Ovens River fishing shenanigans with Brett

  • Fishing with Brett is always fun. What do you think pulled Brett's fishing rod into the river?
The Ovens River is looking good at the moment. It is a bit high, and still a bit off colour in it's lower reaches but on the whole it is looking quite good as we head towards Murray cod season.

Here’s also a cool fact, the broken from the weir up right past Benalla also has some gigantic brown trout that are naturally recruited I’ve been lucky enough enough to catch a fair few around the 3kg mark and I’ve fished the creek that flows into it that’s holds the main population and and can provide awesome sight fishing to both trout and the odd trout cod. 🎣

You telling Brett to watch your rod so it doesn't get pulled in was a brilliant foreshadowing of the tragic events to come! Having said that, there's a reason I use proper rod holders and not just lean my rods on logs haha! I'm far to distraction-prone to rely on my rods not being pulled in lol

    • @AndrewFishman

There is a reason I fish with my bail arm open. I learned the hard way. Lost a rod, replaced it, about 12 months later, lost that rod. THe rod I replaced that one with, I managed to break the tip last week. LOL. Not a good run for that little chain of rods. It has kept me off the water this past few days as it is my go to carp outfit, and while I have others, it just does not seem the same lol.

I have so many different types of rod holders, but no rod holder will stop your brother borrowing your $600 custom rod and $500 Shimano and flipping the kayak in the middle of Windamere dam though.....it hurt when he walked up soaking wet with an empty kayak lol

Some hilarious moments in this video. Just for the record I've lost 2 rods off the kayak and 2 from the bank. Now nearly always I put a right angled stick firmly planted in the ground and in between the rod and reel so if the rod does take off hopefully the stick might save it. And I set up my seat between the 2 rods so they're only an arms length away. No need to be up and down constantly. And lastly for fish size I've measured from rod tip down the rod to the various legal fish sizes and marked them accordingly with a paint pen, so all I do hold the fish up to rod for a quick measure. Sort of like a brag mat on your rod. And as for the carp that got away, he was nearly " beached as bro".
