Sam is nothing but a fountain sarcastic jokes from some empty-headed sitcom. He is in what appears to be a very serious situation and it cannot keep his mouth shut and take anything seriously. Also it is not at all clear why Astra needs his help it is not apparent that he did anything that she could not do herself.
