  • The Olamana Ridge trail aka Three Peaks in Oahu, Hawaii, is one of the most dangerous hikes in Oahu, Hawaii. Even though it is very difficult and dangerous, this hike offers breathtaking views and exciting challenges. While getting to the 1st peak is the easiest, the trail gets significantly more challenging as you hike on. Getting to the 3rd peak is very strenuous since it requires a very steep descent down a slippery cliff and then climbing up narrow ridges with many fully exposed sections. It is a long way down if you fall. Even with ropes, technical climbing experience is highly recommended for this trail. Nevertheless, this hike is worth every moment!
☠️☠️ 𝐖𝐀𝐑𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆: The Olomana Trail aka Three Peaks is a very dangerous and strenuous hike. Many hikers have died on this hike. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS HIKE IF IT’S RAINY OR HAD RAINED THE DAY BEFORE. The entire hike is dangerous, however, it becomes a lot more treacherous after the first peak. By the end of the trail, you are no longer hiking but scrambling on technical class 4 or 5 sections. You will be scaling vertically on the side of the mountain, fully exposed, holding onto ropes. If the weather turns bad, it would become a life-threatening situation even for experienced hikers. PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU’RE 100% SURE OF YOUR ABILITY, ALSO, DON’T DO THIS HIKE ALONE. Technical climbing experience is highly recommended.

I want to thank you both for braving these peaks, and filming the trek so thoroughly. I consider myself pretty agile and fairly athletic, but there is no way I'm going anywhere near those 3 peaks. Thank you for showing me what I'm missing. Definitely reduced my FOMO. I'm glad you made it back down safely too! 🙂

That branch by the cliff at @3:31 saved my life. I hit a patch of gravel down-hiking that scramble and started rolling until I hit my head on it. It's not clear from the footage, but there's a sharp drop after it.

Great video! Mahalo. Been living on Oahu for over 55 years and never climbed Olomana. Seeing those drops and my fear of heights tells me I was right to avoid doing so. So your video really filled out a portion of where I live!

There are a number of videos of folks walking the really dicey parts of the Ko'olau ridgeline. Happy for guys (and ladies) like you that traverse sections like this successfully. With GoPro, the things this couch potato gets to experience!

It is a wild one! I agree with you on the road. We always try to never fully weight ropes like this. You need to have control on the rocks with the other hand and just kind of use it as a helper.

Thank you so much! This trail was definitely super challenging. A fear of heights would probably put this on the no go list. As much as we try to capture the experience, it was hard to do justice to how amazing but also sketchy this trail is. The good thing is that there are plenty of other trails on Oahu that are gorgeous and not as dangerous. Have a great weekend! 😎🤙

Wow. My cousin and I did this years ago. It was pretty hairy but this looked worse than I remember! We summited right around 7pm which means we had stunning views in the firey glow of sunset. Amazing. Of course, it also meant we had to get down the trail in the dark (we had forgotten flashlights). It was a brutal descent when you can't see the roots. Great video!

Glad you enjoyed the video! It sounds like you had a pretty memorable experience up there! Sunset must have been incredible, but I can't imagine how sketchy that way back must have felt. Glad you made it safe! We recently got caught on a sketchy Oahu hike in the dark, luckily we had headlights and were past the worst part, but it was still pretty wild! 😎🤙

This used to be my after work trail run. Round trip including all three peaks would take 1.5 hours. First time you do this hike it is a bit daunting but then you start to learn it. One of the best short hikes I found on the island, but there are a couple of spots where you slip...you die.

The sketchiest hike I’ve ever done was Angel Landing in Zion National Park in Utah. But what made that scarier for me was other people on the trail trying to pass us going the other way when it was much to narrow to be going with the carelessness for others I was seeing.
But this trail in Hawaii makes the Terrifying 25 in NH look like a cake walk. I’d probably have stopped at the first peak. I love a good scramble but I’m not familiar with Hawaii and how slippery the soil and rocks might be. That’s me being cautious. I personally just wouldn’t risk it. But thank you for sharing, I loved going along for your hike.
People think I’m crazy for going up an Adirondack high peak in winter, but that’s experience and familiarity for me. I know what to expect and prepare for.

    • @LiveThatAdventure
      @LiveThatAdventure  Рік тому

Angels Landing is one of our favorites! Passing can definitely be a lil scary at times though. That is what led to the unfortunate permit system that's in place now.
That Hawaii mud can get really slippery. 3 peaks is challenging on a dry day, but it would be super dangerous in the mud, and with the amount of rain Hawaii gets, mud is common. There is definitely no shame to turning back at the first peak.
You have definitely peaked (pun intended) out interest in the terrifying 25! Any recommendations?

    • @stellashepherd3229

@@LiveThatAdventure I love Zion National Park. It’s one of my favorite places. If I had Angel landing to myself I would have been fine. 😄
The Holt Trail to Mt Cardigan is one of my favorites for challenging. I love all of them that I have done, about 12 so far. If you’re interested in watching a UA-cam channel that gives you a good idea of those hikes in NH there’s one called Brian Hikes all day that’s a lot of fun. He does Adirondack High Peaks as well. He has so much joy and enthusiasm and you get a pretty good idea of the challenges of the hike but also the beauty and fun.

Great video, but you didn´t finish the hike! Next time go down the chimney on the far side of Ahiki (3rd peak). You basically have to stem down the whole way, but it is doable and fun. From the bottom you can hike your way through the golf course, or around it, back to your car. There are trails through the ¨jungle¨ on either side of the peaks that leads the way back. Only experienced rock climbers should try this. I don´t agree with leaving sketchy ropes up on this trail. It only gives false security for novice climbers. I would never rely on them for safety.
