Thank you Bjorn for the reviews on the Kona. They really helped with deciding to buy our Kona EV, If you can get past the wait its an awesome great little car.
It really is an excellent car. Too bad they can't make more of them. Once the super fast charging infrastructure is rolled out and the battery manufacturing industry catches up with demand in the mid 2020s, the speed at which people will switch to EVs will be breathtaking.
Thanks so much for this review Bjørn! I have been so looking forward to your review of the Kona! You really do set the standard when it comes to EV reviews!
I Put a deposit on this car yesterday , i can't wait for it to arrive in Canada. Such a great time to be alive to enjoy elecric cars that are worth buying !!
I love this guy! He's so thorough and.... Intense! You can tell he's living it and lovin it! As for the car.... Amazing job from Hyundai. Slightly compromised and not perfect, but it seems to be a 'must-have toy' that I have to have.
SCC stand for Smart Cruise Control - basically adaptive cruise control. The response time refers to the 'quickness' of the distance and speed adjustment.
You can reinsert the false bottom in the trunk at a lower position after removing the foam inserts. There’s an alternate ”rail” for it built in (even visible in the video).
I had my first test drive of this thing today. Drove some 150 km, and it worked perfectly for me. I´m having a hard time returning this car tomorrow. There´s no going back. My current ICE turned obsolete. Have already ordered one way before, I just hope it won´t take long to have it delivered!
Thanks for the review Bjorn - saw the Kona at the Denver Auto Show this year and really liked it - was intrigued that a full electric version was coming.
Thx Björn, for the Video, now I think about ordering a Kona. For the LKA, in most countries at least in the European union, self driving Features are only for assistance, so9 it is mandatory, that the Driver allways keeps Control over the Vehicle by law.
I loved the review .. waiting for it to be available in Helsinki.... we are always the last one to get every thing.... Already pre-ordered Model 3 but now its taking ages...
Im think this will be a huge success. Well done Hyundai & well done the test driver. It was informative & seems unbiased. looking forward to part 2 with i will watch now, thanks...............
We’ve bought new Kona 1.6 turbo . We did test drive Honda HRV, Mazda CX3, CX5. All these vehicles are way behind. Acceleration, handling, appearance, smooth ride, transmission shifting are perfect compare to all above. I think Kona one of the best in small SUV class.
I think that Hyundai have been very clever with this vehicle. You need to carefully identify your target market when looking at what features will suit. I see this car as being for single occupant use. So some of your criticisms, while valid, will not be a concern for the buyer. Things such as rear seating roominess and a flat cargo area. Still, it’s a great review Bjorn.
Thanks Bjorn for this and the race. it's too small for me, the Kia Niro is 200mm longer so that's about the same as the Renault Scenic I want to replace. Who would have thought 200mm would cut the range by 50miles. Looking forward to the Niro tests.
Thank you for that amazing review! Can't wait to get my hands on one and film the charging from 0-100% on a 175kw charger. My nearest hyundai dealer still doesn't know when he will get one.
Hej Bjorn, You are doing a great job! I really like it as I have just bought a kona-electric and I learn a lot of things from you. But here is an information I want to help you with. You do not need to buy any specific instrument to count the decibels inside the car. You just need to download an app from the internet at your smart phone. Just search for anything like: "decibel counter", and it will give you many options to download from. I hope I did something good for you, as you have helped me so much! (Adonis the Greek)
I don't think we are that far out. I think by 2025 the batteries will come down in price enough where electrics will start to make more sense than ICE cars.
Am I the only one that still like a manual control for the seat slide? When I clean the back seat area or need more room for an adult to climb in between the kids seats I can slide the passenger or driver seat forward in half a second. With electric you have to sit and wait for it to slowly glide forward.
The nice thing about electric seat adjusts, and steering wheel tilt/telescope is that you can save the positions in driver profiles. Then when someone adjusts your stuff you can get it back to where you like it with a single button push. I love this feature.
Colin Fox Yeah that's not a bad feature but the wife never adjusts the seat except moving it forward. Quarter of a second later I'm back to my usual seating position. Memory mirror placement would be good though.
Thank you for the review, it will be long a dream car for me, as its not really affordable for the most of people in Poland, but it is a good price\value EV. Can't wait to see only EV's on the roads.
It is indeed. Looks like a great car, better than the Leaf. Still wonder what the lead times will be when it becomes available over here. Hyundai told me it won't hit Belgium until somewhere in September. :(
I've been to the dealership and ... surprise,surprise... they don't sell to private individuals. ONLY FOR self-employed people. ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? And the ministers complain that environmentally friendly cars aren't sold in Belgium. Budget with premiums of 5 million euros and only 600.000 of it is used up ... well if you can't buy them ... sad, very sad .... Hyundai can put their Kona, and others, in their ....( you know, where it is dark) .... !!!!!!!
Hi Björn. Great review. Like to see the LFA tomorrow. Korean reviews let already see this is the real hands off/auto mode without the beeping that you need to hold hands at the steering wheel. Now you only let us see the LKA probably because of the limited time.
Great review! Regarding the audio test, you should try to test it while driving too next time. I have an Ioniq, and the road noise while driving really drains out the sound from a mediocre sound system.
This car could be a total winner but I wonder if they can keep up with orders. Golf had to stop taking orders because they couldn't meet the demand. I'm going to look at one of these, it'll do most of my daily driver needs with ease and cheaply. Nice. Oh and Bjorn is a funny boy.
Most will use polarized sunglasses when driving to remove reflection. Also removing the HUD reflection. Could you do a polarized sunglass test next time to test this out?
look forward to hearing how loud the road and wind noise is.. and also know more about the whine noise from the front motor.... for me that is very important.
I drive a 2014 Volt right now. My next car will for sure be full EV. The Kona EV has me sold so far. I'm surprised at how heavy it is though. The Chevy Bolt only weighs 3,500lbs (1587kg). And both the Kona EV and Bolt have similar dimension and battery size.
Not sure if you know about this, and just a tip. When measuring if you pull about 30cm (or more if it's a big area) more than you need, you can then bend the tape up the side of what you are measuring and then you can just look at the number closest to the side/wall and not have to mess around this looking at the length of the tape roller thing.
Much easier to add the length of the tape. I was just doing it so my viewers didn't misunderstand and think that I didn't know how to use the measuring tape. Just look at all the smartasses who wanted to lecture me in this video: ua-cam.com/video/PHOtbsesCy0/v-deo.html
The fossil Kona I have tested a while ago is smaller than a Golf inside. In the Golf I can sit behind myself without problems and I’m 186 cm. In the Kona I can‘t. So the Kona is as large as a Polo or even smaller. The Kia Niro also has way more room inside.
Is it just me, or is there a TON of dead space all around the screen? I don't mean the plastic bezel. I mean the actual screen itself seems to have a 1/2 inch border, all around.
This EV will be a best seller i think. :)
Cant wait to see some on the German road.
You predicted very well!
A really useful review. If the Kia Niro is almost the same car but a little bigger, I think I'd be buying the Niro.
Wow, an EV non-Tesla with settings of the charging limit!! I really was looking for it! Thank you Bjorn!
Thank you Bjorn for the reviews on the Kona. They really helped with deciding to buy our Kona EV, If you can get past the wait its an awesome great little car.
That range is just insane!
It really is an excellent car. Too bad they can't make more of them. Once the super fast charging infrastructure is rolled out and the battery manufacturing industry catches up with demand in the mid 2020s, the speed at which people will switch to EVs will be breathtaking.
And the speed at which electric companies will apply new taxes to recompensate the loss of selling fuel will also be breathtaking ; )
installation of solar panels once electricity price increases will be also breathtaking
Lol.... They already apply taxes to them here in the EU. They will apply anual taxes as well for solar panels. Don´t you worry.
I live in EU, where are these so called taxes on solar panels you re talking about? Because all I see is incentives for renewables
Thanks Bjorn, the Kona appears to be another important step in the advancement of affordable EVs.
Thanks so much for this review Bjørn! I have been so looking forward to your review of the Kona! You really do set the standard when it comes to EV reviews!

What a fantastic, thorough review. I wish you could review every car I'm interested in buying! 😁
SCC stand for Smart Cruise Control - basically adaptive cruise control. The response time refers to the 'quickness' of the distance and speed adjustment.
Very nice car. Definitely expands from commuter to weekend or long trip vehicle.
"In case your head is not aligned" I love your phrases :-)
Bjorn, another great detailed review and actually putting in serious seat time to check range for us and share. Thank you!
10:01 "A Leaf just pulled over here. A new Leaf. Yeah, I hope your battery is not cooked." - that was harsh :)
haha that part killed me lol
Thanks, Bjorn. A very comprehensive look at the Kona EV. Can't wait to get my hands on one.
Yes! Thanks Bjorn Ive been really looking forward to this! Great review Bjorn, its looking great so far! pt 2 here we go.
Having done 6500k in my own Kona I re watched this video and your comments are all bang on. Well done
And how is it after 2 years? Should I buy a used Kona, used Zoe or wait for Dacia spring?
You can reinsert the false bottom in the trunk at a lower position after removing the foam inserts. There’s an alternate ”rail” for it built in (even visible in the video).

nice test thanks waiting for my 3 it's like driving in heaven
Looks like a very good car for the price. I love how much optional equipment is in the test car.
This is the range I want in my first electric car. Anything less ain't gonna work for me.
Give this man the views and likes he deserves
Thanks for the review Bjorn - saw the Kona at the Denver Auto Show this year and really liked it - was intrigued that a full electric version was coming.
Oh yes!!! Let’s race it to Trondheim tomorrow!!! 😎
This car is fantastic! Long range, affordable und good quality. A game changer!
this car is a breakthrough of the century
"My head is not aligned" lol-subscribed!
Good video, I really enjoy your style of video. You are very objective in your reviews.
Bjorn abaut big console with buttons this is the most beatiful thing in KONA EV !
Thanks for the extensive report!
you crack me up with your accent and american vernacular.... excellent review!
5:37 LOL Bjorn's comment of the year :D
Janis Straupenieks 🤣🤣🤣
Thx Björn, for the Video, now I think about ordering a Kona.

Great review! Can't wait to get these in Canada
thanks for confirming that the cheaper, smaller (but longer) Ioniq is the right choice for me :-)
Looks like a great all round car !
Im think this will be a huge success. Well done Hyundai & well done the test driver. It was informative & seems unbiased. looking forward to part 2 with i will watch now, thanks...............
Now I appreciate more the menus/buttons simplicity in the Model 3, all of that scattered user interface is in one place, genius.
Thanks Bjorn! I’m going to wait for this to be released here in CA in the US and grab it. Awesome review.
Thankyou Bjorn, as good as I wished for so far. On to part 2.
first one :-) so many thx björn, we in germany are waiting for this car.
Mark - Both the Bolt and the Kona use LG drivetrains, right? Compared to Tesla they are both kind of crappy.
I just went from my Sonata to a Tesla model 3. Holy crap I do NOT miss all those buttons.
Best reviews of this guy Bjorn. Super.
I like his reviews very much.
Congrats in Canada we still have to wait a few months to drive it
Thanks for your effort Bjørn
Never thought I would like a Hyundai, but I like this one... :-)
Really good job dude, excellent video!! I really liked the review

(Adonis the Greek)
It's not accurate.
Nice honest review. Thanks for sharing. 👍
This is a great great car. Best buy for 2020 imo
I want one of these I love suvs and big crossovers and it's electric it makes it better.
we in Belarus are waiting for this car
Try polarising glasses to reduce road and windscreen glare. You will love it!
Great video ,looking forward to it s arrival in CANADA. BEST
That's a beautiful range and with solid state batteries on the way which will double that range I see EVs taking over by 2030-40.
I don't think we are that far out. I think by 2025 the batteries will come down in price enough where electrics will start to make more sense than ICE cars.

I miss the windows where u got to crank it down. especially in winter when its froze shut

Thanks a lot for this test
This car seems like a no-brainer to me
It is indeed. Looks like a great car, better than the Leaf. Still wonder what the lead times will be when it becomes available over here. Hyundai told me it won't hit Belgium until somewhere in September. :(
I go to the dealership tomorrow for further information ... prizes etc ... :-) if its not too warm ... I'm melting now
SCWfan06 agreed. If they can keep availability up seems like an easy car to say yes to.
I've been to the dealership and ... surprise,surprise... they don't sell to private individuals. ONLY FOR self-employed people.
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Good to look at , great range , acceptable space , yeah it's a great first iteration of a fully blown EV that doesn't come with a lifetime debt :D
Love the instruments. Like a regular car, nit a spaceship like a Tesla.
Hi Björn. Great review. Like to see the LFA tomorrow. Korean reviews let already see this is the real hands off/auto mode without the beeping that you need to hold hands at the steering wheel. Now you only let us see the LKA probably because of the limited time.

great review as always Bjorn , many thanks
thank you for all the information. good wishes from Nepal.

Excellent review of a very interesting electric car.
Well done mate.Ordered already :)
I've been looking into a tesla alternative for a while and this review is really good tbf, thanks!
Thank you this helped me decide
5:39 I always get a laugh in your videos. Thank you.
You're so funny testing those speakers 🤣
Best reviewerr. Bro. Love from india
I love this color!!🤩

software and battery of kona in the chassis of the ioniq + app support and connectivity and it is a real killer car.
Most will use polarized sunglasses when driving to remove reflection. Also removing the HUD reflection. Could you do a polarized sunglass test next time to test this out?
I've got a cheap little HUD from Aldi connected to my i30 and my polarised sunnies don't remove the HUD's reflection from view.
look forward to hearing how loud the road and wind noise is.. and also know more about the whine noise from the front motor.... for me that is very important.
6:20 why has the screen a black border around it, seems as the displayed infotainment stuff is not in fullscreen...
Nice review of an interesting EV. Thanks.

They need to update the ioniqs interface to this one
I getting one now, hopefully November here in New Zealand RHD
Great!!
Better learn the charge rate well at the different SOC. Hopefully you will be using this in the race. Thank as always for the informative videos.
No need to learn much. It goes full speed up to 74.5 % SoC and then drops to 35 kW (which is still ok).
The back armrest on the right hand side looks like it was damaged? The one that goes down when you flatten the back seats.
Timestamp?

Gerd Bremer the new polo is actually bigger inside xD
Very nice car
"This is the first time I tried Kona" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 that's hilarious in my language 😅😅
Verdade!!! lol
Can’t wait to get into kona every day I’m goning to love it!!!!
Is it just me, or is there a TON of dead space all around the screen? I don't mean the plastic bezel. I mean the actual screen itself seems to have a 1/2 inch border, all around.
I have notified the same thing. I guess the software was designed for s smaller screen estate. I guess it needs a software update to fix that issue.
When the test guy says "need to do higher speed to drain the battery, this is taking way too long", it's a good car
I hit the LIKE button because of "...in case your head is not align..." at 31:00 LOL. But overall, nice informative video.
