Thanks for sharing the journey, hard to believe its been 2 years. The way I look at biblically, is that God does not cause evil and suffering (His nature actually makes it impossible for Him to cause evil). But He does allow it to happen. And He already knows it's going to happen and He uses it for His purposes and plan. We can't see all of that timeline so it is very difficult for us to understand, but God is outside of time, He sees past, present and future. That is also difficult for my feeble human brain to wrap my head around...

+Bill Thompson Two years is SO hard to believe! Thanks for sticking with us, Bill! I agree with most of what you said; that’s the stance I share as well, even though I didn’t make it quite as clearly as I thought I did here. Thanks for commenting on that! And honestly, I find Isaiah 55:8-9 extremely comforting regarding your last point. I’m sure you know it, but for anyone reading who may not:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.“
When I find myself trying too hard to “figure out God” (an impossible task, of course), I remind myself of that verse and realize that I’m allowed to love theology and study it deeply, but it doesn’t matter how much I study, His thoughts and ways are ALWAYS above mind, and I’m okay with that, because His are also always better.
