Omg I just looked them up and they are??? gorgeous??? They're so colourful and eye-catching, just great, especially considering that they target a younger age group too.
My favourite covers are probably from the Spellslinger series by Sebastian de Castell (the UK ones anyway). Each is a wildcard design with the mc on top and another important character for that particular book below. Luckily enough the contents are actually good. Sure the first one was a bit slow but they get better and better. Defo a hidden gem in the YA world
I'm an illustrator so I'm so so happy to see illustrations being appreciated this much 😭 Recently I feel like there are less book cover jobs for illustrators and more for graphic designers who can also draw. Not all book covers need illustrations, but it makes me feel better to know there are people who appreciate illustrations done by people who specialise in them.
Spot on with An Enchantment of Ravens cover, they are the couple in that book (very cute fairytale kinda like Ghibli Howl's moving castle if you wanna read) (I have the paperback it's metallic). Spin the Dawn's author just released Six Crimson Cranes which also has a gorgeous UK cover.
Inkheart getting some love, you love to see it! I’m a longtime fan of the series (have the og crusty covers) and was given the first of the new versions as a gift by my sister and I was OBSESSED. I couldn’t stop looking at it until I snapped and bought the other two. They’re gorgeous, and at a closer glance you realize there’s lots of little details that allude to the plots without giving them away! Also, these books are one of those series that occupy a nebulous space between demographics for a variety of reasons so don’t worry about it! If anyone who hasn’t read them comes across this comment, please take this as your sign to read them because they’re SO good!
The best book covers I’ve ever seen are on Thailand’s harry potter 20 years anniversary box set. I really recommend everyone to look them up. They’re so well done, the illustrates are mind blowing and the details are *mwah* chef kiss. I also think it went viral when it was published.
I haven't read this book but the cover of "A magic steeped in poison" is soo dang pretty, I can stare at it for hours and still feel the need to admire it more
Yes, yes, yes, strange the dreamer! I don't buy books, I read them all online, but the cover is so pretty I had to buy it just to look at the cover anytime I want
the silence of the girls, the salt path and the 50th anniversary version of dune have amazing covers too🎠 all really clean but with a brilliant texture
The return of the Queen Divya G with these cover analysis vids!!! 😍❤ A rather old example I liked were the Rebel of The Sands trilogy cover, namely the ones that feel an like older illustration but with golden color in the details (ex. Book 1 is blue with showing a horse rider in a desert, Book 2 is purple showcasing the main city location, and Book 3 is red with flames and a few other things I can't remember rn).
I love the Inkheart covers with Cornelia's own illustrations of the letters the best. It just fits since it's a story about books and words. I think it was on the german original Tintenherz, but it came with that cover in my country as well.
BIG agree for all of these!!! i also adore the covers for ‘the mirror visitor’ series; theyre so detailed i could look at them for agesss and their solid backgrounds rlly just. seal the deal
Hands-down the hardcover editions of A Series of Unfortunate Events (I know it's not technically YA but I just HAD TO mention them). The overall graphic design and illustrations of these books are of the highest quality possible. I also really love the covers of Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden, I think they are incredibly well-fitting to the overall feel of this story.
@@itsdivyag i wanted to post a link to the cover I have, but youtube won't let me 😅 it's similar to that one, but like the whole front cover is just made of those little squares with illustrations and letters in them. And then the second book has slightly different illustrations in green and the third one in blue. And I always loved how similar they were, but still different hahah
I love the original covers of the Grisha trilogy. It's what got me reading them. I also love the original german covers of the ruby red trilogy (my favourite trilogy). German covers are in general very gorgeous :) The covers of the fire bird trilogy are also beautiful just like the covers of the Selection series
@@eb3310 I think you don't mean the new Hardcover ones right? They are black with silver Mockingjays on them. Simple and stunning :) so happy to have them on my bookshelf :D
literally the cover art in all the percy jackson (POJ and HoO) covers are beautiful and iconic!! i would also include night circus (i love the black, red, and white color palette), aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe, and the glass sentence by s.e. grove
FireKeepers Daughter has one of the best covers I've ever seen. It's simply gorgeous. But I think it doesn't fit the tone of the book well. The cover and title make the book sound like it's fantasy but it's actually mystery/thriller.
Joan He somehow got so lucky with covers, both of her books so far (descendant of the crane and the ones we're meant to find) have been INCREDIBLE! also have you seen the newer covers of spin the dawn duology? they're somehow even more stunning 😭

The Book of Tea duology (Magic steeped in Poison & A Venom Dark and Sweet) is one of my fave covers this year, as well as The Inheritance Games trilogy.
I haven't read this book, and can think of so many covers... But for some reason, this one popped into my head- the UK addition of Cinderella is Dead. I also love Ghosts of the Shadow Market; An Anthology of Tales cover (I'd say this one is my favorite right now).
Thank you for linking the illustrators you were able to find. Will definitely be checking out their work. One book I love the cover of but did not like the writing in was "Emergency Contact" by Mary H.K. Choi. I've really liked the covers of each of her books. Like you said, the yellow background of "Yolk" is so eye-catching, and the illustrations are beautiful. I've also heard good reviews for "Yolk" so I may give her a second try
I agree!! I'm not a fan of mary h.k. choi's writing but her book covers are some of the prettiest I've seen. If you read yolk let me know if you like it!! I'm planning to read it as well :)
I still like the first 4 pll book covers to this day. They deeefinitely aged for sure (that gigantic scribbly font ugh 😪), but I really enjoy the dolls motif (it became tiring and unoriginal after the first 4 though, since it kept repeating the " just the doll on a empty space" stuff).
Spare and Found Parts (the black and gold version) has to be one of my fave covers, it just works well with the content of the book and the whole book itself ist just beautifully designed!
The Dragon With a Chocolate Heart covers just give off magical feelings for me (specifically the cauldron cover). It's nice to see a pencil illustration when most covers are done digitally
There are so many covers I love! US editions of A Darker Shade of Magic, the connecting covers of the Percy Jackson books, His Dark Materials, and Juliet Marillier's covers!
Uprooted and Spinning Silver (Naomi Novik) both have eye-catching covers! Book is enjoyable if you like fables. Raybearer (Jordan Ifueko) is so stunning, the cover and book itself are peak fantasy
the thai 20th anniversary harry potter covers are incredible. i can't read thai, but i would LOVE these on my shelf! the artist Arch Apolar fit so many little easter eggs into the design that every time i see the covers i see something new
1) some of my fave YA covers: the Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner (newer editions), the Bloody Jack Adventures by L. A. Meyer (spec. the illustrations by Cliff Nielson), the last two books of The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater, everything by Patricia A. McKillip, and my absolute favourite, the Elly MacKay illustrations for Anne of Green Gables (also the artist lives in my town which is very cool!!) 2) covers that were shit but the insides were good: the His Fair Assassin series by Robin LaFevres (ballgown + sword fantasy cover, i wouldn't have read if it wasn't recommended, but the stories themselves are stunning), The Books of Pellinor by Allison Croggon (some of the covers are okay, the colour palette is good but there is a lot of *protagonist stares earnestly at you*; the books themselves are so good though) 3) covers that were good but the insides were terrible: The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater... that's all i can think of at the moment 4) there are so many books in this video that i hadn't heard of which are now on my to-read list, thank you! 5) inkheart is so beautiful now what the heck???? do i need to repurchase the trilogy now (yes, yes i do)
I would love to see a video on what makes something whether a cover, thumbnail, poster, powerpoint slide, etc eye catching and pleasing to look at. I find I like simple designs but I don't actually know why something is so eye catching sometimes.
I think The Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeve, both the original covers and the new covers are so stunning (not the movie covers!). Also Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman, the cover with the sea trench is also the main character’s head upside down and that links beautifully to the story which is about schizophrenia and mental health.
I definitely chose to read Descendants of the Crane based on its cover and by gosh was it A Good Decision. Also in the realm is Neon Yang's 4 novella Tensorate series Black Tides of Heaven, Red Threads of Fortune, Descent of Monsters, and Ascent to Godhood, just makes me wanna cry. Another book that makes me wanna cry (derogatory) is Children of Virtue and Vengeance, that Blood and Bone girl she hit puberty and did a reverse Mia and just looks awful. The Eragon books weren't that great but those stunning Dragons Giving Side Eye tho.
furyborn by claire legrand and the rest of its series' initial print run have *really* pretty covers (i own a preliminary copy i got from a ya book festival). there's also that famous fahrenheit 451 cover designed by elizabeth perez that's the one print run of the book from 2013 that i desperately want to own.
i bought the book cultish by Amanda montell for the cover (she trendy) and the content and both did not disappoint its a fun non-fiction read feels like you're learning stuff but not reading a text book
the covers for a conspiracy of truths and a choir of lies really hit the sweet spot for me (hidden references to plot points!!! art nouveau feel!!!) but i'm also biased because i am just a huge simp for the series LMAO
