@yamahonkawazuki I think you watched the right one, its just that there are 6,8,10,12 and 14 cylinder versions of the same engine. its amazing that they can make something so large!
The hydraulic tools are 4 piston that screews down on the bolts, and pressurised with around 700bar (aprox 10000psi). So it is enougth pressure on the top.. At my work we have a couple of wartsila v16, it's fine machinery..
I say, a heavy duty tune up :) , Keep up the good work. 7500 KW ? , how much was the original figure? BTW: This new UA-cam comment thing and UI just sucks !
@douro: If this actually is the Wartsila...it's the largest engine on earth at 72ft by 42 ft. But it doesn't really look like it. THis video might be mislabeled.
its small actually, they use a torque multiplier on a 3/4" airgun with an adjustable torque clutch on the multiplier,no need for 15 foot long torque wrenches, also I think you'll find the torque settings arent that huge, probably 70-80ft-lbs no more,
@traxxasmaxx33 you arent kidding lol. i am envious of the ppl who work on them. you dont get a true feel for the size. until you go INSIDE it. or where 1 piston weighs more than most cars
This is not the biggest, but still impressive. For the biggest marine diesel engine, search for Wärtsilä-Sulzer RTA96-C (which has 20 foot piston rods and produces 95000 hp). Still, I bet even this engine would be nice in a hot rod, if you could build one to actually carry it, or have tarmac that could stand the weight. The Packard-Bentley Maven has a 42 liter torpedo boat engine, and the BMW Brutus a 46 liter aircraft engine. Crazy machines, but fun to watch.
@mhaight Wartsila makes several engines in different sizes and configurations. But yes the Wartsila-Sulzer RTA 96C 14 cyl. is the biggest engine in the world. but this is definitely not it.
all bolts "stretch" its tq rating is 75% of its yield. 80ft lbs isnt shit, we pull 600-1000ft/lbs on the steam turbines in our boats and they arent 1/4 the size of this beast.... look at the fastener size, they are almost 2"!!! 80ft lbs would be finger tight to those bad boys!
The bolts used to hold the heads down are standard bolts, not the stretch type of bolt used on all alloy high reving car engines,
This is actually quite small for a ship's engine...

@traxxasmaxx33 i just watched the video on that. it is HUGE. but was mentioned as a 12 cylinder. were they wrong?
Great Video...
What kind of modifications have they done? Could you tell me some details about this engine and about the ship? Thank you!
Piston and liner change, you can see it in the video

Damn! I thought the heads on my Dodge were heavy.

When and where this has been recorded?
@Viper254 yeah but the thing would have to be fricken huge to get the gears, torque, and speed to turn it

@Viper254 its possible withe the right gear ratio from the crank
to the flywheel, (basicaly like a giant single speed transmission)
LOL that's a big engine :D
does it develop 95000 hp at the crank?
No at the wheels
excelente
i wonder who gets to tention down the head...?that would be a big tention wrench!!!..lol.
I work on RTA 58'S and RNF68'S this engine is a medium speed small
imagine having to crank start that
@mhaight Wartsila makes several engines in different sizes and configurations. But yes the Wartsila-Sulzer RTA 96C 14 cyl. is the biggest engine in the world. but this is definitely not it.
I bet I could fit that in my truck

ive worked on that type of engine once
ЧП. Механик упал в картер ) :))))
70-80ft lbs on head bolts? lol are you insane. my honda's head bolts get pulled down tighter than that!!
It's a wrenchhead's wet dream..lol..
Medium Speed engine
