it 💕💕💕
The mansion is really one of the best and iconic 'ride' Disney has created. It's stands the test of time and represents what they excel. We hadn't been to the park in years but when we went in September that was the first thing we hit. Honestly there isn't many rides we do at MK. You mention of the storylines have me thinking I never really paid attention to what the actual HM story was. We head over on the 16th mostly just to check out the decorations then back to Epcot. Hopefully gets cooler. Though I may check out Tron since you have the video..looks cool. Nice look with the sunglasses.
My earliest Disney memories also include being immediately enthralled with the Haunted Mansion and the fact that you could see and visit actual ghosts! Like you, my favorite ride ever. Great video as always👍👻

I've visited that house and it absolutely gives Haunted Mansion vibes! If you've never heard or seen about this, look up the house. It's very cool! Ok I loooove HM. But I feel like he should have been placed on the right hand side after the attic scene before you turn and go backwards down the hill into the graveyard scene. My favorite Haunted Mansion is Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris. Because the whole area Frontierland is in storyline of Hendry Ravenswood *the Phantom* that killed the Groom of is daughter Melanie Ravenswood.
I know some have pointed out that the HBG appears too early and that he should be more towards the end of the ride. After all the spirits haven't materialized yet. I figure since he's new they wanted to feature him early on. Maybe he'll move later? I dunno lol.

Disney has lost their storytelling touch. At this point, I'll just enjoy the animatronic wherever they put it. But actually, now that I see it again, it takes away from the endless hallway. Your focus goes to the Hatbox Ghost, and you glaze right over the floating candelabra.
this is definitely true, you don't pay attention to anything else there and they removed some things. But on the other hand, he's really cool and fits the vibe, even if not necessarily the "story." I'm trying to just not take it too seriously, it's better than them adding more screens or some other horrible thing.
@SuperEnthused Yeah, it's a great character, and I've seen it at Disneyland. It goes by too quick there. This placement does give it time to shine. And it's probably not that big of a deal compared to what they could have done with more changes to script, which would mean totally redoing the narration. That would mean losing the Paul Frees iconic voice. I'm good with it.
That idea has been scrapped for now. There were plans for Melbourne to get a Disney park but the higher ups thought that as we're too isolated and too far away and less densely populated it's not viable. Also Melbourne's weather is quite bipolar being known to have all four seasons in a day! 😂 There's plenty of updated articles on it online 😢 At least now the old Sydney Showgrounds/Fox Studios Australia have been renamed as Disney Studios Australia since they bought them out. At least we're now getting Disney cruises in Australia. My Dad and stepmother recently went on the first cruise from Sydney for four nights on the Disney Wonder back in October. I do believe we're getting a Bluey cartoon park in Brisbane later next year though which considering that SO MANY American kids are obsessed with might be a good attraction for families on holidays.
It's not meant to look like him, he's not even a part of the rides story, only the newest movie. Heck, even the Eddie Murphy Hanted Mansion movie had nothing to do with that rides other international versions or storylines! Hatbox ghost is supposed to look creepy though as he goes from human to ghost with evil powers he's gonna change and look more dead and no longer like his (possibly) originally handsome human self. He's more a ghoulish demon or😅 spirit.
It is heart breaking that Diseny doesn't care about theming or story telling anymore and, for example, just slap a ghost pre-séance or stick a Tree of Life expansion next to EPCOT's park icon. Their lack of caring is why I no longer cared to renew my pass there.

The mansion is really one of the best and iconic 'ride' Disney has created. It's stands the test of time and represents what they excel. We hadn't been to the park in years but when we went in September that was the first thing we hit. Honestly there isn't many rides we do at MK. You mention of the storylines have me thinking I never really paid attention to what the actual HM story was. We head over on the 16th mostly just to check out the decorations then back to Epcot. Hopefully gets cooler. Though I may check out Tron since you have the video..looks cool. Nice look with the sunglasses.
My earliest Disney memories also include being immediately enthralled with the Haunted Mansion and the fact that you could see and visit actual ghosts! Like you, my favorite ride ever. Great video as always👍👻

Jackie, things have definitely changed with Hatbox Ghost joining the Haunted Mansion. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of folks expressing their opinions either For or Against, but I’ll simply say it IS cool how close he is to the Doom Buggies as you go by him.

I was scared as a kid of the haunted mansion when I finally got back to Disney I rode it again it's one of my faves next to space mountain another one I was scared of

For someone who loves to learn, did you know that the Disney World Haunted mansion was inspired by the Harry Packer house in Jim Thorpe, PA? I've visited that house and it absolutely gives Haunted Mansion vibes! If you've never heard or seen about this, look up the house. It's very cool! My favorite Haunted Mansion is Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris.
Because the whole area Frontierland is in storyline of Hendry Ravenswood *the Phantom* that killed the Groom of is daughter Melanie Ravenswood.

I know some have pointed out that the HBG appears too early and that he should be more towards the end of the ride. After all the spirits haven't materialized yet. I figure since he's new they wanted to feature him early on. Maybe he'll move later? I dunno lol.

Disney has lost their storytelling touch. At this point, I'll just enjoy the animatronic wherever they put it.
But actually, now that I see it again, it takes away from the endless hallway. Your focus goes to the Hatbox Ghost, and you glaze right over the floating candelabra.
this is definitely true, you don't pay attention to anything else there and they removed some things. But on the other hand, he's really cool and fits the vibe, even if not necessarily the "story." I'm trying to just not take it too seriously, it's better than them adding more screens or some other horrible thing.
@SuperEnthused Yeah, it's a great character, and I've seen it at Disneyland. It goes by too quick there. This placement does give it time to shine. And it's probably not that big of a deal compared to what they could have done with more changes to script, which would mean totally redoing the narration. That would mean losing the Paul Frees iconic voice. I'm good with it.

I know Australia is getting a Disney Theme park
That idea has been scrapped for now. There were plans for Melbourne to get a Disney park but the higher ups thought that as we're too isolated and too far away and less densely populated it's not viable. Also Melbourne's weather is quite bipolar being known to have all four seasons in a day! 😂
There's plenty of updated articles on it online 😢 At least now the old Sydney Showgrounds/Fox Studios Australia have been renamed as Disney Studios Australia since they bought them out.
At least we're now getting Disney cruises in Australia. My Dad and stepmother recently went on the first cruise from Sydney for four nights on the Disney Wonder back in October.
I do believe we're getting a Bluey cartoon park in Brisbane later next year though which considering that SO MANY American kids are obsessed with might be a good attraction for families on holidays.

It's not meant to look like him, he's not even a part of the rides story, only the newest movie. Heck, even the Eddie Murphy Hanted Mansion movie had nothing to do with that rides other international versions or storylines!
Hatbox ghost is supposed to look creepy though as he goes from human to ghost with evil powers he's gonna change and look more dead and no longer like his (possibly) originally handsome human self. He's more a ghoulish demon or😅 spirit.

It is heart breaking that Diseny doesn't care about theming or story telling anymore and, for example, just slap a ghost pre-séance or stick a Tree of Life expansion next to EPCOT's park icon. Their lack of caring is why I no longer cared to renew my pass there.
Back in the 80s, the bride at Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion was spooky. A lot scarier than it is today. 🫣😅
She was a lot spookier at WDW before too!
