He sent her a basket of gourmet cookies. There is a video clip of this somewhere on UA-cam when Jessica had her first child. Jessica's family and the interviewer were showing the hospital room where Jessica gave birth, and talking about everything concerning the birth, and then they mentioned that Nick gave cookies as a congratulatory present.

Whether she's cover or not I feel like it's not her fault... Nick sent her a gift, maybe on behalf of him and Vanessa, and I doubt he told Vanessa. He probably just did it cause when knew Vanessa would be annoyed. It's likely Jessica didnt know he never told Vanessa and just said it and now that the whole thing blew up she's trying to cover for him. It's not her fault nor her job to do so. She's just trying to make the situation better for him and that to me is admirable.

Say what you want to say I believe that Nick STILL loves Jess, she will always be in his heart however you grow up and move on. I think Jess still has love for a Nick too and now that she is grown probably regrets they split. I think they still low key communicate with each other, I think Nick brought her a gift from him but probably didn’t think Jess would mention it in her book.

I think she goofed with her words and tried to make it sound like there is no tension between them anymore. It bit her in the ass here but no big deal. Great audio book. I really do feel she was telling her truth. Sure, there is 2 sides to every story and she got to finally tell her side. It doesn't paint her in the best light either, she knows that. I got a lot of closure from this book as a fan who was wondering what was going on behind the cameras.
I find it very strange that we didn’t see that part of the interview where JS told Hoda Nick and Vanessa bought her a gift. Hoda said JS mentioned it to her over and over and over again. Where is that part of the interview??

In the grand scheme of things, all that this “gift basket debacle” produced was publicity. Publicity for Jessica’s book, and publicity for Nick and Vanessa’s new show. I think it was awkward for all parties involved.
Some say Hoda shouldn’t have gone there, since Nick and Jessica have been divorced for years. Some say Vanessa shouldn’t have said anything, because it made her come across as petty and jealous. Some say Jessica shouldn’t have mentioned it to Hoda, because it could stir the pot.
I think it is awkward for everyone involved. I think Nick sent it and put Vanessa on the card, without her knowing, because he probably just wanted to show maturity, that this was obviously someone who was once a big part of his life, and he knows the show put them both on the map, and by sending this gesture he wanted to show her and the media that all is well, he is happy for her, and that’s that. He didn’t tell Vanessa, because he knew it might stir up unnecessary drama at home.
From Vanessa’s side, I could see why she was peeved that he would send this without her knowing, because she feels he went behind her back, when it wasn’t that big of a deal. I could see though how, as the wife, you want to keep the past in the past, and she is sick of her husband and Jessica still being brought up together after all these years.
From Hoda’s side, she is just doing her job as an entertainment news anchor. I mean, the timing of Jessica’s book and Nick and Vanessa’s new show is overlapping and they are both on the publicity circuit. Since Newlyweds is what Jessica and Nick are mostly known for, and they are now doing publicity for their own separate things at the same time, you can expect an entertainment news host to bring something up. The only part that was unnecessary to me, is when Vanessa said “we didn’t send it”, and Hoda said “maybe Nick did”. She probably shouldn’t have said that, because it would have made Vanessa more annoyed. That comment was stirring the pot a little.
I think Jessica’s part in this is also pretty innocent. I think her motivation is the same as Nick’s motivation. They know they will be asked about each other, specifically when they both are promoting something at the same time. Her comment to Hoda that she was sent a gift when she had her first child and was appreciative, was just meant as an example to show how both Nick and Jessica have moved on in a civil manner and wish each other well and that’s it.
I think this part here where she backpedals, is because she didn’t mean to come off as if she wanted to stir anything up between Nick and Vanessa and wants to take the high road. Although by saying “I don’t know where it came from” when it came from her in the first place, just puts her in a more awkward situation, because it is obvious that she was sent something. I would have kept the part where she said her daughter said that “daddy is so much cuter” out though.
She's covering up, all that was needed to say was a yes or no instead she tried to get around it and still thought for a moment at the end when she said no because the interviewer basically cornered her.

In my opinion, it seemed as if Vanessa was the only one unaware of the gift and “she” denied ever sending it. The only two people who know the actual truth are Nick & Jessica. Nick sent the “Cookie Basket”, to the hospital. There is confirmation from 2012 in the press. See Article. Nick had card signed “Congratulations from Nick & Vanessa!”.
Nick apparently didn’t tell Vanessa. Fast forward 8 yrs...Hoda asked Jess during their interview about her book, “How is your relationship with Nick now?”
Jess says “We don’t really see each other, but we’re in a good place. They sent me a nice gift when I had my oldest daughter.” Then says “We (She & Eric) sent them one as well when they had their first baby”. (Vanessa may not be aware of this, because Nick or his assistant may have removed the card, before Vanessa saw the gift, who knows?)
Fast forward about a week ago...Hoda is interviewing Nick & Vanessa about their reality show & asks Nick if he’s read Jess’s book. He says “No, he didn’t know about it!”, etc. (I’m sure Nick’s publicist was aware & read excerpts about Nick & told him what Jess said about him in the book. That’s their job! Especially when they are both doing interviews about their reality show & Jess is on her book tour. That’s not a coincidence!) Then Hoda says “It’s really nice you guys get along. Jess said you guys sent her a very nice gift...Vanessa jumps into the conversation & throws some shade, saying “What?!” “We didn’t send her a gift!” “Idk her address!” & “Well, Thanks!’ to ‘whoever’ sent the gift for us!”. Nick tries to calm Vanessa by holding her hand. He never denies he sent the gift, but tries to play it like it’s news to him. He asks Vanessa, “What did you send her?”. (“Nice save Nick!”)
Hoda then realizes Vanessa was not aware & tries to downplay it, but it’s too late. Later that day, Vanessa took to twitter blaming Hoda for being misinformed, etc.
The reality is, Nick’s too afraid to admit it to Vanessa, because she over reacts to anything about Jessica because she’s insecure. It had been 8 years ago. He figured Vanessa would never find out.
Now Jess knows that Vanessa never knew & Jess is lying to protect Nick. She doesn’t want to cause any problems in their relationship & with his family.
Jess was not drunk. She is in recovery & happy with her husband & kids. She said “Nick’s gift for me (Jess), is for him to be happy too!”

Exactly, some people are trying to make drama where there isn't one . It happened so long ago that everyone involved could be misremembering what happened. I even think it's possible that a gift could have been sent on Nick's behalf without him actually being aware of it which is why he probably just smiled.
These people have assistants/ personal shoppers who take care of day to day things . Sometimes it's just a relative whose getting paid.
Nick is not an A lister but in that industry everyone has to have an agent and someone who helps them keep track of their responsibilities and obligations.
Nick and Vanessa are Beautiful together. Vanessa may not be this big famous celebrity but Nick hit the jackpot with her, you can tell he is truly happy and became a real man with her. It takes the right person to do that.

Langy D Jess told Hoda in a separate interview, like a week or so prior,that they sent her a nice gift, at the hospital, when she had Maxwell. She said Eric & her returned the favor, when Nick & Vanessa had their first child too. She said “We don’t really see each other, but we’re on good terms!”, referring to the gift exchanges. The problem arose because Vanessa was never told about the “Cookie Basket” being sent & thought there was some sort of mistake. Hoda realized & tried to shut it down, but it was too late. The internet went crazy & now Jess is trying to cover for Nick. She truly doesn’t want trouble for him & his family. Vanessa wasn’t aware & she was throwing shade at Jess by saying “It wasn’t us! Idk even know her address!” “But ‘Thanks!’ to whoever sent it from us!” Nick had the card signed “Congrats from Nick & Vanessa”.

Definitely speaks to our insecurities as women. Can we not be happy for people? Speaking about an ex should not be this uncomfortable. Nicks new wife cringed and it just wasn’t a good sign of where they are as far as being secure with one another. I hope they can all put it behind them and have conversations about trusting one another and feeling secure. I think its especially hard when a woman feels like she is competing with another woman. Be that appearance, money status etc.

It's obvious she got a gift. In the beginning she gives an indirect answer and then trys to steer the subject in another direction. When Andy comes back to the question once more she hesitates and then says, " I don't know where that came from." That dould be taken as " I don't know how that statement I made about a gift came from," or it could mean "I recieved a gift claiming to be from them but now I don't know who it actually came from." or " I don't know where Hoda's claim came from ." Her answer could be construed in a few different ways as to leave a statement saying as no one is lying. She received a gift but feels badly now because of the backlash it caused. She is definitely trying to keep Nick out of the doghouse!!!!
