these videos make up for the lack of a normal mom in my life. i miss out on a lot of the things people get with their parents and your videos always help me fill in that gap. thank you for being the cool mom of asmr!
Just wanted to say thank you for your videos. I have been hospitalized with a serious skin infection. It so hard to sleep, but your videos help. Once again thank you
Im obsessed with these type of things! My old Furnace was from Sears 1980 and it hurt my soul when we had to replace it! Now it only lives in my memory.
im in a long distance relationship and sometimes when he can’t fall asleep on the phone with me, i turn to Mary’s videos for comfort when i cant sleep without him🥺
This is so nostalgic from my childhood! Another nostalgic book series from around that same era was called "I Spy" - they were hardcover books with beautiful pictures of beautiful items and you had to find all the hidden stuff in each photo. They were very common in doctors & dentist waiting rooms (next to the wooden beads on th wire track toys), would love to see video of you reading these books ( if you are still around)
I'm old enough to remember wired remotes. We still thought that was something. My parents also had a stereo cabinet that was as long as a couch and about as heavy as a refrigerator. And all it had in it was a record player, an 8-track player and an AM/FM radio tuner.
“How to clean your mouse balls.” ::giggling uncontrollably beside my spouse who is trying to sleep and is probably wondering what the heck I’m listening to at night.”:: 😂 😂
I always liked your channel but I had no idea that you were after my heart! I love finding and restoring electronics from this particular time period. I always believed that the best quality and aesthetics were from the mid 1980s for home gadgets. V.C.R.s particularly. I own a higher end version of the machine that you pointed out at 34:29. The version that I have has four heads and Dolby stereo. I bought it from Goodwill for $6.44 and it would not play a tape or rewind for that matter. I replaced all of the belts and the idler and got the deck to fully function. Very nice machine.
Having the Sears V.C.R. plugged in on it's own would make a good AMSR video. The machine uses a massive linear block step down transformer and it makes a satisfying hum. I actually put my ear to it before sleeping every night as the tone that it makes is so soothing. Listen to that electricity being converted. Hummmmmmmmmmmmm.
So I just discovered these videos in your vast playlists… oh my when that catalog came in the mail or jcpenney nothing else mattered until I went through the whole book. I just turned 5 when that book came out. Now I remember with jcpenney you ordered from any catalog you had to go to specific places and pick them up there besides the one in-house…. Did you have a service merchandiser????
Omg i’d really appreciate it if you do sell this on ebay if you can send me the link for the listing for this as I’d be interested in taking a look and maybe buying. Can probably tell that I like old stuff and tech 😜 I also have a top loading VCR like you mention! Love the vids btw! I can’t sleep without one of your videos going!
I'd love to be more in depth, but sometimes it is better being straight to the point, so simply put..... You are amazing. I love your accent, content, videos, everything. You are a lovely lady too ( my humble opinion ) Thank you for everything you do, keep it up. Much love from Sheffield, UK
I member my c64 with a c-casette player. Hight tech stuff right there. Funny thing happened @work last week. I was super hyped when i saw a listing for a c64 and my coworler in his 20' was like "i have never heard or saw a commondore computer' felt old
Pretty sure we had that TV at 21 minutes in, haha, the one in the big cabinet. I always thought they were fancy, and was sad when TVs no longer came in huge oak cabinetry, haha.
According to a money inflation calculator, $750 in 1985 is equal to $1,861 in today's dollars!!! That's a boatload for a computer that does less than a modern calculator lol. Now Mary, please explain how you wash your mouse balls. Asking for a friend. 😂
Mary Lou retton was on everything in those days.....what do you mean those days? She hasn't gone anywhere. These days, she's on the radio 52,000 times a day talking about her stupid menopause.
I was a Senior in high school and totally remember this issue!

Would love to see the appliances section. Also, would there be a fur coat section? If so, that would cool too.

My favorite part of the day ♡♡
Ya! It the wish book!
C128 base CPU only would equate to $1850 and about $2200 for the bundled expansion setup.
If it makes you feel any better, I chuckled at every one of those mouse balls.
This brings back memories from my childhood. I always got excited when the Wish Book came out!
1985 that was a good year for me I was 8 years old
Pretty sure we had that TV at 21 minutes in, haha, the one in the big cabinet. I always thought they were fancy, and was sad when TVs no longer came in huge oak cabinetry, haha.
Big console TV price in modern dollars: $1,390.
Less fancy one equates to $993.
2nd page of consoles: Less fancy console = $1241
Much fancy console on the 2nd page(s) of consoles = a whopping $2185 in modern dollars!
The year I was born
The price for that Commodore, all in, equates to about $1600 and change (in 2021 dollars.)
