Southern isn't just one line, but an entire railway franchise covering many local service in the South in/out of London. They manage 156 stations, and their trains call at 213 stations.
I was brought up in South Anston, one mile north of Kiveton Park Station and went to Wales High School from 1996-2003. One (slightly) interesting fact is that the stone from a quarry in Anston was used to partly build the Houses of Parliament and was transported to London via the Chesterfield Canal which runs right next to Kiveton Park Station before it eventually joins the River Trent.
A free house is a pub that isn't owned by a particular brewery. Its not that you don't have to pay an entrance fee! Also I would be interested in watching a US rail stations video.
For the last one, it means it is a station operated by Southern Railway, which is quite a lot of stations between London and the South Coast. The Sheffield one, the logo was for Travel South Yorkshire. You recognised the TfL logo. The first one was Greater Anglia, but it didn't have a logo.
@@craftsmanwoodturner Interesting - I remember Chris Evert and think she commentated on a lot of Wimbledon championships throughout the years here in the US
You mentioned that there are a lot of barber shops. There has been an explosion in the number of "Turkish" barber shops over the past few years, so many often located close together that many people believe they are not actually viable businesses but fronts for laundering money from illegal activities (drugs, people trafficking etc etc.).
most of them are 100% money laundering. i've seen shops that are always empty and they have 3/4 guys constantly there. legit barbers usually have 1 or 2 people and they've usually constantly cutting hair just to make a profit.
When I was still in school, I went to the UK on "language holidays". Once I was staying in Croydon and West Croydon was the station I used - at the time there was no tram yet.
Nice and easy the 3 smaller national rail stations had helpful signs telling you what platforms to get for near by cities so zoom in and look between maybe this is more common than I thought, I guess outside of London I mostly use city central stations were you just have to look at signs. West Croydon was a gimme and I think the only one I have been to, though or really near, I got the overground (orange tube) to it once. Blackpool took me working out it was a tram stop - also its a rare (only in the UK) surviving Victorian tram network so I was surprised the tram didn't look heritage. So 25k.
Good game! I think you stumbled on the Blackpool illuminations which aren’t too exciting in the daylight. They are on from the autumn time-ish each year and it’s basically a series of light shows along the main strip - people drive through or you can walk it - or cycle on certain dates where the road is closed. Look forward to your live stream!
@@alloverthemap23I’m from Blackpool - sections of the illuminations are now sponsored, hence the McDonalds lights - locals call the illuminations “The Loomies”
Round 1: Some very helpful signs to the left. I know where both Colchester and Clacton are so finding Alresford between them was a doddle. 7 yards away as I thought we were closer to the railway than we were. Round 2: Very easy! I've used West Croydon tram stop on many occasions, so I knew exactly where we were from the start. Round 3: This one I did have to work at. I don't know where Kiveton Park is and I don't recognise the T symbol, but it suggests we're near an urban area. I see an 01909 area code which I think might be Worcester but I'm pretty sure that doesn't have the density of public transport necessary for a PTE. I decide to head east and quickly lose the village without anything useful. Carrying on I eventually arrive at the crossroads in South Anston which puts us between Sheffield and Worksop (the latter will be what the 01909 code references) just off the A57. Zooming in I find Kiveston Park quickly and then the station shortly after. Round 4: Another easy one, I was in Blackpool about 6 months ago and recognised it instantly. Round 5: Very frustrating! I changed trains at Hassocks not so long back, but it took me much longer than it should have done to remember where it was in relation to Brighton. Overall 19 yards in 11 minutes got me a perfect score.
I got the full 25,000 points on this one (recorded it as an emergency video for my channel) I'd be up for the American stations one (and how in gods name have you heard of Maldon and Tiptree?!?! the two clubs merged, it happens a lot at that level another local club AFC Sudbury is the result of two merged clubs, Felixstowe and Walton being another)
Thanks for watching!

The green TFL Roundal in the West Croydon round is for the Tram.

That's pretty interesting. I didn't realize how many canals there are in England...
A close is a cul de sac usually.
Interesting. I've seen that used in the US but in more wealthier neighborhoods (Close) - typically it is "Court"
I dont believe this to be the case

Indeed, it's that the pub is free to buy its beer from any supplier.
Yes, the opposite being known as a "tied house", where almost all the beers on tap are those of the brewery that owns the premises.

7:05 David Lloyd Beckenham 😂 Made me chuckle… David Lloyd I think is a fitness place
Yes, and David Lloyd was a British tennis player. I think he married Chris Evert.

yes very funny haha
Watching some of your past videos after really enjoying your commentary style! Really reminds me of GeoWizard with all the great tangents!

there is an Alresford near where I live. it completely threw me off.
Great game
Me: wouldn't it be funny if my local station came up...
Last round: my local station 😮
Really enjoying the British maps 👌
Got to love the local round. Thanks for watching! I'm enjoying seeing all of the unique locations and sights throughout the UK!
Played before watching, got 25,000 - helped that I've been through most of the stations!
Back in the 1970’s, the Wales national football team was managed by Mike England 😂
It's pronounced "kiv-et-on Park
I am loving these vids, lots of fun to watch
My uncle lives in Clayton, it's a dump ! Don't put that on your visit list
as from the uk, a close is a dead end (or cul-de-sac) is a road that end with the pavement or sidewalk looping around a road
I zoomed in on Kiveton Park, clicked on the station. Oops, who knew the village had two stations?!
Fun game, took me far too long to locate Kiveton Park Station. Six minutes of a nine minute game :(
I got the full 25,000 points on this one (recorded it as an emergency video for my channel) I'd be up for the American stations one (and how in gods name have you heard of Maldon and Tiptree?!?! the two clubs merged, it happens a lot at that level another local club AFC Sudbury is the result of two merged clubs, Felixstowe and Walton being another)
Fair play I did the challenge before watching. you beat me by 6000 points
David Lloyd is a chain of UK gyms
Another great watch. Wishing you and your family the best for 2025!
Happy new yearrrr 🎉
