I'm 74 and been listening to the Grass Roots since the 1960s when I was in high school. I still listen to them today with Amazon devices in every room in my home, and their greatest hits is one of my all-time favorite albums.
Wow how lucky, I don’t think anything could top this Era of music. I’m 22 and I absolutely love this music, can’t even imagine how weird it is adjusting to the new sound when you have this.
Oh my gosh, me too. I totally agree. I had older brothers in the 70s and they had a large collection of the music from back then. When they weren't home I would sneak in their room and play album after album. For hours and hours I would listen. The Grass Roots was one I listened to the most. Always loved their music. It really was a great time in so many ways inuding great tunes that came out. So fun.
I still thrill to his incomparable voice. I've met him numerous times and though he was always in pain because of his degenerative hip disease; was always a gentleman and very sweet. Miss him.
Years ago my wife and me saw them in Corvallis Oregon.. We were in the last row Rob come up to us hey I have two seats in the middle of the first row ..After the show he wait right there he went a signed a cd and give it to my wife ..He talked to us for about ten mins. !!!!
Was I Las Vegas a year ago and saw the Grassroots perform without Rob, they mentioned his name and made a point to remember him during there performance. It was beautiful and Rob Grill was hot and very good looking.
I was in Landis Jr High, Baldwin Park Calif, in our school dances when I first heard their song Midnight Confession. I am 65 yrs old and I still love the Grass Roots music.
The Grass Roots - More Golden Grass. That was the very first record I bought from the Grass Roots. The only song I was wanting was Heaven Knows. It was in early 1971 in Albany, Ga. I am now 63 years old and still have the More Golden Grass album. The rest is very fondly revered history to this day. While my Dad was stationed at N.A.S. Albany, Ga. I got to meet the whole group and went to several concerts at Albany Jr. College. Went to several practice sessions with them on Albany. At the concerts I had a restricted access to everything going on because I was dating the stage photographer's daughter. All this happened from early 1971 to mid 1974. I was devasted at news the about the passing of Rob in 2011. Then I find out about Rick Coonce passing but afew months before Rob. Rick was their percussionist. The last time I got to see them was at a casino in Mississippi right after Hurricaine Ivan (2004). Got their new CD and Rob signed it along with a black and white glossy pic of the whole group at that time. Rob was the front man for the Grass Roots and always very entertaining on or off stage. The rest of the guys were equally respectfull to anyone they would talk to. Rob carried the torch for the group very well and the legacy is in very good hands as they continue to be the The Grass Roots with all of the original material that has brought them fame. Rob is miss so very much. Will never be able to replace him here on earth, but he is going strong in our hearts. May God speed
Beautifully stated! I saw Rob with the GRs several times over the years. He performed even when in severe pain from a progressive bone disease, because he loved his fans. He is truly missed. 😪
Linda Neller Yeah so sad to watch. I was/ am a big Grass Roots and Rob Grill fan. Turns out I have the same birth date as Rob. And ironically also can relate to his demons . The injuries , scripts which can lead to a downward spiral. I was lucky enough to find , and stay in a 12 step program.. Yeah RIP Rob , God Bless you .
I was the drummer for Phil Fang Volk and we warmed up for The Grassroots in Oshkosh this same year. Phil and I were in the elevator at our hotel and it stopped at a floor and a guy with cut off jeans jumped on and when he got off Phil goes “ that was Rob Grill”. This was the night before the show of course
Great story! Thank you. I’m really not sure why Rob didn’t chat with you or at least get introduced to you after all Phil was incredibly huge with The Raiders back in the 60’s and you were with him in that elevator.
@ogredad55 Thanks so much for the nice comment. 😊 I bought this old bootleg recording... wasn't actually at this show, but was lucky to have seen Rob Grill and the Grass Roots a few times before he passed. And I'm an old hippie chic, now 65+, lol... trying to keep 'our' music alive. Thanks for watching and stay well!✌️
It's the end of the world as we know it! It's the end of the world as we know it....RIP "The World" and Rob.. a great singer from a great band and era!
@@larryphillips7538 So unfortunate. I finally got to see Rob perform in 2010 Schenectady NY. One of my idols from days gone by. My sympathy for your loss in many ways.
Unfortunately, there were no original members left after the 80's except for Rob Grill. And sadly, he passed away in 2011. Dusty Hanvey still plays lead guitar... since the 80's. And Mark Dawson started subbing in 2008 when Rob had health problems. He took over lead vocals permanently after Rob's death.
This song (and the sound here is so great -- the drums and the guitars are so sharp) takes me back to the Vietnam days when I was so so young but loved this music. I would daydream of laying in a field with the warm sun shining on me -- no humidity of course!!
I really love this guy there is something genuine and really cool about him not even mentioning his great talents as well! I wonder if he's ever going to go in the 70s Cruise

Love their music. O wish people wouldn't talk or laugh during a performance. Its very rude and disrespectful!
I still thrill to his incomparable voice. I've met him numerous times and though he was always in pain because of his degenerative hip disease; was always a gentleman and very sweet. Miss him.

Great (Revolving) Band, sadly, very Underrated Music,...thanks!
"The Grass Roots," are Not considered a real Band,...They're a "Song writers Band," that had a multi-varied Line Up of Musicians!
Thank you for this, he's so missed
