Thank you again for taking a look at my builds! Based on your feedback over the last few weeks I've updated nearly all Toa to get rid of the flaws mentioned. Kopaka can swing his spear fine now, Pohatu's legs got friction and won't fall apart anymore. Gali's colors got more consistent and Onua got the Champion Pakari as his new mask to be more consistent with the others. I've get to zoom in on Tahu and fix his shoulders and add friction to Lewa's axe arm. But like you said, those are an easy fix. If you want I can send you the updated instructions for free so you can change the sets that have been updated. Let me know and thanks again for the great feedback!

Where did you get these kanohi? they look like fantastic remakes that blend their mata and nuva versions well, while also working with Metru heads? I'm sold.
Already just ordered the Tahu. I feel these are the sets that we would've gotten had Bionicle won the poll list. They look and feel like the originals but more modernized and it's really cool to have all the limbs as fully built pieces. The new parts are just the icing on the cake. Excellent review!
They are all pretty good looking, very complicated though, more reminiscent to titans than to normal sets. I'm not a fan of complicated designs myself, but I can't deny they are good.
Personally don't like any of these. I prefer a simpler update to the original designs than a totally new interpretation of them. All they really needed was increase in articulation in the knees, elbows, and neck. Although a few aspects I do like here is Gali's mask with the tubes, Onua's torso shape, Pohatu's additional accent colour, and just their overall differences in build and silhouette.
Also, they need same style of weapon attachement. We're either doing weapon as an arm extention, or weapon held in hand, but both looks just... Awful when together
everyone in the comments critisizing these sets looking too complex compared to the original toa mata. When G2 came out everyone was disliking the „simple and too smooth“ aesthetics of G2. I love bionicle and the whole community but sometimes I feel as if this community never is satisfied. IMO these sets look great and bring in a lot of character and some „life“ to the original toa mata blueprint, just my 2 Pennies.
1) everything will have criticism given to it because your not gonna please everyone and no one is at fault for that we all have our own tastes 2)there can be a balance struck with the simplistic style of g2 and these more detailed designs. The reason people some people did not like g2 was that g1 had this nice balance between the being detailed and intricate with this sense of simplicity. Meanwhile g2 thanks to using ccbs as a base looked far to basic with little in the way of that detail. Remeber ccbs iirc was heavily inspired by both mecha anime and the basic lego system. 3) continuing on from that i can see why people not liking these revamps is perfectly valid sometimes too much detail can feel overwhelming to look at and ultimately detract from a design look at some of yhe kingdom hearts designs on of the most common criticisms seen when look at them is that they are over designed but there are still plenty of people who like them though. Ultimately peoples critics on these builds are fine and i can see where they are coming from everyone has had plenty of time to develop their own idea on a good design for a new bionicle and that is inevitably going to lead to differences in opinions If you like them then thats fine and if some people dont like them thats fine too
First of all, this community is large, it's not a hive mind, everyone has different opinions. Also, realistically and aesthetically pleasingly distributed mechanical details (G1) are not the same as these over-designed and over-greebled builds. It's not just about "complexity".

What I wanted to point out is that I have the feeling, that there is a tendency within the bionicle community, to show something like an initial refusal to those who try to continue the „bionicle legacy“. I guess thats also one reason (out of numerous) why G2 was canceled. No matter what people do ist will never ne like the original, but maybe we should be more „open“ for new designes and ideas, support them and give them a chance to develop instead of cancelling them so early.

I agree. One of the things I loved about Gali was that she was a girl, but wasn't overly feminized. Not that feminine traits are bad, in fact I think they can be really fun... but they're very common. It's so rare to see a female character where their feminine body figure and stereotypical feminine behaviors aren't their defining traits. Gali was just like any other toa, defined not by her gender, but by her element.
Pohatu and Onua are my favourite but I don't really care for the others, especially Gali. She just doesn't look like Gali imo. They're all Impressive MOCs but they're just not my cup of tea
My MOC for Onua is the one I'm most proud of, my MOC of Kopaka just needs to feet from his Nuva figure to incorporate his skates, Tahu Nuva was modified using limited parts in my collection, Takanuva just needs a matching shoulder instead of the Nuva one, I turned Matau into a village elder, I turned Nuparu into a Matoran like I did with Kongu, and I came up with a new Rahi for Nuparu to ride.
Onua and Pohatu are best made from all of these. They feel like they were made later than other mocs when author learned what he can do with his design and improved it. Other revamps are tbh quite meh.
I wonder, if they look this good as a remastered toa mata; I wonder what the Bohrok could of looked like? A remastered Bohrok would be interesting. A giant version of the original so it can actually knock off the masks without looking up; a more cybernetic alien design and more teeth for it's fangs. That's not including the bohrok queens being so big, they could carry bohrok-va on their back like the original designs. But the bigger problem is keeping their head-snapping and ball features; which many moc's just skip because it's difficult.
11:30 there are some solutions: A) use a Technich Axle Connector Hub. B) I dont really recognize the shape of the hand, but you also may try slightly modifying it so B1) to use a Technic Pin Connector Hub with 1 Axle, B2) Technic Axis 2L with Cross Connector and B3) Technic Axle Connector Hub (might have to cut the 2 extra axles). The bars fit well with incredible friction in axle connectors and inside pins
These look cool but just have so many flaws that just don’t seem thought out, like the not being able to hold up weapons, stuff popping off at the slightest movement, stability issues etc. I feel a lot of these could have been fized by just thinking a LITTLE harder. I also personally very much dislike the custom printed parts and masks, especially the chest pieces on tahu kopana and lewa, they feel like total cop-outs.
They dont look like the mata, yes some alternate version or whatever but they are SO overdone... I mean they are cool, yes, but more as powered up versions from the evil Toa timeline, not as revamps. I do like how they are different though, especially Onua is looking proper sturdy!
Ok but.. can the masks be knocked off? Otherwise, theres no point for gear-functions. Might as well just go full pose-ability if theres no real play-function. The masks are pretty great design, though.

I admire how these models look, and how the gear function is incorporated into all of these. However, I feel like the aesthetics is not worth the copious amount of problems each model has. If these models were simpler, a lot of the problems could've been mitigated.
I honestly think tahu and lewa should be a bit taller and i dont really like the idea of a sword and axe hand vut these are still realy cool! The thing that i love about the mocs though is the custom masks!
I believe I've said it during individual rewievs, but lack of any pattern with hands and weapon mounting is driving me mad. Those are really great models, but hands... some are staying true to the game portrayl, some to the spirit of the set, and when they do, they look different every time. Also, give Kopaka back his gladius and simplify his spear. he would have strong roman vibe, and that would be cool
While it is a classic function, I think the gear function is a hindrance for these Toa,especially gor stop motion, also for Lewa and Kopaka, I recommend you make a shorter weapon, especially Kopaka who canonical uses a sword. Lewa just needs a shorter and lighter ax. Especially given the fact he is acrobatic, lighter weapons would work better.
Yeah the G2 sets are way better than these.. better poseability, nothing falls off, great playability, better and more thought-out designs, higher durability, better color schemes (I was always a pohatu fan, my first set being G1 pohatu mata, and this iteration of pohatu is so dissapointing to me)
I’m not a fan of these, especially Onua, Lewa, and Gali. They just kind of look very wrong to me. Onua’s exaggerated form isn’t doing it for me. Lewa is weirdly not stream lined and feels like a fusion of Lewa and the drawing of pre-mutation Karzahni. Gali exaggerated form also doesn’t fit in with the others well and I’m not a fan of the high-heels. The fact that so many parts of these are flimsy irks me too. Though only, I do I think if these were cal on their own, Gali is the best looking, though again it can’t hold the claws properly and the gear function honestly is too limited to the point where it might’ve been better to not even have it.
God I wish the community was harsher on builds that are as flimsy as these all around Also "Buy instructions in the description below" Me, who has screencapped various points of this video and has great skills as a MOCist: "No, I dont think I will".
The fact that they made Gali the "Girl Character" with high heels and boob armour kinda kills the whole thing, and to be honest I'm not a huge fan of these builds to begin with. Also, minor nitpick, but I also don't like that they had Gali's hooks as weapons. Because canonically, those hooks aren't weapons she holds. They are her actual hands. Speaking of weapons, WHY is Lewa's axe SO FREAKISHLY BIG? It is RIDICULOUS. It's like they deliberately added a bunch of extra pieces for "cool factor" I guess? But it just looks dumb, and wouldn't function well in combat either. The whole point of Lewa's axe was that it was small, light and compact. Something that could be swung and carried with ease and grace, and was as much a tool as it was a weapon. And WHY is it attached parallel to the forearm? On a more general note, I don't like how bulky they look, and frankly most of them seem very top heavy, with the ironic exception being Pohatu who is actually supposed to be hunched over. In Onua's case this actually works in his favor, but for the rest of them it looks like they all have a micro pelvis.
i really dont like them, the proportions look wierd, it looks too much overdetailed and the building technics are super unstable. Its cool to see people own interpretation of this guys but i would go with a more compact build
I like the looks for them. But Gali. Well take away the high heels, the Mata/Nuva line is meant to look tribal and somewhat primarive, the heels give her a modern look, and yeah i know, lady bionicle awooga, but heels dont really look good as swimwear or climbing. And the pipe/hoses look more like they'd get in the way in terms of posability. And her hand could have incorperated a sort of connection piece rather than just letting it jiggle around in her hands all willy nilly
this is my opinion of them: Tahu: he is too wide since he in theory is like the base body so it would be better a more average look to him, his height is fine and it would be better if he had a hand whilding a sword. Gali: although in general is fine, she being the tallest it doesn't fit her, just being one head taller than tahu is enought so she could mock tahu telling him shorty, last thing is she is unnecesary sexualised, just remove the boob pieces with a simpler chest piece and took off those high heels and she will still have her gracile, tall ballet dancer body type whithout needing to be so obious she is a girl. Lewa: i think lewa had to be the tallest and the thinest even thiner than gali, he is your tipicall 190cm guy weighting 50kg with lanky arms and legs who is great at acrobatic skills, the axe may be too heavy but also would be funny a lanky guy whilding a heavy weapon like if the axe is actually whilding him. Kopaka: he is too thin, would be better if he had an average body like i mentioned with tahu but taller being taller than gali but shorter than lewa, even making him slightly top heavier with the chest piece lewa have making the V shape but not too big, the spear fits him good but maybe with less detail since he is more into efficiency rather than fancyness. Pohatu: generally is great, althought i would make him shorter than tahu, in appearance i always think of pohatu as having the tipicall football player body type with a rectangular body and huge legs so having a wider hips would fit him and also being slightly wider overall. Onua: he is too aesthetic, rather than a bodybuilder he should had a powelifter/strongman body shape, so apart of having the widest shoulders he also had to have an even greater chest, a barrel thick waist and a wider hips to make him more of a square with a little accent on the shoulders just not to look like a wider pohatu, speaking of it onua should be the shortest of them all, he is like your tipicall gym beast who is less than 160cm making him like a mini tank. Finally just to say that this is how they would look based of a headcanon, also i love the color election
Am I the only person who thinks almost every original set looks infinitely better than “upgrades.” I find every MOC that is meant to like remake or update or upgrade an old set is always just waaaay too bulky and over designed.
90% not liking these even though they all look like they came from bionicle unlike g2 10% of the community getting mad at them in the comments because thee haters know they said g2 looked too simple you could easily fix these guys with some combinations and i dont even own any bionicle sets since i lost them :/ the only problem i have is gali is too tall compared to the big boys
They make a good team but as with a lot of MOCs, they don't evoke the Mata. Gali is more like a blue Roodaka.

I had to modify the older versions of Tahu, Onua, a d Kopaka just to better scale with the only three 2015 Toa that I have.

I would've wished for a more classic Hau design for Tahu. His mask looks more like his Nuva mask. But otherwise, they look fantastic! I love them!
They look good as a team, but they're way too fragile to be properly enjoyed- they look good aesthetically, but not so much functionally.

While impressive on their own nothing can capture that magic of the original sets, and these barely evoke those at all.

You can evel build a separate swappable pelvis for Pohatu without the gear function and swap them whenever you need.

Should make Toa mata revamp with 30MM and MF. Since 30MF will have bare face and mask.
I like the idea of revamping old bionicles but I ineviably have the feel that this ones doesn't meet my standards

Speaking of weapons, WHY is Lewa's axe SO FREAKISHLY BIG? It is RIDICULOUS. It's like they deliberately added a bunch of extra pieces for "cool factor" I guess? But it just looks dumb, and wouldn't function well in combat either. The whole point of Lewa's axe was that it was small, light and compact. Something that could be swung and carried with ease and grace, and was as much a tool as it was a weapon. And WHY is it attached parallel to the forearm?
On a more general note, I don't like how bulky they look, and frankly most of them seem very top heavy, with the ironic exception being Pohatu who is actually supposed to be hunched over. In Onua's case this actually works in his favor, but for the rest of them it looks like they all have a micro pelvis.
I like the masks and custom pieces, but they feel too MoC like, Also what they did to Gali is a crime

i really dont like them, the proportions look wierd, it looks too much overdetailed and the building technics are super unstable. Its cool to see people own interpretation of this guys but i would go with a more compact build

I like the looks for them. But Gali. Well take away the high heels, the Mata/Nuva line is meant to look tribal and somewhat primarive, the heels give her a modern look, and yeah i know, lady bionicle awooga, but heels dont really look good as swimwear or climbing. And the pipe/hoses look more like they'd get in the way in terms of posability. And her hand could have incorperated a sort of connection piece rather than just letting it jiggle around in her hands all willy nilly
this is my opinion of them:
Tahu: he is too wide since he in theory is like the base body so it would be better a more average look to him, his height is fine and it would be better if he had a hand whilding a sword.
Gali: although in general is fine, she being the tallest it doesn't fit her, just being one head taller than tahu is enought so she could mock tahu telling him shorty, last thing is she is unnecesary sexualised, just remove the boob pieces with a simpler chest piece and took off those high heels and she will still have her gracile, tall ballet dancer body type whithout needing to be so obious she is a girl.
Lewa: i think lewa had to be the tallest and the thinest even thiner than gali, he is your tipicall 190cm guy weighting 50kg with lanky arms and legs who is great at acrobatic skills, the axe may be too heavy but also would be funny a lanky guy whilding a heavy weapon like if the axe is actually whilding him.
Kopaka: he is too thin, would be better if he had an average body like i mentioned with tahu but taller being taller than gali but shorter than lewa, even making him slightly top heavier with the chest piece lewa have making the V shape but not too big, the spear fits him good but maybe with less detail since he is more into efficiency rather than fancyness.
Pohatu: generally is great, althought i would make him shorter than tahu, in appearance i always think of pohatu as having the tipicall football player body type with a rectangular body and huge legs so having a wider hips would fit him and also being slightly wider overall.
Onua: he is too aesthetic, rather than a bodybuilder he should had a powelifter/strongman body shape, so apart of having the widest shoulders he also had to have an even greater chest, a barrel thick waist and a wider hips to make him more of a square with a little accent on the shoulders just not to look like a wider pohatu, speaking of it onua should be the shortest of them all, he is like your tipicall gym beast who is less than 160cm making him like a mini tank.
Finally just to say that this is how they would look based of a headcanon, also i love the color election

Am I the only person who thinks almost every original set looks infinitely better than “upgrades.” I find every MOC that is meant to like remake or update or upgrade an old set is always just waaaay too bulky and over designed.
