I just switched from iPhone. I was an iPhone fanboy since 2011. I just got tired of the same phone coming out every year. But that's anothet conversation. I picked up the s20+, and overall I love it! I find it a little quirky at times and a few things aren't as smooth as iOS, but I find the experience much more enjoyable and personalized. My biggest complaint is there is no external volume switch to switch from silent to loud, and as great as these cameras are I still feel like the iPhone cameras might be a little better. I'm disappointed because that was one of the reasons I wanted to switch. I thought the galaxy line was supposed to be second to only the pixel. But it's still a great camera. I am coming from an iPhone XS Max so I'm a couple years behind on tech, but so far for an iPhone user, I have really enjoyed the switch. There are some things that need getting used to though. iOS has just mastered the user experience and overall is a much more refined OS, but it's too restrictive and boring. I may go back after this s20+, but for now, it's been an AWESOME experience!
It's funny since I'm actually probably doing the reverse. I've always been an android person besides having the iphone 4s. I really miss the iphones app polish as well as I like to play phone games and sometimes they just really lag and slow down in comparison to my experience with ios. I currently have the Note 9 and been debating between getting the Iphone 12 in october or getting the S20/s20+/s..30? next year. Samsung has by far been my most polished and well rounded android experience. I'd consider the pixel 5 if it's any good and worth it. However, it just seems to me it's better to wait until october before deciding and not just getting the s20/+ now. The s20+ just seems too large for me since it's one of my gripes with the Note 9. Besides that, I really love the personalization and what I can do. I added one hand operation + , great feature and I'm OCD with my organizing so I customize with Nova launcher. Which could kind've defeat the purpose of owning a pixel since it's purpose is to be a great stock phone and getting the features sooner. Then I have a reader app that i can't get on ios and a game emulator, so It's tilting me more towards sticking with android, I just wish I could use the apple watch and airpods since those to me are really great accessories that I'd love to try.
@@solarcj9313 hey I would recommend the s20 plus of note 20 ultra (Aug) if u want a cheaper phone note 10 plus from last August is still a beast. And I was apple fanboy also until I got the s20 plus 😍
Very informative review. I was planning to upgrade from an S7 to either s20+ or ultra, so looks like either way am in for a treat. Had thought to splash out on the ultra just because, but now not so sure based on this review and other, less indepth reviews which drew the same conclusion. Size wise may be quite a jump from an older s7 handset to a device as large as the ultra... plenty of food for thought. And a new subscriber to boot, good work!
I have the Ultra. I agree about the focus issues, even after the first "update" but thats not a big deal to me. Overall I love how this phone functions.
Had the ultra for a few days...seen some video's on the ultra and the S20 plus and sent the ultra back and ordered the plus. So far I love the plus and loved your comparison between the two. Great detail.
I actually want the s20+. Paying that much for the ultra with bugs is insane. I would hold out for the note but I've never had one. So personally I don't feel like I'm missing out. I could be wrong, but that's just my personal opinion.
I think the S series was better than the Note series last year. I think it comes down to whether or not you want the S Pen, that's the only major difference nowadays
I had to triple check that Sub count. This is perhaps one of the greatest reviews I have seen ever. I might call it a research/study while I'm at it. Subbed.
One of more sensible comparative reviews of S20+ and S20 Ultra, on UA-cam. I have just bought S20+ (directly from Samsung), based on brief use of friends S20, S10+ and P30 Pro. Whilst P30 Pro had superior camera specification, the Huawei firmware tends to over-compensate exposures in normal light conditions .... and I don't usually use phone, to take shots in poor light conditions, or for telephoto shots. I have full frame camera for that. Considering the phone for phone sake, with capability of taking "reasonable" camera shots on the go ... as the bonus, S20+ seemed the best option here. With the memory card slot, 12 GB Ram on board and higher spec 5G, the only drawback as I see it, is Samsung's use of Exynos 990 chipset (in UK), instead of Snapdragon 865.
Thank you. Yes the Exynos chip is disappointing. The gap between the 990 and SD 865 is particularly large this year - especially with power efficiency. It's not so bad that it makes the phone unusable though
@@insidetechltd I like the phone. More so, since Samsung pushed out the second firmware update (within 30 days, in UK). The close up shots in standard autofocus mode are now pin sharp, without having to resort to taking 5 shots, to find one that is acceptable.
after this review feel better going for the s20+ instead saved my self a few quid the only major differences are the ultra zoom maybe could be useful for perverts not me
I have the S20 ultra 5g Snapdragon.Overall, I love this phone so far, especially the battery. I use android auto, so my phone charges during my rides to and from work, and yesterday, right before i went to bed, my battery was at 88%! But I have also noticed the camera isn't that great. I take a lot of close pictures of receipts for business expenses, and they're all much less sharp than the pics from my previous S10+, some are even blurry. Also, i've noticed that at 120Hz, my google news feed in the Lawnchair launcher tends to freeze and lock up the phone after about 20 seconds of scrolling and reading. It doesn't happen at 60hz.
Getting here few years later. Looking to upgrade from S9+ to an S20 (want to keep sd card option for few more years) given the prices are so much reduced now. The S20 ultra, S20 plus, S20 fe 5g are all broadly the same price, especially looking at refurbished ones (~£350-400) - which is best to go for now in 2022? Have the camera issues been fixed now after few years of updates?
That Display mannnn 😍 It’s fire 🔥 If given a choice, I would trade my iPhone 11 Pro Max for the ultra in a heartbeat. I have really watched all the videos about it and man I want it real bad. The only problem is, my iPhone is just 4 months old and bought it for 1 lakh rupees here in India. So can’t really go for the ultra now. It is super expensive! But Now my iPhone screen is kind of looking small to me with big bezels and a notch 😭😭
Really is so good! Apple should have put the pro motion display in the 11 pros, they're falling behind now! You've got a great new phone though! There will always be new, exciting tech out. Maybe look again next year about upgrading, but for now you still have a great phone! Working on a full comparison with the Pro Max right now...
@@insidetechltd thanks for the reply! Yeah you r right. I bought iPhone 11 pro coming from an iPhone X. I think I should have waited for this year's launch as 11 pro's experience is same since 2017. So it's kind of getting boring at this point. Well now that I have brought iPhone 11 pro max, I will have to use it for another 3 years before upgrading as it's a very expensive device and I can't upgrade even Very other year. Cheers!
It's inevitable that not much will change each year, but you still made a bigger upgrade than if you had gone for a XS! Keep it as long as you can, it makes so much more sense - plus it'll still be a great phone in a couple of years. I review the new phones each year for work, but 100% don't think people should upgrade each year.
InsideTech thanks man. Have to keep my iPhone as I have no choice. But I’m still happy with what I have and I know many who would like to have my iPhone in place of their phone. So one is never satisfied. I get that..
People always has complain on Samsung innovation, look how they respond now, 1080p screen, no Micro SD, no MST flagship with plastic back! Thanks to all youtube reviewers 🔥🔥🔥
You'll get different answers depending on who you ask really. Some say all issues are now fixed, some initially had fixes and now it's worse, for others nothing has changed at all and some have even said it's worse now than before. For me i'm still getting issues - but you can't fix a hardware issue through software, sadly!
@@insidetechltd Thanks so much for your reply. Yours is the best, most honest review I've found out of all S20 model reviews. Looks like I will be going with the S20+. I know what you mean by hardware issues--I've had my fair share of them with computer hardware (the most recent being an ASUS motherboard).
I just got the ultra. haven't even unboxed it yet. looking at your video has me doubting this purchase. I want a great camera and you shattered that thought in this phone...
I'd say to still give it a try first. A lot of people are happy with the camera as it is, and others have said they no longer experience these camera issues. You might find that you're happy with it anyway!
im upgrading from a note9 to possibly a s20 i wasn't sure if i wanted to go ultra or + . after watching this video, im pretty confident that i will go with the + if i decide to stay with samsung. the upcoming sony has me very intrigued as well as the oneplus 8pro. thank you for this in-depth but straight to the facts video.
Did you still have focus issues after the ATCH update aimed to fix (came out March 20th for Snapdragon version). What firmware version was this shot with?
Yes I do, but there is an improvement. I'm working on gathering my full thoughts and experience with this - but most of the video hasn't changed. I'll update everyone as soon as I can!
Thank you so much for this in-depth review of all three phones and especially of the cameras. I got the ultra and I've had it for two days now but I'm seriously considering swapping it for the Plus because I don't like how big it is. Might even go with the s20 for its smallest size
Thanks for watching! If it's not too late, I would recommend you go for either the S20 or S20+. If you've got any doubts already, I think that shows that you won't be fully happy with the Ultra. The other two are better phones (and cheaper) so my recommendation would be to swap!
Thank you for the most detailed camera review of the S20 Ultra and S20+! I do hope you can have a side by side comparison of the iPhone 11 Pro Max and S20+. I consider the Ultra more inferior in camera quality than the S20+ and I don't really buy the zoom marketing gimmick as well.
With all the hate on the s20 ultra camera I believe Samsung will fix the issues with software updates but all in all the ultra have a camera platform that they can build on. Just imagine the possibilities with the ultra camera.
Does anyone know if Samsung ever updated the phone to allow 120hz @ WQHD (as mentioned at 6:27)? I was looking at buying an S20+, but that's pretty disappointing that you can't run it at WQHD 120hz.
I came here just to make sure that I've made a correct decision by choosing S20+ over S20 Ultra. This is by far, the most best comparison video of S20 Ultra and S20+. Well done! 👍👏
Samsung needs to change the approach of their flagship devices. I am a huge Samsung fan, and I have been since the Galaxy SII. Samsung used to create devices that were more advanced, priced more efficiently, and more feature packed than other smartphone markets (Google, Apple, etc.) It seems as of lately, they've rushed the production and release of their devices, pushing devices that will later receive an 'update', rather than perfecting the devices before they are released to the general public. For example, from 2012-2015, Samsung released their S line phones anywhere from April to June, and they were AMAZING. The S3 was feature packed and versatile, and the S4 drastically advanced on that theory. The S5 was more useful due to the better screen, battery life, and IP rating. The S6 was a huge reformation of the S-line, providing a gorgeous design, a multitude of usable features, and the best camera of 2015. Ever since the S7 in 2016, it seems as though Samsung is becoming complacent in their innovation. They produce phones with generally the same physical blueprint every year, similar cameras that no longer best Apple, Google, or Huawei, mid-ranged battery life, and devices that lost their edge in speed to Apple. Drab design and a small bevy of color options, removing stuff and charging extra to bring those features back. They're heading in the same direction as Apple, as well as the rest of Android devices, and frankly, I'm highly disappointed.
I actually agree with this. It does seem like Samsung are rushing production lately. The Galaxy Fold is another product that wasn't ready when it hit shelves for consumers - even after the modifications. But they were the first major company to mass produce a foldable on the market. I praise Samsung for their innovations and driving the industry forward, but the consumers are paying the price. As great as these phones are, the camera bugs are really disappointing
@Adam really appreciate your in-depth coverage. I was in the dilemma whether to go for S21+ or S21 ultra, and your S20 series comparison has saved me a few 100 bucks.. Thanks
i bought the ultra. and its an impressive phone. but i must say the camera has still left me a little confused, i came from a s9+ and we have a s10+ in the home as well and yet i struggle to get even as good pictures as i used to get with the old phones. but i hope it is a software issue that can be fixed. and there are cases where i see the potential. the 100x zoom is completely useless. and to be honest the 108mp is in most cases as well, the focus has such a small window that i struggle to take pictures with the object not partly blurred. but camera aside, the phone is mighty, and feels more impressive to me that my s9+ did when i got that 2 years ago.
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is the camera I purchased about 2 months ago and I got it as a replacement for my old phone had almost played out after about 7 years of use. So far I am pleased with my phone as I only use it for making calls and answering them, and occasionally internet access when away from my computers.
I left a comment 19 hours ago and I got the Samsung 20+. I'm still gonna use my Samsung 10 + for travel phone because its now unlock. Again Mahalo for you video. 🤙
Thank you for such an in-depth review. Saved me a great deal of time on research. I buy a phone only every 4-5 years or so, so I think the 20+ will be the right phone for me. Upgrading from my ancient Galaxy will be amazing and I think I can hang onto this for another good 5 years.
@@DoctorStrange489 S20+ is the ideal choice especially if he wants to keep it for 5 years, which am not too sure about that. however that will be more possible over the S10+ which is most likely to fall short of software updates within the next 5 years, I would keep it for the next 2-3 years and consider something like the S21+ or ultra or the S22+ until then this is a more realistic prospect to go with, hey this is just my opinion. you chose what you decide for yourself.
would you recommend getting the s20+ or the s10+ at this point? ignoring price and cameras while taking (onscreen) battery life, speaker quality and phone functionality as priority. im still conflicted if I should get the s10+ or the s20+, wished there was an inbetween between the two but ofc samsung wont allow ..
I still have and use my Note 10 Plus but now have both the Galaxy s20 Ultra and the Galaxy S20 Plus. I really love the S20 series especially the Ultra. I started with the S10e 2 years ago. I am definitely a Samsung Galaxy person.
It's great with no charge I have around 6 and have hours with the screen on, and I actually watch lots of UA-cam videos and play casual games on dayli basis so I think it's great but, you know it depends of each user.
When doing portrait mode photo on zoom lens what zoom level do they use? Is it 2x like on previous generations or this time around you can adjust zoom for portrait mode?
Do you know when you'll be releasing the update? I've heard Samsung's update for the S20 Ultra improves some of the auto focusing issues, and the night mode timing. But there remain issues because of limitations with Phase Detection Auto Focus. Any chance future 'Ultra' models could return to Dual Pixel, or is that not possible?
@@Mike-t5r9q The higher end models can use more bandwidths of 5G and the lower end spectrum that T-Mobile has deployed. A low and high bandwidth spectrum means that you would have more coverage and is more reliable. Verizon definitely needs it since the plus and ultra models have higher speed 5g capability b Verizon started with the higher speed but short range 5g but it is now pleading along with AT&T that T-Mobile be blocked from lower end spectrum in the future.
Great video, starting to subscribe now because of the quality of your content. If you can I would appreciate a backwards look at previous phones from Samsung vs the two. Would definitely like to see a 10+ & Note 10+ comparison to the 20+ & 20 Ultra. I think a consumer would appreciate a view on if the older models as t the cheaper price points are better for them and their wallet. 😏
Really appreciate the sub, thank you! I tried to tie in a few references to upgrades/feature changes and whether or not you should upgrade - but I understand the desire for a dedicated comparison video to older devices. I've got a pretty hectic schedule at the moment but i've taken this on board!
@@insidetechltd Totally understandable. I myself still have a S10+ and only made the jump because of my S8+ having a video/screen issue (hard to explain, without going long). I have noticed that even the other Chinese phone makers are going more expensive. I was super pisses the base Ultra is $1400 here. I struggled to find reasons to justify my S10+ last year. I enjoy being on the edge of technology but maybe it just doesn't make sense to do this anymore. I mean for $2k I could get a nice used car for my kid, I'm sure they would love that more than me on a new toy. 🙄 Anyway i plan on watching the older videos. Again, great job. Keep it up and you'll be getting more subs. 👍
Oh it doesn't make sense at all. I literally only upgrade all the time for work - there's no need to upgrade every year though. The S10+ is still an amazing smartphone - i'd recommend it over any of the new S20s for anyone to buy this year. It's nice to always have the newest tech, but the cycle never stops. There's always something new! Hold on as long as you can, then make the upgrade - i'm sure your kid would appreciate it too, haha! And thanks a lot, it really means a lot that people watch and comment on these videos. Have a lovely day!
I wish Samsung and Apple would only make a flagship model every 5 years that way I don't feel like a total dumbass for buying the last model a few months ago.

Exactly I have the xr been with Apple forever and I’m about to switch I just don’t know what phone
The galaxy phone cameras are better the s20+ has 8K 108MP iphone 11 pro max has 4K 12MP
I just got the s20+ I love it
I have the Ultra. I agree about the focus issues, even after the first "update" but thats not a big deal to me. Overall I love how this phone functions.
Wow best review yet....

Been using the S8+ for 3 years and have zero complaints and it's still better than the latest iPhone! :D
Had the ultra for a few days...seen some video's on the ultra and the S20 plus and sent the ultra back and ordered the plus. So far I love the plus and loved your comparison between the two. Great detail.
Thanks a lot! You've made the right choice I think!
Yeah I'm super happy I chose the plus
is it the same size
I actually want the s20+. Paying that much for the ultra with bugs is insane. I would hold out for the note but I've never had one. So personally I don't feel like I'm missing out. I could be wrong, but that's just my personal opinion.
I think the S series was better than the Note series last year. I think it comes down to whether or not you want the S Pen, that's the only major difference nowadays
Watching this 2 years later on my S20 Ultra. Could finally afford one 2 years later 😩 .. Love it
lol yeah pricey how much you get it for ? and are you getting the s24 next year?
Can’t wait for these phones to hit $150 in 3 years.
I had to triple check that Sub count. This is perhaps one of the greatest reviews I have seen ever. I might call it a research/study while I'm at it. Subbed.
That’s really kind, thank you!
This is beyond amazing! U deserve more recognition
Thank you so much! Means a lot!
@@insidetechltd
I like the phone. More so, since Samsung pushed out the second firmware update (within 30 days, in UK). The close up shots in standard autofocus mode are now pin sharp, without having to resort to taking 5 shots, to find one that is acceptable.
@@rickj8859 how is The battery?

Thank u so much for the review! Was debating with this 2 models for weeks now!
You're welcome!

It doesn't happen at 60hz.
are these flaws still present? or has any update fixed them?
Capella Qwerty yes, I actually got rid of the phone because I was so disappointed with it.
Dantastic so you dont know whether it was fixed or not?
Capella Qwerty it wasn’t when I last used it about 6 weeks ago
Dantastic ok thanks
Getting here few years later. Looking to upgrade from S9+ to an S20 (want to keep sd card option for few more years) given the prices are so much reduced now. The S20 ultra, S20 plus, S20 fe 5g are all broadly the same price, especially looking at refurbished ones (~£350-400) - which is best to go for now in 2022? Have the camera issues been fixed now after few years of updates?
I would suggest you still avoid the S20 Ultra. My recommendation remains the S20+, I think that's your best option!
@@insidetechltd i heard from other reviewers the s20 fe is really good. Do you still prefer the s20+ tho?
@@ethanogorman6198 ive heard fe is a downgraded spec phone that would not be a good idea.
That hole is not good
Wow Samsung s20+ has higher ppi than ultra (see display part)
Dude the smaller the screen the more pixels it has how do you not know this
And the regular s20 has it even higher

Since it 's been about two months since this review, have the camera issues been addressed via software updates, especially for the S20 Ultra?
You'll get different answers depending on who you ask really. Some say all issues are now fixed, some initially had fixes and now it's worse, for others nothing has changed at all and some have even said it's worse now than before. For me i'm still getting issues - but you can't fix a hardware issue through software, sadly!
@@insidetechltd Thanks so much for your reply. Yours is the best, most honest review I've found out of all S20 model reviews. Looks like I will be going with the S20+. Thank you so much for this in-depth review of all three phones and especially of the cameras. I got the ultra and I've had it for two days now but I'm seriously considering swapping it for the Plus because I don't like how big it is. Might even go with the s20 for its smallest size

Thanks
Glad to hear it, thanks a lot!
i bought the ultra. and its an impressive phone. but i must say the camera has still left me a little confused, i came from a s9+ and we have a s10+ in the home as well and yet i struggle to get even as good pictures as i used to get with the old phones. but i hope it is a software issue that can be fixed. and there are cases where i see the potential.
the 100x zoom is completely useless. and to be honest the 108mp is in most cases as well, the focus has such a small window that i struggle to take pictures with the object not partly blurred.
but camera aside, the phone is mighty, and feels more impressive to me that my s9+ did when i got that 2 years ago.
I think a lot of people are experiencing the same thing as you. Like you said though, hopefully it’ll just keep improving with software updates!
The Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus is the camera I purchased about 2 months ago and I got it as a replacement for my old phone had almost played out after about 7 years of use. So far I am pleased with my phone as I only use it for making calls and answering them, and occasionally internet access when away from my computers.
Your phone can do so much more than that! But as long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters
That's how the in depth review should be done.

Glad I could help!
Im curious what phone do you have now?
@orion1836 I would suggest the S10+, cheaper and a better device in terms of battery optimization
