Its not like all asian are 'model minority'. There plenty who are 'trapping' selling drugs doing typical gangster stuff (indonesia at least, idk about other countries), but they are not rapping. I think thats because middle to upper class has more resource to access western culture. There are another path to build authenticity other than being 'gangster' or 'trapping'

Holy shit I've been following 88rising since Rich Chigga uploaded his first MV, I've seen their earlier collab with the Pink Guy and then Joji, but I didn't know they were the same person. Awesome! I also see 88rising as a bridge between East and West, and as a big fan of many aspects of the Asian culture, I really respect that. Asian culture is very beautiful and complex. They are half of the world and they have many unique artists that can delight us in entirely different ways. Many people are too narrow-sighted and remain complacent with whatever's promoted in their region, too lazy to search themselves for things they might like. I like a lot of stuff and many of my favorites happen to be of Asian origin. When I see something I like it or dislike it based on my taste alone and not some prejudice.
I don't know how much I was expecting from this, but I love it. I didn't even know anything about the founder, or that Rich Chigga was seriously a native Indonesian who learned English (his accent in everything is just so American-sounding, it's uncanny). And then I wasn't sure how exactly Joji got involved with 88. Now I do. Stuff like this can and should keep happening.
