This can be found on the "A Very Merry Christmas" album from 1971, made special for the old Grant's stores. I still have the copy from when I was a kid, we listened to this album alot while decorating the tree/house. You can find this album alot of times at Goodwill and ST.Vinny's. Thanks for sharing, Merry Christmas everybody!
I love this beautiful classic Christmas song since I was 3! It was recorded by the late very talented singer and actor Ed Ames in 1971. The picture the picture of the cute baby donkey is adorable! This song is very touching! I was born in 1978. Thank you for posting and sharing!
Thank you for posting this. This was a song I had been searching for ever since I was a teenager. I remember as a child feeling so happy the donkey felt beautiful in his service. I have a you tube download program, that rips a mp3 off the video, so I don't need you to send this to me, but do know that you have given me one of the best Christmas presents a girl could get. Thank you yet again.
A few years ago, we had a flood and I lost all of my vinyl albums. I thought I would never hear this song again. It's great gift that you posted it here. Thanks and Merry Christmas!
I first heard this song Christmas 1968 and oh, how it made me cry. I was that donkey...I knew I wasn't beautiful. But Jesus loved me to the point that I asked Him into my heart and I now know He used even the ones who are not beautiful. Please consider an encouraging book for the hurting people of this world. "Faithful Hope" can be found on Amazon.com in paperback and Kindle and also for Nook. Blessings...
Once upon a time, my uncle sat on my grandmother's vinyl record with this song on it, and broke it. For years afterwards, whenever grandma and I passed a library, we would check their records for this album. One day, we found it! We promptly borrowed it and turned it into a CD, which has now been copied and sent to most of our family. We taught it to my girl scout troupe over the holidays every year since. This song was my childhood. Thank you for making it so accessible.
40 years ago this was my favorite from the "A Very Merry Christmas" album that my parents bought. We played the album for years since it was a great favorite in our household. Coming across this vid brings back such great memories of those days gone by.
We played this when I was a kid in the 70's on a record my mom and dad bought at Grants department store called VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS VOLUME 5 I still have this album Thanks for the post
It's August, not even close to Christmas and I just needed to hear this tonight. So happy someone posted it. I had it when I was a kid and lost the album in a flood. I'm thrilled it's still out there for me to hear tonight. Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing the song. I remember listening to this when I was a child. My Mom still has the album. It was also recently released on cd. I always loved this song, Ed Ames has such a unique voice :)
I am haunted by this song from my special childhood. Had it on the Very Merry Christmas album, and I must get a copy for my daughters. It tugged at my heartstrings back in the early 70's and still does now. Thank you for posting--I feel beautiful now. : )
Thank You. This was a Christmas song when I was growing up. All the times I was deployed, during Christmas, I would remember this song and a few others because it was nice to think about being a kid again. THANKS. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much. My mom had this on a Christmas medley album and it has always been my favorite. I have been searching for it for years. You're a true angel.
I had a copy of this old christmas album that i got from my dad when he died. Sadly I lost it in a flood. I wish they would just rerelease these beautiful old christmas albums - it would be on the top of my christmas list!
OK, now I'm upset. He's soooooooooooooo beautiful!!!! How on earth can anyone think a donkey isn't beautiful. It's just lucky that Ed Ames has such a beautiful voice or I'd be seriously upset. Donkeys are beautiful dammit!
An overlooked Christmas gem. Ed Ames delivery is heartfelt, and strong. A perfect message for the Christmas season. Tells a great little story in just over two minutes..... Thanks UA-cam!!
This brings back memories of my EARRRRLY childhood. I can't believe I remember every word to this song. I am on a mission to find this album on CD. I'd love a copy.
I bought the Christmas with Ed Ames Album last year on Ebay. I burned it to a CD, I guess I should do the same next year so that the Album can be passed around.
OMG I have been looking for this song for YEARS! I remember this song from a record my mother had when I was a child! I always remembered this song! My FAVORITES Christmas song!!!
I just ran across this. We have two donkeys. We use "Jack, the Bible Donkey" in our ministry to the elderly. He is trick-trained. He is a tool we use to tell people about Christ and His Salvation. We are off searson right now, but you can see him on Facebook. You have to scroll down to see some of his ministry work. Right now, there is just some bantering back and forth with other patient therapy animals, etc.
Ok- I am a dork, but my eyes tear up listening to this song. I grew up listening the the Ed Ames Christmas album every Christmas. Any ideas on getting a copy of the LP? My parents would be thrilled! Thanks for posting this! It does my heart good...
Everyone I know hates when I play this song because it’s not upbeat and jingly. But my great aunt passed away one year- leaving us her record player with built in 8track. I loved playing all our old records- even if they were warped and scratched and skipping and popping all over the place. Gems like this get me sentimental and thinking of simpler times.
Long ago, in another day A donkey cried in his donkey way I'm not beautiful, I'm not beautiful What good to anyone am I? Other animals are big and strong Or rare or filled with an animal song But I'm not beautiful, I'm not beautiful What good to anyone am I? Heaven cried Donkey you can carry Will you carry Mary? Angels for your guide On Christmas morn', in the stable hay The donkey smiled in his donkey way I feel beautiful, I feel beautiful As beautiful as anyone am I As beautiful as anyone am I

What am i listening to in may
What a pretty song never heard it before
Long ago, in another day
A donkey cried in his donkey way
I'm not beautiful, I'm not beautiful
What good to anyone am I?
Other animals are big and strong
Or rare or filled with an animal song
But I'm not beautiful, I'm not beautiful
What good to anyone am I?
Heaven cried
Donkey you can carry
Will you carry Mary?
Angels for your guide
On Christmas morn', in the stable hay
The donkey smiled in his donkey way
I feel beautiful, I feel beautiful
As beautiful as anyone am I
As beautiful as anyone am I
