QUICK FACT - The Jerry Rivera Sample was used by Wyclef Jean several times. First for his hit "Dance Like This" which later birthed Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie". He also appears in the music video for this song "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)" during the intro, prior to the sample dropping.
Whatever it is, Wyclef for sure loves this sample.
Another Fun Fact: Steely Dan's sample was also used for Tatyana Ali's 1st single "Daydreamin' (Feat. Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz)" off of her debut and only album Kiss The Sky👩🏾🧿 frfr💯
It was a cassette player.
Peter Gunz said that they never received writing credit for “Deja Vu.” In order for Steely Dan to clear the sample, they had to be the only writing credit on the song.
You know what's so crazy, I randomly came across a video explaining the history behind this song, which Peter ended posting on his IG. It's quite an intriguing watch. You should check it out.
Sad. Cause they barely made money off this song cause of it.
