    This sounds so good on clavichord, very subtle playing.

      I think the whole suite is good on clavichord. I hope to find the time to do the rest soon!

    The clavichord is (imo) the most difficult keyboard instrument. I've played piano, fortepiano, organ, harpsichord, and virginal, but NONE are nearly as challenging and nuanced as the clavichord. Amazing job!

      @@gabrielaguilera4960 Well it's complicated, but you have to have a very delicate touch. Too hard and makes a brash sound, too soft and it doesn't sound at all. That's just one thing tho

      @@Stonmann Thankyou I enjoyed that, it looks very difficult to play, you can sense the effort made to learn the technique and style. Bravo Thankyou

    Clavichords are probably the hardest keyboards to master since it is the only one where the actual quality of the note depends on accurate placement and playing. A harpsichord key can be pressed down even on the edge at a stretch, and the jack takes care of the plucking, the finger of the clavichord player however needs to be placed in the middle, firmly and accurately otherwise the note can sound choked or insipid. It was recommended that all students start on and own a clavichord so that the touch learned on this instrument could be successfully transferred to the organ etc.
    The playing here on this slow piece demonstrates well the methods of a true clavichord player!

      When I was looking for a harpsichord I found a clavichord, when I found a harpsichord I realised that playing the clavichord had in some ways improved my harpsichord playing. Thank you for your kind words 🙏

    This Sarabande will be always connected in my mind with the 1975 movie: "Barry Lyndon" (Stanley Kubrick) - the sad scene with this music at the background, in the funeral journey of Barry's 9 years old son... However, your performance is beautiful without connection to this movie - thanks for uploading.

    This one, sarabande in D Minor from harpsichord suite no. 11 in D minor, Book II (1727), is often called the Folía by Händel, although it actually is not a Folía. Sounds very well on a clavichord.

    • @theclavierist
      @theclavierist  2 роки тому +1

      It is a great piece for clavichord! I didn't know about it being often called 'Folia'. I wonder if that is because people could improvise (or simply prepare and play) more variations on the main theme. Do you know recordings where someone does that? I am now curious :-)

    • @HarpsichordVinylGallery
      @HarpsichordVinylGallery 2 роки тому +1

      @@theclavierist Apparently my reaction was deleted since I put an url in it. Some 25 years ago I started a page in an effort to list all derivations and interpretations of the Folía theme in music with the active help of visitors. However, there was a Tsunami of Folías in those 25 years, that I stopped maintaining the page. One of the spin-offs was 'similar music like the Folías'. So this Sarabande of Händel surfaced pretty soon and in all sorts of variations, genres and instruments. It was mainly made popular in an orchestral version with the successful film Barry Lyndon, but there are also versions in dance music, hip-hop, organ, guitar, lute etc next to the original harpsichord version. And even in that harpsichord version there is lots of variety, since not all the thrills are written out. The theme was also used in several commercials and in other films. If you search for "Some similar variations like La Folia" you will find that inventory of similar music in alphabetical order under the letter H(ändel). However, I never heard a version for clavichord, and it suits very well indeed, so congrats. These are fascinating things in the collective memory of composers and listeners alike. We call them earwig (in Dutch 'oorworm'). Songs that will not leave the body once you have heard it.

      @@HarpsichordVinylGallery UA-cam has done that to me before! I have found the page, will dive into it, thanks! This is definitely an 'oorworm' :-) Handel on the clavichord is certainly something I would like to explore more at some point.

    L'introspezione del brano è totale senza aggressività ma solo condivisione della sfera emotiva della galassia musicale contenuta nel brano.

    Dear Mr Bellicanta, would you be so kind sending me a copy of your notes for this piece? I will then try plaing it on my instrument. Bernhard from Vienna.

    • @theclavierist
      @theclavierist  2 роки тому

      Hi Bernhard, can you give an email address where to send it to? I simply played the notes from the score. I wrote some fingers down and that's it, there are not many embellishments and I did them as I played.
