What You Tube is all about, rare film of giants, non more so than the great George Wettling.Don't get fooled that there does'nt appear to be much going on.This man could do stuff that you can't learn from any book.Brilliant!!! More please.
Wild Bill, Ed Hall, Willie, all are superb. If I was banished to a desert island with only 10 videos, THIS one would be at the top. Many thanks TradJazzAlways
I would give nearly anything to go back in time and spend the night hanging out at Eddie Condon’s - I imagine a smoky place smelling like stale beer and great music pouring off the stage. Sounds good to me, I would’ve gone a lot had I been born then!
So nice. A legendary clip. It makes me hungry for more. Wouldn't it be a dream come true if the whole show could be shown on television again,and/ or made into a DVD for the marketplace.
Lucky you - that’s a memory to treasure. Swinging, joyous improvised music in a smoky bar filled with happy revelers tapping their feet and forgetting their troubles … sounds damn good to me!
Tastes change - but we should demand traditional New Orleans/Chicago style jazz to make a comeback - the world can really use this joyous, swinging music again
@@bobboscarato1313 hey you never know…swing dancing and sort of watered-down big band music made a comeback in the 1990s, hot jazz could make a comeback during these horrible times in the world-the world can really use some happy powerful music to take our minds of craziness. Yeah-Hip Hop lyrics can get dark, not very uplifting, powerful and political but not really up and positive. And the grooves are samples and drum machine vibe-interesting but cold.
Too bad the video slips off several times on this because the venue is really the way I think this music should be seen--- up close and personal and with little background distraction. G. Wettling was the perfect drummer for this kind of Hot Jazz IMO. Cutty's solo got mangled my the video but what a giant player he was!
I don’t think there was ever,or will ever be, a better Dixieland band than those put together by Eddie Condon. Simply brilliant
Great artist Bill Davison ❤

Hall's tone is so awesome!
You got that right!

The father of a member of the band I used to play had been to Eddie Condon's place and said they always were totally smashed (full of alcohol)..!
sehr gut! alte Music!
Ed Hall!!!!

Me too. The memory is still fresh.

@@32mcweston what a gift - Condon’s must’ve been a blast. You still in NY?
Wild Bill is amazing. Great song from a great band.
Willie The Lion Smith with stellar stride as always and Cutty Cutshall burned it up too. It's surprising how much Cutty looks like Jack Teagarden,
thank you, thank you, thank you, pappy.
That ending is really cool with the drums pacing away and then that E sharp on the piano three times! 3:48

@@rhythmfield I agree with you but doubt very much it will happen again. Rappers took over; bad taste; foul language is today's thing!
