    Back when we were working full time, travel was a luxury. Now it's become a way for us to keep our costs surprisingly low in early retirement -- much lower than when we were working full time. When you think ahead to your own retirement, do you think that your costs will be more or less than what you spend now? Let us know down below!

    That $4 breakfast in Istanbul makes me swoon! We have former students from Turkey, and the food in their restaurant is just WOW. We look forward to visiting when we have the time.
    And I actually don't think your grocery budget is that bad! We spend a similar amount of money here in the states; our town experienced an oil boom a little while back, and prices never returned to normal.

      We really miss those Turkish breakfasts!
      It's great to hear that we're not the only ones with a high grocery bill...we were beginning to wonder if we eat double the amount of food of most people! 😊

    I bet my expenses will be more, because right now I'm watching my spending quite a bit, while in "retirement" I'll want to enjoy myself more, explore, and try new things. Sometimes you can find things that are cheap or free, but not always. Still, YOLO! It may also depend on the lifestyle of my travel buddy (I hope I'll have one!)

    I'm anticipating our cost of living will be low when we retire. I think it will be a conscious effort as we know we don't have any income coming in anymore.

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  3 роки тому +1

      I'm sure you'll find that your cost of living is lower. We found that we saved a lot of money by simply not having jobs anymore and not having to commute or dress up or all the other things we used to spend money on! 😊

  • @seymourskinner2533
    @seymourskinner2533 3 роки тому

    I anticipate my cost of living will drop substantially. Some obvious ways are
    1. No more commuting. When I’m In Australia I drive to work. That 30-45 mins each way. Apart from petrol itself that added to running costs of the car and wear and tear. My house is walking distance to local shops and a bus terminal so I’d anticipate using that more. Yes I could use the bus now but to where I work it’s more like an hour and a half each way.
    2. Cooking and food itself. With more time my meals can be more planned, healthier and yet still cheaper. Plus I will have the opportunity to grow more of my own food so again healthier and yet cheaper. Again I could do that now but long hours at work make home cooking difficult and limited free time also make time in the garden time I don’t always have.
    3. Wardrobe. I “invest” significant money on clothes just for work. Without that expectation my clothing costs would be way down.
    4. Self reliance. I’m constantly frustrated at paying someone to do house or car repairs that I am entirely capable of myself.this is not just an expense it’s also something I get satisfaction from. But at the moment I just don’t have the time, or even the energy quite often, to get even basic things done myself.
    Anyway that’s just a few basic items. I guess each will depend on the lifestyle of the person as they retire.

      Hi Seymour - These are all excellent points and you've actually led the way to part two for this video...all the ways we save money when we are no longer working! If I retire at 60 years old with 1 million dollars, is that enough money to travel extensively until I’m 75 years old? Thanks for your reply! I love your channel

    • @OurFreedomYears
      @OurFreedomYears  3 роки тому

      Hi Johnny - Excellent question! The answer all depends on how much money you need to spend each year for a comfortable lifestyle.
