I was part of the choir, seen briefly behind the drummer. We came from all cultures and had been rehearsing for weeks with Sir Howard Morrison. This clip show the huge adrenalin rush we all felt and carried on feeling when NZ won a record number of medals.
I remember this song so well when i was in Form One. My bro and i use to sing it all the time and pretend to hold our own commonwealth games at home with our friends who lived on our street. Best memories!!!
If I could only turn back time it was the best ever. I was driving for the ARA then and we took the teams from Mt Smart back to the village in Glen Innes and also from the Park n Ride.
This was a time when kiwiland was much more cohesive and a happier place to live in....before and after these games......the 21st century has seen alot of change in attitudes but not necessarily for the better! I thought the song 'this is the moment' was a catchy one that people could sing and dance along to! The Royals always seemed to enjoy visiting New Zealand for these occasions!
Love hearing the choral "Haere Mai" behind the main singers. Somehow this song randomly came back into my mind today, so I came online to try and track it down to hear it properly again. Thanks for uploading this, great memories of home and that particular time (I remember it was also the 150th anniversary of Waitangi in 1990 as well), so it all feels like nostalgic "kiwiana" to me now.
Don't know about that. It was the last time NZ was arguably one of the best places in the world to live. Now everyone is either super wealthy or living week to week.

Still love watching this and enjoying Kiwi pride ❤🎉
Me listening to this as I watch the closing ceremony of the 2024 olympics in Paris 🎉🙌

Brilliant! :)New Zealand showed the world how to party back then!!
Always put on a great song and music show for any occasion. Proud to be a Kiwi.

That was wonderful. That sure does bring back the memories!!!! I was living in Auckland during these games. Sadly I don't live in NZ anymore.

They kept those commonwealth flags on lamp posts until they were rags. I saw my flatmate was still using a Commonwealth Games towel!

I watched this as a kid in Nottingham, UK. I just randomly thought of it 32 years later in Thailand. What a tune! 😁🎶
Hey Ben this is awesome Man! I especially like you turning around to the camera at the end... awesome mate!!
Back when we had an airforce 😄
A 1996 Melbourne Olympics banner. Was anyone from the English team sporting a Manchester 1996 banner?
Ahh the 90’s...back when NZ had an Air Force with real planes
DID WE?
