17:38 *And this was a foreshadowing moment of caddy, when he eventually got all of the platinum relics in every crash game to the point where he lost his mind, and when the world eventually turned into bricks*
I ALWAYS just found its best 9/10 times to keep moving under them rather than try to predict their arc and stand still, they do stay in the air for quite a while.
Honestly, in Piston it Away, I never even thought about leaving that tentacle enemy alive to get back up. I always just jump over the shrink ray with a slide and spin jump. Always did it that way on the PS1 version as well the N.Sane Trilogy version.
Its weird cos I always found the new jet ski controls way easier than the original game. Guess it just comes down to personal tastes and such, but yeah... I found it easier to just keep going rather than slowly edging to line up perfectly.
For Piston it Away, you can spin the shrink ray blasts to avoid taking damage, also you can slide, jump and spin in quick succession to gain extra height and distance in your jump to get up that big step! Aside from that, good vidder as always, Caddy. You're my favourite reviewer! :)

Hey Caddy! Most of these levels are pretty hard to get through but a tiny thing that will make Cold Hard Crash SLIGHTLY easier is that you can ride the death platform back into the main stage. So you get up to the platform without dying, do the route to the end, hit the exclamation box, run ALL the way back to break that first box and then ride the platform back to the main stage and continue along the level as normal. It means you don't have to backtrack the normal route or go through the death route 3 times like you are doing already. It is still hard though hahaha
Ik this vid is old so people probably won’t see this, but on levels like Cold Hard Crash where you have to backtrack to a death route platform, if you take the platform first and then die on it, it’ll stay there regardless of if you die trying to get back to it. Also in Piston It Away the jump you’re suppose to keep the crab for can still be done without it. If you slide and then jump while spinning at the same time you’ll get increased height which will let you jump over the shrink ray where you normally aren’t suppose to be able to. This jump is also super useful for skipping areas like the mole pits in turtle woods or just for making sure you get the height and distance to make some of the harder jumps.
I made it through Cold Hard Crash's Death Route without taking a single hit, made it to the end, and missed 3 boxes! That perfectly coordinated Death Route run was all in vein!
There's a glitch in the level too to do with the bonus stage. Done it on the original myself many times. And many times coming away with 154/155 boxes. Grr
on "diggin it" i remember going backwards through the bonus death route since I cleared the path and jumped on the right wall and cheesed my way back to the beginning of the branching path so I can go forward on the right path instead of backwards.

i think we need to teach caddy (sliding jump spin) the only way to get the height needed to pull of the jump in piston it away. and just an amazing technique in the game!
at first I didn't think I'd remember the stages too specifically but after watching the video the pain of doing every single one of these came rushing back. This list is exactly the stages that brought me the most grief trying to get all gems and time trials across the nsane trilogy. wonderful work caddy, I love your dedication to the orange rat we all love.
6:28 Should we tell him? I think we should tell him. Dear sweet Daddy Caddy, in the Nsane Trilogy, the bouncing barrels leave clearly visible cracks in the concrete where they land, and on the slanted metal grates they leave white paint splatters, and the bounce is always consistent, so I've never ONCE died in this stage by getting crushed by one of the barrels. It's actually one of the easiest colored gem stages in the game.
This is one of your best videos in a while. I don't know if it's your passion for Cash Bonjela but your transitions were slick, your descriptions were spot on and your overall analysis was entertaining. Loved it.
well that's odd... Dark Souls isn't nearly as hard as that game and I'd argue Crash and most difficult platformers are comparable to Dark Souls in terms of difficulty. Though comparing platformers and action rpgs is stupid, I just think people overestimate the difficulty of Dark Souls by a lot
The bouncing barrels are easy once you realize the scratches on the ground is where they always land. Also the hard levels Crash 4 makes these levels look like a walk in the park.
(9:18) That part shows what I hate the most with ice physics in Crash games. When you slide and hit something that stops you, you keep the momentum, which makes no sense at all. So you are stuck against the object as you're fighting the momentum that shouldn't exist, and if that thing moves away, you start sliding again. - The most common issue I have is that I slide across ice, hit a box and stop, then I either jump or destroy the box, and then he starts moving again at a fast pace since he still had the momentum.
I was sincerely hoping The High Road would be on the list, and you did not disappoint. That one was also the only Time Trial that gave me serious trouble in the N. Sane Trilogy.
Captain here : you can indeed avoid that shrink ray in Piston It Away. Simply slide on the first two platforms, and quickly jump over the first two shots. The shrink ray won't shoot another shot once you land, it can only shoot two at a time. Quickly jump afterwards, and you'll make it.
For the bouncing barrels in N. Sane Toxic Waste, they actually added faint impact markers to the ground to tell you where they'll bounce. So just position yourself on unmarked ground and you'll be fine. Timing's still a little tricky here and there, but once you see those marks on the ground it becomes one of the easiest levels in the game. - Lewis
6:18 caddy there are markers on the floor that tell you where they will land. The only problem I have with this level is that you have to time your jumps or spins perfectly or you will die.

What most people seem to do (myself included) is do the Death Route first, bullshit "!" box and all, and then just ride the platform down again.
Theres a trick or a hidden mechanic in the game (also works on the original crash 2 and 3) on how you can jump higher. On 10:09 without using those electric enemies, you can slide jump spin combo. No, its not the death tornado spin. In crash 2 and warped, theres this trick where you press spin as soon as you slide jump and it makes you jump higher than the normal slide jump. NOTE: you have to time it perfectly... You have to press spin, right at the moment crash flys off from his slide jump. Give it a try, It makes the game easier and faster to 100% complete. Im thinking about making a tutorial on that, if you guys need help doing it. EDIT: Someone already beat me to it. But I hope i helped though :)
BloxXor theres still new comers to the series. I have friends who played the original trilogy since the late 90s and they didnt know this trick, until now.
Toxic Waste was such a weird level for me, in that I managed to get the coloured gem on my first run through the level. Considering that so many other people had trouble with that level, I think I just got incredibly lucky running through it with very little thought
I'm one of the very few people who actually plays Road To Nowhere and The High Road legitimately, because I didn't know how to cheese a game when I was younger and I will still play it legitimately once I get the N. Sane Trilogy.
@ 10:16 you can spin slide jump to reach that platform without having to bounce off the electric tentical enemy in Piston it away. This trick also works in the OG version of Crash 2, as well. You can also spin away the orbs that shrink you.
You know Caddi... all those are everyone's toughest levels in PS1 cash banooka series, too. I managed to stay completely calm through them because I've been aware of their oddities after reading articles, guide books and forum threads before an initial run.
I know I'm about 2 years late on this. But I just recently started replaying Crash 1-3 in between playing Crash 4 and I noticed in the level Toxic Waste in Crash 1 at 6:12. If you look closely on the floor is some black spots indicating the bouncing barrels will always land on one of them. So when you see the black spots stop, wait for the barrel then go! Hope this will help you (Caddy) and many others get through this level much easier next time.

I found the toxic waste level very easy when I noticed that the bouncing barrels leave marks on the floor and always go in the same pattern. But the lack of depth perception is still a problem with the rolling barrels
I've known this trick for years - You can spin the electric shocks, so you don't need a Aku-Aku to safely traverse. Also you don't need the enemy to travel back for that one big gap, you can utuilise an easy trick - Slide, Jump and as you're ascending immediately hit Square and you'll get extra height if you did it right and you can make that gap easily.
For some reason, I found The Lost City much harder to get the gem for than Slippery Climb. In fact I found Slippery Climb to be easier than what everyone was hyping it up to be. Is that weird?
Aha, I see. Yes, well, I haven't been watching all his videos regularly for the past few weeks so I thought I missed like a big announcement or something. I hope he's doing alright.
maticfido I do as well man. Been watching him since 2013,and yeah. First mentioned it in the Celeste review back in march. Though he may of on twitter- that's a good place for announcements sometimes
Something doesn't have to happen for depression to occur. It can be chronic, and if he's on meds for it, his probably is. He just may have not mentioned it much before recently.
Whoa Caddy, I hope you’re doing good dude I know there’s good day and bad days, I have depression myself but I’ve recently come off my medication so I know it can be hard, hope the good days are more than the bad, keep being awesome mate
I remember I did Cold Hard Crash with not all too much trouble. The fact you can go back on a death route saves you the trouble of constant back-and-forth. Although yes, that means going through the level in two runs, but oh well. Better than having to go through that death route more than three times max, which you can even cheese with three Aku Aku.
@@aidanredding8058 Crash 1 is even more brutal if you play the PS1 version where you're not allowed to die once in any level to get it's gem, one of my proudest moments was when I got all the gems in the Ps1 version of Crash 1, I got all the gems and relics in Crash 3, getting those relics to gold is driving me nuts, as for Crash 2, some of those gems are cryptic
Also, mistake correction for Cold Hard Crash, as someone who went through it so many times, it's practically impossible to go through the main path and backtrack to the death route, since the first thing after that checkpoint is a down fall of which you can't get back up. Instead, you get to the end of the death route, hit that exclamation box, backtrack to the extra box, exit the route through the entrance, and proceed normally (that point felt like a BREEZE)
It took me a while to get over the new jump mechanics for Crash 1. I still don't like them very much but I've adapted. The bright side is that the original game is still worth playing for me!

Personally it was the same for me both on the classic and the remake.
I agree. The Lost City is tougher.
I too found Lost City much harder than Slippery Climb.
Thank you so much for the beginning Caddy

I swear, your videos are just some of the most well written on youtube.
Caddy is depressed? :( Did something happen?
maticfido nothing much has been said I don't think. Been here a while and he's only mentioned it very recently.
Maybe blame UA-cam? I don't know
I'll look into it, thanks.
Something doesn't have to happen for depression to occur. It can be chronic, and if he's on meds for it, his probably is. He just may have not mentioned it much before recently.
Hey Caddy, I recently plat'd Crash 1 and 2, and well, after that I lost the will to live and didn't continue with Crash 3.
*breats* 😂
"Orange Rat" has to be one of the best description for Crash I've ever head

Whoa Caddy, I hope you’re doing good dude I know there’s good day and bad days, I have depression myself but I’ve recently come off my medication so I know it can be hard, hope the good days are more than the bad, keep being awesome mate
"I think I'll get all the platinum relics in Crash Team Racing, that'll calm me down"
I mean, that's what I do
Getting the platinum relics in any Crash game is calming, at least it's calm after you've done it
I remember I did Cold Hard Crash with not all too much trouble. The fact you can go back on a death route saves you the trouble of constant back-and-forth. Although yes, that means going through the level in two runs, but oh well. Better than having to go through that death route more than three times max, which you can even cheese with three Aku Aku.
Crash 1 = Dark Souls but worse.
Crash 2/3 = A fun, balanced platformer that's easily worth your time.
Yeah, I love both Crash 2 and 3, but 1 was BRUTAL

Stop saying cortex power!

It took me a while to get over the new jump mechanics for Crash 1. I still don't like them very much but I've adapted.
The bright side is that the original game is still worth playing for me!
