- On a perfect summer evening we are in Dearborn Michigan watching a pair of CN freights work under the old concrete arches of the DT&I. These arches are from a failed electrification project almost 100 years ago. The second train had a Grand Trunk painted GP38-2 for power.

Nice to hear stick rail singing
I've lived here all my life; these arches are right behind my home. The arches were once used to carry electrical current for the trains at the time. Several years ago, they started to tear down the arches which caused an uproar in the neighborhood. After a lot of determination, we got them to stop and what you see is what we were able to save. It's about a miles worth. But it's part of our past that's why it mattered. I've lived here for 70 years and just love the sound of the railroad, especially at night.
I'm glad they didn't tear them down glad to see then in Allen Park and other places to Flat Rock Yard, we should always remember the history of Great Railroad times in history
Inworked for the Indian & Ohio railroad and we bought the old DTI railroad from Flat Rock Michigan to Cincinnati.
That track is between the Ford Rouge complex in Dearborn and Flat Rock Yard. It was electrified back in Henry Ford ownership era in 1920s. Foundations still in place on points south but overhead never installed. Loads of F-150s and Lightnings. Surprised to see 89 ft box cars still in use.
The 86ft box cars are all over in Detroit still see them every where
The D,T,&I ran behind my grandpas farm in Flat Rock! Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures from back then.
Fantastic video
You could tell this line used to be electrified as look at those overhead catenary poles
This has been known for decades..
What railroad owns the old Detroit, Toledo, and Iornton?
The DT&I was merged into the GTW which are all now by Canadian National CN
Hi and thanks for posting. On the second Train, third car (after the two Boxcars) there was a Car I have not seen before: GATX WRWX 407006, which small and had Valancing and Handrails to each end. Is this just a greatly modified Cab used as a Shoving Platform - or something else, please?
That is a modern built steel coil car. That is the newer design being used to replace old cars. Under the covers are steel coils
@@MichiganCentralLines Hi, thanks. It must be the camera angle and I couldn't make it out properly. I can see the Lifting points for the Cover and the Platforms are probably for ease of use and improved Safety.
What is the purpose of those archways? They appear to be concrete.
OMG🥹🥹🥹🤩🤩🤩 you found a real running GTW Engine still running along the rails thank you so much from a GTW fan of more than 50years
