I don't want no popular girl, I don't want no popular boy, I want Jimi Jamison :) what a voice! He died too soon. One of my favorite men. Survivor = great great band, Frank Sullavan = brilliant guitarist. Long live Survivor! Long live talented American artists!
Is there any song that Jimi doesn't sing great? Still listening to his singing daily, whether with Survivor or solo CDs, unreleased music or One Man's Trash History, Cobra, Target. His singing was amazing until his passing. His silver tenor voice is perfection. All of the musicians in Survivor were fantastic too. Love the multi-talented Jim Peterik. 👏

I have that book, and you're right, it's awesome. you're also right that Jim Peterik is one of the greatest songwriters in not just rock music history, but music history period.

Wow. I was 19 in 1984 when "Vital signs" came out. I wore that cassette out in my walkman. Jimi Jamieson was equally as good if not better than Steve Perry. ( No disrespect to Steve Perry.) Remember Survivor fans, "It's the singer, not the song"

Regardless if it's their original Lead-Singer Dave Bickler or his replacement the late, great highly underrated Jimi Jameson, "Survivor's" quality of music was top-notch all because of the entire backing of the band themselves not just the two respective vocalists.
Loved this song, and so many other less known songs he sang. RIP Jimi

You know someone is a truly incredible vocalist when he can bring musical interest to an otherwise lackluster song.
That said, Jimi and the bandmembers in Survivor were a match made in heaven. With the right songs, they rose high above a pleasant or catchy melody with instrumental backing. They soared, creating an experience that could bring alive the deepest of emotion. I didn't just "like" or "enjoy" their work, but FELT the melancholy journey of "The Search is Over," the playful joy of "High on You," and the rousing determination of "Burning Heart" and "Eye of the Tiger." And what of "Man Again the World?" Jimi's vocal layers and the band's perfectly in sync dynamic bring me from the contemplative solitude of the first verse, to the confidently self-reliant energy of the last.

Something I've always found curious is that the album version of Popular Girl (on Vital Signs) is 3:40, but every "extended version" including live versions such as this one, or the one on their extended versions CD, is 3:10, exactly 30 seconds SHORTER, and it's the only song actually shortened rather than extended.

Agreed, what I also wonder is why is it that on every live video of this classic, why is it actually half a minute SHORTER than on Vital Signs (the record it was released on in 1984)? on the Vital Signs album, it's 3:40, but even on the "EXTENDED VERSIONS: CLASSIC TRACKS" CD, it's only 3:10, just like this video.
@@ColeKeleher I think that's just how they decided to play it live. Instead of "dragging it out" for that other half a minute, their decision was to just end it earlier for some reason.
