My textbook seems to give separate formulas for the both the x-coordinate and y-coordinate, which are found by taking the inverse of the total mass and multiplying it by _some_ integral. I don't understand how that works.

That's simple...if the rod has a mass too..treat it like a small box in the centre with mass as much as that of the mass of the rod...and then these three are connected by a massless rod.. :) you can ask me if you want any more help or clarification.
How is it that NO EXTERNAL FORCE acts on the rocket? Isn't the Parabolic path (projectile) a direct result of the gravitational force acting on it? And the velocity does not remain constant throughout. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If we apply a constant force to the object, it will move with a constant acceleration and NOT with a constant velocity (Newton's second law!). The videos are great, but what the teacher is saying is wrong.

How do you find the center of mass when the bar connecting the objects DOES have a mass?
