Remember, Buffy already died and “activated” a new slayer - Kendra. Kendra’s death activated Faith. To get a new slayer, Faith would have to be the one to die. Buffy dying again changes nothing as far as slayer lore is concerned.
Possibly. The show doesn't explicitly state this and it is absolutely contradicted in several episodes. I actually like the ambiguity. The whole point is that it is unprecedented. *spoilery observation below* I personally "headcanon" that a new slayer WAS called at the end of Season 5, but never interacts with the story we see. It's a big world, afterall. Buffy and Angel are a few miles away and deal with enormous world ending scenarios without each other (network issues aside, this is something any "expanded universe" of heroes has to deal with :P)
@@DmGray spoilers... Do not read if you haven't seen s7. . . . . . . . . . . . . This is actually never contradicted. I know exactly what you mean by saying it's contradicted, but it isn't. There is a reason Buffy says her death will call a new slayer in s7 and it's because at that point a slayer WOULD be called if she died. When she was resurrected, she was reinstated into the slayer line. That's what caused the disruption in the line and allowed the First to go and try and destroy it. But when she died in s5, she was still out of the line and hence no new slayer was called.
@@angelus1738 Spoiler: S7 discussion below: I think this is still supposition. Unless it's explained in further canon, there's no reason to believe that's how it works. Especially as Buffy "came back different" :P I've admittedly only read a few of the (non canon) books and none of the comics. But as well as it does on world building and consistency, there ARE a lot of retcons. For the better imo, but they're still there ^^ But I always perceived the disruption of the line that the first talks about BEING the season one finale. That makes WAY more sense to me, rather than just arbitrarily having different rules based on how long Buffy was dead or how she was brought back.
@@DmGray Sorry, but it is not speculation. What I said is explicitly stated in the show by Spoilers . . . . . . . Beljoxas eye when Anya and Giles go and visit it.

As has been mentioned, Anthony Head wanted to go back to England to spend time with his partner and daughters (who were pre-teens at the time), so he asked to be a guest star in S6 and not a regular anymore. A couple of fun facts: Anthony lives about 30 miles from where I grew up, and both his daughters are now actresses - Emily Head was in The Inbetweeners and UK soap Emmerdale, while Daisy Head has most recently been in Harlots, Shadow and Bone, and The Sandman.
The mystical magic around the Slayer lore is based on order. A slayer dies and the chain keeps moving to the next in line. Buffy was revived from being dead a few minutes. That awakened Kendra. After Kendra's death Faith was awakened. She would have to be the next slayer that would have to die in order for a new slayer to awaken. Buffy becomes the anomaly that still keeps her powers but no longer is linked to the order of awakening because hers already happened.
True, but it's not explicitly stated. S7 reference below: It's ambiguous as to whether Buffy has potentially started ANOTHER chain with her first "resurrection" (in season 1) and that THIS is the crisis the first talks about. It's never directly addressed in the show, which is sad, but in s7 the characters discuss another Slayer being called if Buffy should fall during the fight. (particularly the episode Potential, but also elsewhere)
@@DmGray Come to think of it, that's true. What do you know....an inconsistency I didn't think about before. It's true. There was never anything proven in that.

Ah yes, the ever controversial sixth season! I love the darker, more realistic tone of this season, and I'd hate to think what The WB would have done with this season. Enjoy it, Elie! Enjoy it!
Time passage in the show typically matched the school calendar, the gap between seasons matching summer vacations. The gap has been the same for every season so far, no reason to expect them to change the pattern for this season... :)
The writting this season is great, the tone is different but aspects on life and Buffy's back are really well done . It is clearly an important season but you can like more with time and then grew up. Enjoy it
Just so you know. When Buffy died in season 1 and Kendra came. Buffy has not been the official slayer since then. So Kendra died and Faith came in. If Faith were to die. That's when we would get a new slayer. That's what makes it even more special. Buffy is not the official slayer in the slayer timeline. Yet she still does it out of duty and honour.
For some reason this two-parter has been recognized as a solo episode in it's initial airing and on DVD's, but still counts as two episodes because of it's length. A part of me expected these two tov be reacted to together because of that (or if nothing else because it's a Part 1 & Part 2 story).
I like how the Scoobies are trying to hide Buffy's death from the magical world and the government but there's literally a headstone with her name on it in Sunnydale Cemetery. Lol
Ignore the people stating that Buffy's resuscitation in Season 1 has a single definitive canon reaction. The whole POINT is that it's unprecedented and NOBODY in world knows what it means. Viewers can speculate, and MAYBE some of the extended materials provide a true canon for Buffy's status as a "returned" Slayer... but your speculations are JUST as valid as anyones. I'll lay money that future episodes will have you scratching your head as to why so many people are so SURE on this stuff :P
