Why? people can access any vehicle with bluetooth. Yet nobody does it. I doubt anybody will give a fk about some random robot doing dishes. The fear mongering is so wild on here. I guess if you're trying to keep people wasting time with mundane household-tasks this is one way to attempt that.
@charlespanache7047 Car Bluetooth requires access from inside the car not just any phone outside of it. The fear is someone being able to hack these robots (i know guys who can hack anything). Then murder using a robot with a knife becomes a real life scenario.
@@charlespanache7047 bro if a hacker can remote control your chore bot to snoop around your house or even as a larger job with robbers to let them in you could just straight up lose all your valuables
@charlespanache7047 It's a bad precedent. Today, your toaster, tomorrow, your robot, next week, your phone and brain chip. It's not that someone does anything with the robot. Once someone has Bluetooth on something, they can jump between ANY Wi-Fi-connected object because they already got permission into your network through the robot

They said it's also designed to use tools, but there's legislation that prevents it from doing that. Also, another fun thing we learned there is that the reason they design it for the home is because its an unstructured environment, it's different in every home and from day to day. And that's hard. But training a robot in a structured environment where nothing changes is easy. So by training the robots in an unstructured environment first, they will at the same time train it for structured environments.

right, that would mean its connected to the internet, which of course it is, everything is, which means it can be hacked. don't see any issues there lol
People can hack into your phone too, do you know why they don’t? It’s because it’s ridiculously hard and expensive. You’d have to be a very important person to be a target of a hacker that willing to cause you harm. Only other way to get hacked is to be a complete idiot downloading whatever you see, but in that case you probably deserve to be taught a lesson. I highly doubt hackers would be an issue for these robots man.
i think boston robotics making the robots move "unnaturally" is the better solution. they can be humanoid sure, but they shouldn't move like people, if it inhibits their efficiency. like that video of a robot gathering wheat. that's stupid, cause we have huge machines that do that more efficiently. what im saying is we shouldn't create robot slaves, we should create robot tools.
But how then will the petite bourgeois business owners feed their ego and feel superior!? They obviously need the feeling of being a slave master! Yes, I am genuinely saying that insecure capitalists want to cosplay as slave owners.
they still won’t actually have intelligence smh, if your problem is that it makes it inefficient fine , but if your problem is that it makes you feel weird then that’s your own personal problem

as a disabled person this could be super useful as I cant really clean or cook (without extreme pain) and could be used alongside aides. The biggest issue would be lack of socializing cause now you dont have a human with you, and also the dangers of hackers taking control of your robot. But theres a lot more need than supply of human aides so many disabled people have to go without or deal with abusive or neglectful caretakers. Also what disabled person on social security would be able to afford one of these? A cripple can dream at least
Honestly I think in the long term we will all profit from robotic ai systems. I was working once in a pizzashop baking/serving pizza and drinks. A job like this could be easily done by robots. So all these jobs will fall away and then lots of people will be out of jobs. These people could be used to finally do social work and to get our society to the next level. On the other side I know as much as you guys that chances are small that the world really changes and rich mighty people will always find ways to hold us down.
I think it's weird how so many of these comments are bringing up an imaginary boogey-man. Who the fk is gonna hack a person robot that is designed to assist a disabled person? Might as well not drive your vehicle, bc people are capable of hacking in to them. This fear mongering reads as a bad scary story kids tell each other around a campfire.
Notice how they keep making them look humanoid to prove they’re “the newest and greatest” when in reality the most useful robot for the house would be a box with 8 arms and 2 thumbs on every hand
I honestly feel something like the AI assistant in the film _Moon_ is probably the best. Sort of mounted on a rail in the ceiling, goes wherever it needs to, can cook with all its arms, etc. Probably better integrated with the house. Most arguments for strictly humanoid robots I see is the idea that because environments are ergonomically designed for humans, a robot would easier interact with things if it has a vaguely human shape.
Yea, the human form is way overrated. So much of the energy/hardware/calculation is spent just for it to stay upright when it could be so much more versatile and effective if the form wasn't a limiting factor. Then again, as Charlie said, this is possibly one of the least menacing robots one can imagine.
I hate charlies thinking of jobs we dont want. When robots take it there will just be another job we dont want. Then what, take the next job we dont want? Robots should only have dangerous or non interacting jobs because we still need work that makes us happy. Imagine it takes care of your kids for you. Does that make you a bad parent? What if people start growing up not caring about human life and only thinking about money money money over love. What even makes you human? The urge to get in contact with a friend and do things with each other? a football is more human that a robot could ever be. Imagine that pressure of growing up and there is no one there to even look at you the right way or even, not talk for two seconds and actually listen to what you have to say even if it is babbling and laughter. Imagine the person talking to you only has what is percieved as "THE RIGHT ANSWER". Where is the room to grow and make mistakes and learn from yourself and overcome your differences? How do you even have a place in this world anymore? Robots will just reverse time back to give us those opportunities once again. Why speed up the inevitable because who is to say we haven't gone through the same stage of evolution in this life times and times over again? we just dont need some programmer like kamski casually just simulating consciousness inside androids and then brainwashing them so they obey orders whilst also giving them the ability to "deviate"

"learns by watching people" uhhh like watching someone beat/kill another? Then replicating that? That sounds like... A great horror story ngl. One that probably exists already
If and when these sort of robots become commonplace, there inevitably will be someone finding a way to hack or illegally modify it to just straight up shoot / stab someone as a bizarre assassination plot, along with countless other crimes. Remote operation also probably would at some point be used to commit various crimes in a way that doesn't reveal identity or endangers the perpetrator. And that's only considering what could be done _illegally_ with these sort of things, as opposed what sanctioned government authorities may use them for.

boston dynamics needs to spearhead any robot project if we plan on moving forward, they make robots, no faces, no bullshit, and they perform tasks exceptionally compared to others
The advantage of human shaped robot is that it can use your appliances and navigate your house. Imagine if apple made a robot "you want me to mop the floor? I have to use special iMop, for sale only $599"
All a robot would really need is moving, a way to access different heights, and the ability to pick things up. It doesn't need to be human shaped to do any of those.
I think the funniest thing about all this is that they are trying to market the robot by saying you'll get your time back not having to do the tasks it can do. But you have to be wealthy enough to own a house and purchase the robot and maintain it. If you're already there, what are the odds you're doing your own cleaning?
I think the odds are very low. I expect a household robot to cost 10k to maybe tops 25k, so less than a new small car. But how many people do you know that bought a 20k car in their life vs. who have a full-time housekeeper? I know lots of people in the former, but 0 in the latter. Also the robot is a one time purchase and then it's 24/7 available for you vs a housekeeper who will cost you every month and is at most 40h per week available. The break-even point for the robot would probably have to be 5y+ for you to pick the housekeeper.
@@Blex_040companies make me pay to use my own *printer* after buying it and tesla charges for its features, so I somehow doubt this robot and all it's features would stay without charging more money after a one time purchase
Plus it makes the robot just another thing to steal from your house. In pieces or not. They will probably not be protected by laws to the same degree humans are, which gives the green light for criminals to always go for them.
new technology always starts out as a gimmic only available to the rich and trickles down to others with time. This happened to cars, air travel, computers, exotic foods, literally everything. Learn to look more than 1 day into the future.
3:03 "teleport into your robot" this seems like a huge risk, what if someone simply learned how to insert themselves into other peoples robots. They could easily choke out a disabled person or open the front door making home robberies super easy. @@MemeL0rd13 It's obvious which you meant, I was just trying to cheer you up a bit. Curious though, if #3 isn't the same as #2, what did you mean by it? Honestly not sure.
I feel like it'd be more of a hassle to maintain and correct them than to have them around. Imagine it cleaning your toilet then accidentally splashing dirty water on itself and putting the wet tools over the floor, which would then require you to assist to clean up. Human shaped robots are the most inefficient robots because they are limited to tasks that the human anatomy can complete, and humans require specific tools for tasks, so it's easier to do those specific tasks yourself instead of maintaining a tool that'll use tools. That's why roombas look like roombas and not robo maids holding vaccuum cleaners, the robot should be the vaccuum cleaner.
THAT i mean i have 0 idea why not more people see that. Its quite obvious that IF we were to one day actually use robots, we would just have a bunch of them with all very specific usage. A robot for the garden that is basicaly a giant grass cutter, a robot for the kitchen that act as both oven and dishwasher. Stuff like that.
Humanoid robots will only be useful when AI gets to the point and robotics gets to a point where there's virtually no difference between interacting with one, and a real human.

So by training the robots in an unstructured environment first, they will at the same time train it for structured environments.

as a disabled person this could be super useful as I cant really clean or cook (without extreme pain) and could be used alongside aides. A cripple can dream at least
i was thinking that too, what average disabled person can ever afford a personal robot? this is clearly made for the rich and elite

So much of the energy/hardware/calculation is spent just for it to stay upright when it could be so much more versatile and effective if the form wasn't a limiting factor. have you seen zombie movies? they don't (usually) move fast, but they still are able to dominate. and if they're able to seize production, they have an unlimited supply
@@MagnokTheMightyThey don't have infinite production. Just the material to make them these rare materials and complexity of maintannace and making them is enough of a bottle neck to limit thier number potentional. Why do you think human endoskeleton is made of iron clcium alloy? For laughs?
Charlie explaining why it’s good because he could beat it in a fight is so funny
boston dynamics needs to spearhead any robot project if we plan on moving forward, they make robots, no faces, no bullshit, and they perform tasks exceptionally compared to others
Their projects from a decade ago are way more impressive (and real) than anything these startups or Tesla are putting out
They do, at least to the point their's is still DARPA funded.
Which says a lot without saying anything.
Bro wtf Boston dynamic is a military company why would you say they need to spearhead any robot projects?
Easy way to end up with a monopoly and insane prices
@D-Doc-C the competition is waddling mannequins, maybe if other companies showed proper results it wouldn't end up in a monopoly
Remote usage chore robot? Potentially accessible by the corporation owning it at any time including the authorities?
"Execute chore robot order 66"
It's perfect how Charlie naturally sits slightly tilted JUST enough so we can see the CRT TV. Perfect background
The advantage of human shaped robot is that it can use your appliances and navigate your house. Imagine if apple made a robot "you want me to mop the floor? I have to use special iMop, for sale only $599"
All a robot would really need is moving, a way to access different heights, and the ability to pick things up. It doesn't need to be human shaped to do any of those.
you mean $59,999
@@xsnowaxex no that would be an OEM chinese iMop. The original Apple iMop would be $599.
Counter wiping will be a $200/month subscription.
I think the funniest thing about all this is that they are trying to market the robot by saying you'll get your time back not having to do the tasks it can do.
But you have to be wealthy enough to own a house and purchase the robot and maintain it. If you're already there, what are the odds you're doing your own cleaning?
if you're so concerned about money as a rich person, you'll probably say "hey i don't have to pay this one a salary! just a one time buy!"
“The robots are here protect mannco!”
0:19 woah what does he have on in the background?
Are you 10?
@asuka-ryo oooh nice flex.. you should call your mom and tell her how sweet of a burn that was.
Thats 40k
should be subway surfers
I think it may be Godslap?
3:03 "teleport into your robot" this seems like a huge risk, what if someone simply learned how to insert themselves into other peoples robots. They could easily choke out a disabled person or open the front door making home robberies super easy. Heck even murdering people would become easy, even if the person inserting themselves into the robot lives in a completely different country.
"insert themselves into other peoples robots." Awesome-O is not designed for this function!!!
It's developed in Norwegian, basically a PVE RP server, they don't even have a concept of crime
@@Dumb-Comment 🤣
@@Morboeatspeople There are three things I could have meant with that statement: 1. Hack and take control over the body of the robot. 2. Dirty minded 3. Har har har har har, har ha-har ha-haar. Feel free to presume whichever you like.
That's why roombas look like roombas and not robo maids holding vaccuum cleaners, the robot should be the vaccuum cleaner.
so... transformers?
THAT i mean i have 0 idea why not more people see that. Its quite obvious that IF we were to one day actually use robots, we would just have a bunch of them with all very specific usage. A robot for the garden that is basicaly a giant grass cutter, a robot for the kitchen that act as both oven and dishwasher. Stuff like that.
Humanoid robots will only be useful when AI gets to the point and robotics gets to a point where there's virtually no difference between interacting with one, and a real human.
