@@tknciliba4743 just wanted to drop this idea here... Everything in the Catholic spiritual practice is all about Jesus, even in the devotions to saints and Mary, its always oriented towards Jesus. When speakers mention hearing the voice of God in prayer, I often fail to understand what that means, what it feels/sounds like, and how to discriminate between what may be an imagination or an actual prompting of God. How does one hear God's voice in mental prayer?
I would type in Explaining the Faith Father Chris Alar on UA-cam. Go to one of his recent videos and ask the same question in the comments section. Usually questions like this Father Chris will answer. Sometimes it takes a little bit to get back to you but he's answered multiple questions for me
I have only heard God speak to my heart a few times, and I can tell you this. First, it's never something I would say myself. Second, it's so clever, rises so far above anything I could ever imagine or think, that even when it's not something I want to hear, I just have to shut up. It's like when people came and asked Jesus, "Should we pay tax to Caesar or not?" They were trying to trap him. If he said, 'Yes, pay taxes to Caesar,' then they could say, 'Oh, he supports the pagan Roman regime, and he cannot be the Messiah of the Jews." But if he said, "No, we are Jews! We cannot pay a tax to a pagan ruler who even declares himself divine," then he'd be speaking according to Jewish teaching, but they could have him arrested by the Romans as someone speaking insurrection and trying to overthrow the regime. What did Jesus do? He said, "Show me the coin you use to pay the tax. Whose image is on it?" They said, "Caesar's." And Jesus said, "Then give to Caesar what is Caesar's and give to God what is God's." He rose above their logic and said something they could never have guessed or imagined or predicted. So one way you know it's God and not you, is if it's a whole lot smarter than anything you would say. If you have a kind of, "Oh, duh" moment when you hear it - and realize, "I couldn't have come up with that answer myself," then it's not from you. Once I was taking part in what was for me an arduous pilgrimage. I saw lots of people who were treating it like a holiday, like a cool thing to cross off their bucket list. But for me, not being used to the physical demands of that pilgrimage, being on my own, never having done anything like it before, it was very challenging. I was speaking to Jesus in my heart and said, "Jesus, how do people do this without you?" I heard in my heart, "They don't." And I had an "Oh, duh" moment. Of COURSE they don't do it without him. They just THINK they do it without him. This can happen without hearing something 'in your heart.' For example, many people have questions and then go to Mass and they hear the answer to their questions read out in the readings or in the homily. It used to happen to me regularly when I was coming back to faith; just last week a woman from our congregation called the priest and told him that he was a prophet, because he could in no way have known the questions she was asking in prayer, but every single one of them was answered in his homily. So sometimes God speaks that way, and you don't need to "hear" something "in your heart." Another time I was upset because of a plan that I really, really wanted to work out, and it was something connected with going deeper into my faith. Everything was in order. I even got money from an unexpected source that would make it easy to do what I hoped to do. But then I realized it would not work out. I would have to stay where I was living, and continue doing the work I was doing, which I was getting tired of. I was praying, "I'll feel like such a loser if I have to stay here." And I heard in my heart, "Sometimes, you have to lose." Well, that is definitely NOT what I wanted to hear, but it's just so true that all I could do was just shut up: sometimes you simply have to lose. Yup. Can't argue with that. And it came true, too. I lost a LOT in the coming years - friends, my idea of myself and how someone of my qualifications should live, my dreams of the lifestyle I would have, etc. But then I gained more than I could have imagined by staying where I was and being faithful. Another time I was so upset because I had been really hurt - emotionally - by someone I thought was a friend spreading lies and slander about me, causing other people I counted as friends to distance themselves from me and abandon me. It was so unjust; it was lies; it was so hurtful! I cried out to God in my pain, and I heard in my heart, 'They did the same to me.' And again, I just had to shut up. Not what I wanted to hear. I wanted to hear that justice would be done, that someone would speak up and defend me, that my friends - who even admitted they knew that the lies were lies, but felt "conflicted" because they had known the liar longer than me - would rally to my defense. I didn't want to hear, "They did the same to me." But it put everything in perspective and made me realize that I just needed to shut up: I was with Jesus in this, and he was abandoned by everyone because of lies, too. Sometimes it might be God giving you your freedom. I have a friend who was in love with a good man, but at the same time afraid because of her family history of disastrous marriages and abusive relationships. She wanted God to just tell her: "Marry (Name)!" so she could just KNOW that marrying that man was the safe thing to do, God's will (and probably, so if there were problems she could blame God). She didn't want to make the decision herself. But God wants our freedom and cooperation; he doesn't want to order us like a master orders a slave. So as she prayed, she heard in her heart, "I want someone to love (name of the man)." As soon as she heard that in her heart, her response was, "I will!" and she was flooded with joy. All her doubts, tossing and turning in bed at night asking God to "tell her what to do," vanished and she knew what she wanted with all her heart. (They have a great marriage of some 25 years now.) So there's a kind of "resolution" that comes to our hearts, a peace and acceptance, a knowing. If you are wondering, "Was that God? Or was that just my imagination?" then it was you. Because when God speaks, the waters are stilled and we become calm inside and certain. If it's so smart that you'd never think of it; if it's so wise, so true that you just don't have any answer for it - that's a good sign it didn't come from you. Also, beware of imagining that everything YOU think is good is God saying that it's good. If you want something very much, and are asking God to tell you to just go ahead with it, and you hear silence, it's probably 'no' or 'not now.' DO NOT ACT if you really need God to tell you what to do and you're getting silence. Take it as "Not now," and do not go ahead with what YOU think is best or what YOU want. It's so easy to fool ourselves that "Well, God didn't thunder from heaven and tell me what to do, so I made a major life decision based on my desires." Sometimes God wants us just to use our brains and get on with life. Other times, he is silent because we don't really want to hear his answer, or do his will. For example, if you are asking, "Should I marry this person or not?" and the answer is silence, it's because you rigged the question. You didn't ask God, "What do you want me to do with my life?" You pursued your own course, ignored every sign or advice that you were given not to go down that path, and then gave God two options - and neither one might be his will for you - and then when he didn't answer a rigged question, you went ahead. I know someone who ended up in a null marriage to an awful man - and also ended up a single mother - because she went ahead with a relationship despite all her own doubts, ignoring the advice of anyone who warned her it was a bad idea; because she didn't want to be thirty and unmarried. She said that she asked God, and God was silent, so she went ahead. But she didn't ask God, "Show me what your call is on my life." She told God, "This is what I'm doing, and I have a lot of doubts about it because it's not going well, but I want to do it anyway, so if you don't want me to, tell me." God isn't coerced that way. She heard nothing, went ahead, and had a good twenty years of lonely single motherhood as a consequence. Personally, seeing where she is in life now, I suspect God really wanted her in a convent, and I would not be surprised if she ends up somehow living life in a religious community now that her child is grown up. But she didn't ask God, "Here I am. Be it done to me according to your will." She didn't say, "Speak, Lord, your servant is listening." She decided that the smartest thing to do to not be alone and not be poor was marry some man who had certain qualifications in terms of money and social status. And she ended up alone and poor because God was silent, and let her pursue her own way (just as her friends eventually fell silent and stopped trying to make her see sense when she was determined to marry that man.) Sometimes silence IS God speaking to your heart: He's saying, "I'm not answering that because it's not the right question. Try again." If it sounds like you just talking to yourself, "explaining to God" why something you want should be granted, that's just you talking to yourself. If you try to manufacture it - it won't happen. It will come by surprise; it will be wiser than you are; and it will bring a kind of stillness and certitude to you. I say that I had to just shut up, but it meant that the issue just felt somehow "settled" and there was no more to say. That's how you feel - steady, assured, confident, like you've heard a truth so true you could never come up with it or argue with it - when God has spoken to your heart.

Thanks for posting; viewing in 2024. After a protracted, seemingly unrelenting attack by the antichrists to 'force' me to leave the holy Catholic church, I learned to pray every day in the holy name of Jesus Christ against every tactic of the 'many antichrists ' (1 John 2:18). The goal of the antichrists is faithlessness, hopelessness and lovelessness (hard heartedness) by orchestrated and convoluted lies and deceit all contrary to the the Kingdom of Christ: indivisible light and truth. Ask: Who told you that, who, what, when, where, why and how in order to get to the truth and overcome their deceitful, arrogant, prideful mockery of God the Lord Jesus Christ: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Lord God of Hosts.
That is because he’s imaginary she has hidden her self away in a Covent she has no proof he was anything other than a normal man the bible is written by man a long time after Jesus died there con artists they live for free rent, car food all free by begging for talking rubbish
Your Jesus was only 33 years old ! Your God is only 33 years old ? Where was Jesus on his age from 12 years to 30 years in this world ? Was he a hidden God or Goat in the Dessert of Arabia ?
He was waiting for the time when he was appointed for(even though, look at what he was able to do in the short time he was in ministry, phenomenal), but l bet if they wrote what he was doing by that time you would not have read it anyway. Brother do not seek to oppose but to understand, because one day you will realise you did not listen to the only help you needed because you were hard hearted. Seek understanding, lm sure the more you learn the more will the wisdom and love of christ the hidden things about your life. That's how you feel - steady, assured, confident, like you've heard a truth so true you could never come up with it or argue with it - when God has spoken to your heart.
@@FigaroHey Thank you immensely for this reply. I really appreciate the effort taken to write this entire reply, and it most certainly helped me before making a retreat. I have saved it and keep going back to it when i need a reminder, or advice.

Sr. Mary Grace, you are God's instrument. Please play certain music where souls get drawn towards God. We all are children of God and His creation
Don't understand why u associate with them. Just leave!
Need your help please
So why does he ignore some of us when we do call out 😢

I say this because my heart was changed to him as well recently, and l wish l had done it sooner.
@@munyaradzimurove294 Bro. Don’t belief in Idol worshipping. Jesus was a Muslim ( He worshipped only one God like all other Muslims in this world)
Read ( John 3:17 ) in your incomplete and corrupted So called Bible.
Bro. You did not answer my question. Because, you or your church can not answer in the whole life time.
Be a simple Muslim and don’t be arrogant! Worship the same God that Jesus ( Isa- ( peace and blessings upon him) worship in his life time.
@@munyaradzimurove294don’t believe for a moment Jesus is was or ever will be a muslim. Check out Avery and his youtube channel GodLogic where he destroys this false claim and destroys Islam
