2:20 Hagrid also says in the first book (when he’s trying to decide which pet to get Harry for his birthday) that he doesn’t like cats and they make him sneeze :)
They didnt use hippogriffs to fly to the ministry because thestrals have an amazing sense of direction and know exactly where to go once told. Also flying on hippogriffs would take some time, I think, because there has to be mutual respect first while thestrals are very gentle.
The demeanor of the creatures was my guess as well. An invisible-yet-gentle death pegasus seems like a better idea to me than a potentially volatile eagle horse. That said, if they were going into open battle in the sky I'd opt for the hippogryphs since it would be *badass*... And cuz we don't have much information on how dangerous a thestral might be in a fight.
Maybe also to stay invisible. A flying person on an, for most people on the world (cause let's be honest not many people see the exact moment someone dies), invisible creature on a night sky is almost invisible, but huge grey bird-horses could be much easier spotted, even in the night.
They left the thestrals in the alley when the gang entered the ministry, so muggles probably would not notice 6 invisible creatures. But would definitely notice 6 very visible and easy to anger hippogriffs. Also it says that the thestrals are incredibly fast. Making the journey to London in something like an hour. Note that Hogwarts is probably at least 300 miles away. Hippogriffs are not nearly as fast
I read this headcannon, it said that Harry bought Hagrid a wand (which wouldn’t be legal but okay) and Hagrid’s patronus, after learning the spell, was Hedwig and it made me cry because it was so sweet
When I read that why did I imagine his patronus being the Hedwig personality from split. Now I laughing imaging everyone being confused why hagrids patronus looks like James mcavoy
I still choose to believe that he's one of those people who names a cat Tiger because it's cute to call things intimidating names when they aren't threatening, and vice versa. XD
If my patronus was a spider I'd actually run *toward* the dementors away from it. Just the idea of a *GIANT SPIDER* protecting me makes about as much sense of Umbridge and Snape hookin up! 😂😂
The reason why Harry and company used thestrals instead of hippogriffs (lol how do we even write that) was bc the thestrals came to them because Harry and Hermione smelled of blood. Also because Luna kept insisting on using thestrals and bc thestrals know where to go if you just tell them. Like, the trio, Neville, Luna and Ginny had no idea where the ministry of magic was and if they decided to use thestrals they would just need to tell the thestral where to go and they're off. I mean, maybe hippogriffs would know where to go but it would've been too complicated to look for them and then bow down, hope they accept you, etc when the thestrals were right there. Remember, Harry was in a rush to save Sirius. Edit: sorry if that was long
I am of the opinion that since the memory he draws on to cast his patronus is meeting lily or something involving lily, it was always a doe. There is a decision to be had as to whether you patronus can have a form before you are able to cast it though, it seems to me that the point of this discussion is moot as it would be impossible to tell with 100% certainty what the form would be without casting it. I wonder if the memory you draw in plays a role in the form of your patronus, surely tonk's changed because the memory she draws on changed from whatever it was before to something involving lupin, possibly their wedding. And Harry's memory is of his parents thus the stag
I think it’s stated in the book that thestrals are able to locate exactly where you need to go None of them really knew how to get to London and so the thestrals were the better option been awhile since I reread the books and don’t know which page but I believe it was stated during Hagrids first lesson back in book 5
You guys should make a video of all the patronises we know so far and the explanation of why they are what they are if ever explained or even theorized the ones without an explanation.
If it would be an acromantula, I'm glad he can't cast a patronus. 😱 I'm voting dragon for Hagrid. After Aragog's death, he said the others were acting pretty nasty. I don't think he has the same love for all acromantula(s?) as he does for literally every dragon he's ever seen.
Jn Msks maybe it would've been an aromantula up until Aragog died but after that Hagrid's love of acromantulas faded and his patronus changed to a dragon
he still loved acromantulas. at the Battle of Hogwarts when they penetrated the castle, he jumped in and shouted "dont hurt them" even forgetting that there was a battle going on.
I was thinking the same. Especially since Hagrid raised him from an egg, quite possibly his first pet. He entroduce him to his wife and tried helping him through his sickness before burying him. Also, Hagrid's seemed to be kind of an outsider in the realm of Hogwarts and misunderstood. With his height, he may even seem intimidating. Seems like he could relate very much to a spider.
Thestrals sense of direction was probably the reason they chose them over the hippogriffs. Being able to tell the thestral where they wanted to go would have been easier than trying to direct the hippogriffs to London
5:32 There's a very easy to figure out reason: The hippogriffs are much, MUCH, more temperamental than the thestrals, and there's no way to be sure that they would've let all of them ride on their backs all the way to the MoM.
Plus the kids did not know where the ministry was and the thestrals have an amazing sense of direction. Also they do not know where hagrid keeps the hippogriffs since they were always brought to class and we never run into them in all our forays into the forest with the trio, but the thestrals came to them drawn by the scent of blood.. Convenient plot device but whatever.
So since Thestrals can only be seen by those who've witnessed death, does that mean most people can't see them in Patronus form? What about someone who's Patronus is a Thestral (ie Ben), but hasn't seen death- would they go through life thinking that they don't have a Patronus?
I don't think someone who hasn't witnessed death would have a Thestral as a Patronus. But in regards to other people seeing their Patronus, I think they'd see some sort of shapeless light or shadow where the Thestral Patronus would be.
James Potter's Patronus: Stag (Male Deer) Lily (Evans) Potter's Patronus: Doe (Female Deer) (Hers was a female deer because James's Patronus was a Stag, this was because Lily loved James) Severus Snape's Patronus: Doe (Love for Lily) Harry Potter's Patronus: Stag (Love of his parents)
A thestral as a patronus. Interesting. Does that mean that if you haven't seen someone die in front of your eyes, that you can't see your own patronus? How will you know if you cast the spell?
If the dementors fled you would know it worked, also I don’t think anyone who hasn’t witnessed death would have a thestral as a patronus because the usually are animals based on your personality or memories, not just some random animal
@@thathsaraamarasinghe6774 theres a big debate on wether its vol de mort, or vol de more the reason why people say the latter is because its french and means flight from death
Yes I also always thought that he was afraid to spell it I mean sure he was was not able to learn magic after the second year but surely he knew how to spell the name Voldemort, right?
i'm thinking Japanese giant hornet. think about it: it is a venomous, armoured, flying creature with an attitude that smells, which is right up swagrids alley, it has giant in the name, thus hinting at hagrids "secret" nature without it needing to be an actual giant and it is a creature really only swagrid could find any redeeming values in.
They don't use the hipagrifs because the thestrals can go any where you tell them to so even if you dont know where Hogwarts is in relation to anything the thestral can still get you there.
Good points, also the thestrals were just who happened to show up. They were attracted to the smell of Grawp's blood on Harry and Hermione, so they were the quickest and first ride available.
My favorite animal has been a Lynx for ages and when I did the Pottermore partonis test, it was a Lynx! That held me away and now I'm sure that the creators of that test put a lot of work into it.
Seems to happen time to time. My girlfriend works with horses and her whole life is based around horses. And you guessed it. She got a horse patronus. One of the most fun moments ive had! Her face was like ; "No way..." Mine's a Leopardes. Would have loved a otter but hey Leopards are beautiful.
ya well, my favourite animal is a Raven and/or Crow, I would have been quite happy with any other bird though too (I owned parrots once, really like birds). however, pottermore gave me a horse instead... I don't like horses... the closest Connection to horses for me would be that I'd like to get myself a Harley Davidson one day, but riding a bike isn't exactly like riding a horse, you know. thx pottermore...
Alex Bucur I read that the horses are a rather common patronus to get, as they are rather common amongst the wizarding world. None is supposedly exactly the same, but the family of the horses rely to human beings a lot. So it would seem that the first law about patronusses seems to be in play here; there is something about your personality and that of horses that work well together and may only come up when needed
Yo Harry your a wizard! Harry goes to Hogwarts he meets Ron and Hermione McGonagall requires to play to Gryffindor Draco’s a daddy boy Quirell becomes unemployed The sorceror’s stone is destroyed by Dumbledore
harry blows up aunt marge the dementors come and take charge lupin is a wolf the rats a man and now the prisoner is at large they use time travel so they can save the prisoner of azkaban who just so happens to be harry's godfather i don't rely get it either
There is a meme somewhere on the Internet combining a picture of Hagrid with a scene from Disney's Hercules when Hagrid says that he got Fluffy from a Greek wizard
considering Kerberos means "spotted" and "spot" one of the most common cute-dog names, it's not too far fetched that the hound of hades, guardian of the underworld would be called fluffy. however Kerberos is usually depicted as being part snake, usually having snakes coming from his back, being his tail, or being his manes/more heads (tho he has also been depicted/described as having 50/100/2/1 head(s) a venomous mouth, three tongues/backs/bodies/tails...) so there's no way to be certain.
When J said that Fluffy was (loosely paraphrasing) a giant dog of the underworld, and then that he was sent 'back' to Greece, it made me think. Three-headed dog. Greece. "Dog of the underworld." What if Fluffy is Cerberus? Or one of Cerberus's relatives? It would make sense.
That's what he's supposed to represent, I don't know if he is actually Cerberus but it's possible. Especially looking from a literature enthusiast's standpoint (aka me) any time you see a trap door, or a tunnel going down, or anything like that, you should immediately think UNDERWORLD
U, Me, and Katie B I do not believe that Greek mythology - or, for that matter, any mythology - exists in the Wizarding World. In "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" (book), some beasts included in it were the Chimaera and the Hippocampus, two well-known mythological Greek beasts, with no however mention of Poseidon, the God of the Sea and Horses, or Echidna, the Mother of Monsters, or Typhon, the Father of Monsters. Though, I do believe that certain Greek Heroes exist, like Bellerophon, the Hero who slayed the Chimaera on a Pegasus, as it talks about the only known instance of a Chimaera being killed was when a wizard killed it while on a Winged Horse. This goes to show that the Greek Heroes might actually have been wizards. Though, if the Greek Gods, or any Gods/Godesses in the Wizarding World are real, for that matter, I do not know,
Honestly, as soon as I saw the title of the video I thought to myself "It's gonna be Aragog, duh..." I like your logic and reasoning, and not a waste of time... Just because Hagrid cannot produce the corporeal form doesn't mean it's spirit doesn't dwell inside him.
I think Hagrid's "awakened secret self" has nothing to do with the fact that he's half giant. Yes he was upset when that "secret" was brought to light, but I still feel like he's mostly accepting of his genetics. What he's not completely ok with is the fact that he's not a "certified" wizard. He keeps the fact that his broken wand is still always on his person and somehow able to perform at least simple magic a very big secret. And no one seems to notice that he can perform those spells silently. He's a wizard who's not allowed to be a wizard. So I think his awakened secret self would have more to do with being a full fledged, fully trained and accepted magic user than who his mother was.
This is why I think after the end of the series when Kingsley Shacklebolt is made Minister of Magic, Hagrid is allowed to finish his education taking any of the classes he wants and is allowed to have a wand.
If I could choose Hagrid's patronus I would say a type of dog, possibly something like a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Staffys are known for being wonderful family animals and for their loyalty and energy. This description does kind of fit Hagrid, even though I do agree with this video.
Yes, I agree! He is a fiercely loyal friend. Remember when the wizards set his house on fire while Fang was in there? Or how he became when anyone insulted Dumbledore? He is only angry in defense of others and what's right. I think a Staffy makes a great patronus for Hagrid.
I always thought of hagrids patronis as a dragon but Aragog makes sense. Mine on pottermore is a weasel if I could choose... a night furry yep! Toothless😍
I think Aragog's size in Chamber of Secrets was due to his legs being spread out, where as they're curled up after his death. Not to mention, he probably looked bigger compared to smol Harry and Ron as opposed to older Harry.
I’m always thinking the same when seeing this scene and it bothers me too! But maybe he’s all dried out and shrunk ... which wouldn't be logical either, because dead spiders don’t shrink, but then he’s an Acromantula. They might be different ... Trying very hard to find an explanation here ... 😄
At the beginning of the video, I definitely thought Hagrid would have a mother grizzly bear patronus. He is very loving, and if you mess with the people he cares for, he's gonna defend them. But I definately agree with J's theory!
Kraken... Hagrid's patronus is a kraken. "Greatly misunderstood beasts, krakens" (I bet you read that with Hagrid's voice) Just kidding lol I was actually guessing that an acromantula would be the best choice for Hagrid, and then you brought it up! Day made
Could you plz do a video where you make a theory where you try to determine why Harry couldn't see the Thestral after he saw professor Quirrell AND his mom die. Thanks, I am a big fan.
Just thought about this and I don't think Harry actually saw Quirrel die. I'm pretty sure he passed out and then Dumbledore came to save him so he didn't actually see it happen. Harry wakes up in the hospital wing and warns dumbledore about quirrel and the dumbledore has to tell him that he died. With his mom this may be sort of a technicality but even though he was in the room we don't know for sure that he saw her actually die. I think when they talk about this they just say Harry remembers seeing a flash of green light. Cedric is the first person he actually sees die.
He has to understand the death he witnessed. He didnt understand his mothers death at all and he didnt truly witness the death of Quirrel. With Cedric he first understood it for real after he had been a summer at the Dursley's. That is why he didnt see the thestrals when going home from Hogwarts.
And I think I read somewhere that Rowling has said that he didn't see them in the end of goblet of fire when they went back to the train because it would be stupid to put a new mystery in the very end of a book that you could only explain in the next one.
I think a bear would fit Hagrid's personality quite well. Most of patronuses we see so far don't seem to have any direct logic or relevance to people in the way that we see with Dumbledore or even Snape. When has Hermione ever mentioned loving otters? But it 'fits' her. The rabbit/hare 'fits' Luna. The horse 'fits' Ginny. I see Hagrid as a grizzly.
The Patronus shape fits the characteristics of the one casting it. For example, if someone is stuborn, the Donkey would fit them as a patronus. It's way more complicated than that, but I aggre on that the shape of Patronus doesn't have anything to do with what animal the person likes the most. In that case why Harry's patronus isn't an Owl? It has to do with ones characteristics- both physycal and mental. For that reason I think that Bear would Suit Hagrid very well, as he is Very Strong, Brave and Caring Person :)
Noone: Watching the video like it's any other day Me+ other Greeks: Thanks Dumbledore for sending back unantended a three headed dog and setting it loose in a small country
Before watching the video I would guess Hagrids patronus would be a dragon or a spider. Dragon seem like it couldn't be an option because patronuses are usually more "simple creatures". So I guess my money is on spider. Aragog was a pretty big deal for Hagrid after all. Btw, I just made a video sinning the cinemasins eww HP and the Goblet of fire (and all the previous ones). give them a look if interested :)
I think Jo is grossly underestimating Hagrid. I agree he couldn't produce a patronus but only because he hasn't been taught how. The magic he performs with a broken wand at least proves he was talented. I think it would have been Arogog also or perhaps something to do with Dumbledore.
Thank you, seriously. Like the fact Hagrid can get a wand that was snapped in pieces to even do what he wants shows he has amazing latent ability. If he was allowed to complete his training he'd be a powerhouse. Nothing pisses me off more than the misspelled birthday cake in the first film - he can't spell Voldemort, which I doubt a lot of people would be able to if they only ever heard the name and not seen it written down a bunch of times like we all did. In the books Hagrid's letters to Harry are always spelled correctly. The movies make him out to be the oaf people like the Malfoys say he is. Also took issue with Jay not mentioning Hagrid was framed. That's why he lost his education, not because of something he did, but what Riddle did. It was admirable of him to protect Aragog, and that doesn't make his expulsion remotely his fault.
Mac Curran I know she wrote him haha but the way she talks about the characters- and has stated many times- is that they kind of existed on their own in her head and she just wrote it down. She created him but isn't him if that makes any sense? Probably not haha but yea all fiction really so I guess every theory is valid. She even talks about how Dumbledore was a voice that came from the back of her head and that he helped her a lot. :) But I also totally get what you're saying and I like that you said it without being super rude haha :)
Emerson Andrews yes, it always breaks my heart that we don't really get to see what he could have been had he been given the opportunity. So much potential and his chance just taken away from him and he doesn't even begrudge Voldemort his education.
Um J I don't mean to be rude but I did some patronus research and here's what I found. " Fox Terrier - This is a small yet fearless dog that loves being outside and around people. If you have this Patronus, you are spunky and loyal. They work well in teams, so when teaming up with other Patronuses, you can't be beaten. " and..... "Thestrals - Thestrals get a bad reputation as unlucky omens, probably due to their spooky appearance and association with death. The reality is that these intriguing creatures, which are only visible to people who have witnessed death and accepted its significance, are gentle and kind. Thestrals can fly at incredibly fast speeds and have a keen sense of direction. If the herd that lives in the Forbidden Forest is any indication, Thestrals can be extremely loyal to their human friends and will fiercely attack their enemies. This makes the Thestral an intimidating and powerful Patronus. "
I got a Dragon for a Patronus. It seems the complete opposite of me. I'm a quiet, introverted guy yet I got a fierce, destructive creature as a Patronus. I kinda like it.
Hippogriffs are not as fast or efficient as Thestrals, and they have a much shorter effective range of travel. Thestrals have a range of ove 500 miles, and can fly at speeds of up to 170 miles per hour, only matched by the fastest of racing-specific broomsticks.
To be honest I'm rather confused with my paronus I'm in RAVENCLAW and my patronus is....... a BADGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LIKE WTF ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME?!?! _sorry for typos_
I think what you're referring to is how Harry first imagined a patronus. "Harry had a sudden vision of himself crouching behind a hagrid-sized figure holding a large club."
Giants are (somewhat) sapient. Or, they can breed with humans, anyway...I kinda think that would rule them out, or McGonagal and the Mauraders would be casting their human-selves vs their animagi forms as their patronuses
Sam Klein well I guess Arragog'a was his first pet, because he had Arragog in his 3rd year, the year Tom Riddle opened the Chamber of Secrets 50 years before Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Aragog was the first pet Hagrid had He sneaked it into hogwarts. Even when Aragog waa the reason he had been expelled, he loved him and cared for him On the other hand he himself didn't like Fang that much because he was not Hagrid's kind not some big beast
I think Hagrid would love all creatures equally but, Aragog was with him from his time as a student. I feel like hed have a very deep attachment, friendship and love for Aragog. (As much as that thought terrifies me)
I took the patronus quiz yesterday and it kept on saying “just one more” “just one more”.... Then at the end it said “your very confusing patronus is a lynx” Thanks pottermore like to see I am weird
It's Umbridge ffs. She hates children, half-breeds, muggleborns, beasts, and beings. Also she liked the Malfoy family including Draco Malfoy. The attack on Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban could also have an effect on her choice to remove the Hippogrifs.
Omg yes, Aragog is absolutely the perfect patronus for Hagrid - although might I add that I imagine Hagrid's patronus would take the form of a younger Aragog? Little, terrier sized Aragog from back when Hagrid got expelled rather than massive car sized Aragog from when Harry met him in Chamber of Secrets Also I am very offended - CATS ARE AWESOME how dare you My patronus would absolutely be a cat, my best friend, Luna. She went missing a couple years ago but she'll hold a place in my heart forever.
As to why Harry and Co. rode thestrals and not the other hippogriffs I think is because hippogriffs can be seen by anyone and thestrals can only be seen by those who have seen death. So the majority of muggles wouldn't be able to see them.
Hagrid also states that thestrals are very clever. A trained thestrals, such as Hagrids, would be able to understand their rider's words when they ask to travel to a specific location.
Viktor vesterlund that's also very likely. And thestrals are used to having the kids around and hippogriffs are a bit finicky with who they let ride them.
These are all good points, but simply the thestrals were what was immediately available. They came to the six students on their own because they smelled Grawp's blood on Harry and Hermione, thus riding the thestrals came to mind immediately whereas the kids would have had to go through a lot of extra effort to find Hagrid's hippogriffs, earn their respect by bowing, etc.
Seriously? You are going to rant about the 3 headed dog that stayed 1 year and not the motherfucking giant spiders in the Forest? Why didn't Dumbledore sent Aragogue back? There is no way he didn't know about them.
86upsmaya, yes, he was born in Hogwarts, but he wasn't native of that area and keeping him inside school grounds sound way too dangerous, even if in a "forbidden area"
Alexandra Buss I'd be unhappy too due to my severe arachnophobia and Aragog being an asshole to anyone but Hagrid (even his friends), but to be fair having them in the forest did prove to be beneficial in the end considering Aragog's children came to the rescue during the Battle of Hogwarts. They defended their territory from evil and got extra snacks out of it (lol). I'm sure some of the Death Eaters probably freaked the fuck out just from seeing them charge at a distance haha
Mine is a polecat, which I guess is fine, but I had to look it up because I didn't even know what it was, so I'm still not sure it's right. (It's kind of like a ferret)

Despite very few opportunities to practice, Hagrid seems pretty good at magic. We never see him mess up a spell or need a second try, so I don't know why JK says he wouldn't be able to cast a patronus, especially since Harry seems to teach every member of the DA how to. Is she saying that no matter how much he practiced, no matter how much Harry taught him, he'd just never be able to? That seems unlikely.
The words "i should not have said that..." manifest as his Patronus.

6:48 I actually remember that is said his patronus was "the size of a giant" aka Giant sized, not a giant itself.
I can sleep with one eye open.
Dolphins can sleep with one eye open.
My patronus is a dolphin.
Coincidence? I THINK NOT.
Susan Payne
Wow
Mind blown
Nice burnie impression.
Mind blown af👍
I also have a dolphin patronus
Potter more watched u sleep
Jn Msks ehh, he probably just saw it as grief, which I imagine was actually the case since they all lost their father
Jovan Bergh only difference being the spiders were actual assholes
Thestrals sense of direction was probably the reason they chose them over the hippogriffs. Being able to tell the thestral where they wanted to go would have been easier than trying to direct the hippogriffs to London
also j I think this come to forget I cannot tell them apart but also a natural could totally be a little terrier just saying they are awesome
@@lahlybird895 what?
@@leahflops9425 ahhhh.
I have no idea what my phone did to my reply O.o :-/
@@lahlybird895 what were you trying to say tho
Jawa good question. I'm trying to remember
I have a question, How did Snape make his own spell?
Yes HOW ARE SPELLS MADE
AA Games well in the half blood price Snape used his potions book to help such and sempra (or secrum not sure) means slice.
Chomp ASMR Secrum is correct
By the power of latin.
Knowing latin basically lol that's what most of the spells are
So since Thestrals can only be seen by those who've witnessed death, does that mean most people can't see them in Patronus form? What about someone who's Patronus is a Thestral (ie Ben), but hasn't seen death- would they go through life thinking that they don't have a Patronus?
Kyle Fecher you can see what they do. That should count for something.
I doubt it, it's not an ACTUAL thestral, just a representation.
Lucy Cairns meaning, in theory, people who havent witnessed death are able to perceive how thestrals look?
DracoSerpentisCruor
Yes. Like a shadow, they'd see the representation but not the real article.
I don't think someone who hasn't witnessed death would have a Thestral as a Patronus. But in regards to other people seeing their Patronus, I think they'd see some sort of shapeless light or shadow where the Thestral Patronus would be.
What could it be?!
Before I clicked on your video, I was thinking mainly dragon, because of its size and Hagrid's obsession with one.
I dunno
SuperCarlinBrothers mines a dolphin. I love your theory. Definetly goin for that one! Keep doing what you’re doing. Love your channel
SuperCarlinBrothers prediction it’s an acromantula (is that how you spell it)(I mean big spider)
Holly Feldhousen I think it should be a dragon to
James Potter's Patronus: Stag (Male Deer)
Lily (Evans) Potter's Patronus: Doe (Female Deer) (Hers was a female deer because James's Patronus was a Stag, this was because Lily loved James)
Severus Snape's Patronus: Doe (Love for Lily)
Harry Potter's Patronus: Stag (Love of his parents)

Even while you were pointing out horses and buckbeak and a three headed dog I was thinking the entire time "a spider" because of Aragog
A thestral as a patronus. Interesting. Does that mean that if you haven't seen someone die in front of your eyes, that you can't see your own patronus? How will you know if you cast the spell?
Nyntje 347 a patronus is a projection, not the actual thing. So I think you would see it. And probably freak out if you don't know what it is.
you made my brain hurt
If the dementors fled you would know it worked, also I don’t think anyone who hasn’t witnessed death would have a thestral as a patronus because the usually are animals based on your personality or memories, not just some random animal
Hagrid said he couldn't spell it. That doesn't essentially mean he's bad at spelling. I always thought he was too afraid to write it down. Right?
Its spelled exactly the same as it sounds... Vol-duh-mort
@@thathsaraamarasinghe6774 theres a big debate on wether its vol de mort, or vol de more the reason why people say the latter is because its french and means flight from death

You shouldn't have said that😂
ok
Maybe Hagrid's patronus is a bumblebee... cause Dumbledore.. hehe
A GIANT bee. Scary but fuzzy and benevolent. I could totally see it lol
i'm thinking Japanese giant hornet.
think about it:
it is a venomous, armoured, flying creature with an attitude that smells, which is right up swagrids alley, it has giant in the name, thus hinting at hagrids "secret" nature without it needing to be an actual giant and it is a creature really only swagrid could find any redeeming values in.
Hagrid is allergic to cats, it says so when he takes Harry to Diagon Alley
They don't use the hipagrifs because the thestrals can go any where you tell them to so even if you dont know where Hogwarts is in relation to anything the thestral can still get you there.
Good points, also the thestrals were just who happened to show up. They were attracted to the smell of Grawp's blood on Harry and Hermione, so they were the quickest and first ride available.
Good piont
I like how every misspells hippogriff.
Her face was like ; "No way..."
Mine's a Leopardes.
Lucky! I’ve got an obsession with cats but I got a snake on pottermore so... Yeah
I got a st bernard... I don't like big dogs (a bit more if they're fluffy though).

If Fluffy was sent "back to Greece" does that mean that Fluffy is actually Cerberus, the guardian of the Underworld?
There is a meme somewhere on the Internet combining a picture of Hagrid with a scene from Disney's Hercules when Hagrid says that he got Fluffy from a Greek wizard
Maybe Cerberus has had babies since antiquity.
CroakPad I think it's more like Cerberus are native to Greece and had myths based on them
considering Kerberos means "spotted" and "spot" one of the most common cute-dog names, it's not too far fetched that the hound of hades, guardian of the underworld would be called fluffy. however Kerberos is usually depicted as being part snake, usually having snakes coming from his back, being his tail, or being his manes/more heads (tho he has also been depicted/described as having 50/100/2/1 head(s) a venomous mouth, three tongues/backs/bodies/tails...) so there's no way to be certain.
I assumed that was the joke
When J said that Fluffy was (loosely paraphrasing) a giant dog of the underworld, and then that he was sent 'back' to Greece, it made me think. Three-headed dog. Greece. "Dog of the underworld." What if Fluffy is Cerberus? Or one of Cerberus's
relatives?
Though, if the Greek Gods, or any Gods/Godesses in the Wizarding World are real, for that matter, I do not know,
Harry should feel lucky that Fluffy is one of the relatives of Cerberus, and not one of Ammits cousins (Ammit eats your soul)
Squirreltail deputty Was Egyptian Mythology ever referenced in Harry Potter? I do not know if Ammit the Devourer exists in Harry Potter.
I dunno, it just popped up in my head
Mine's a hedgehog, ALSO ADORABLE. Cant judge you!
Honestly, as soon as I saw the title of the video I thought to myself "It's gonna be Aragog, duh..."
I like your logic and reasoning, and not a waste of time... Just because Hagrid cannot produce the corporeal form doesn't mean it's spirit doesn't dwell inside him.
Vanessa Maureen yeah me too 😂
I was thinking Buckbeak early on - but once he ruled him out, I paused the video and thought of Aragog. Mildly proud of myself xD
ITS A DRAGON!!!!!!
"He's giant, he's hairy."

Where Wolf??
WHAT ABOUT NORBERT? No for real though imagine a tiny bity baby Dragon patronus! How cuuute
Norberta!!! Remember he is a she 😋🐲
Savannah A ohhh you're right! Man gotta read the books again, it's been a minute!
I love how you answered that question about fluffy that already upset me the second you mentioned it. I would have never found that tweet.
In dog terms I see him as a great pyrenees for sure, huge and soft and cuddly (and kind of a big baby, in the best way)
Yes, I agree! He is a fiercely loyal friend. Remember when the wizards set his house on fire while Fang was in there? Or how he became when anyone insulted Dumbledore? He is only angry in defense of others and what's right. I think a Staffy makes a great patronus for Hagrid.
Can you do a video on what would Draco’s Potronus and Boggart would be?
Akira Chaos Suta Dracos patronus is a Ferret
His boggart would likely have been his father dead. Cursed Child probably Scorpius dead or Astoria dead
I think Draco's boggart is Lord Voldemort
Gideon Gold a ferret! I mean their cute and all but why a ferret
Because in the Goblet of Fire mad eye moody turns him into a ferret
To count against cats as well, Hagrid makes it clear he doesn’t like Mrs. Norris!

Is it just me or does dead Arragog look much smaller that Arragog from The Chamber of Secrets? Just meh? Cause that really bothers me.
Skylar Combs it does
I think Aragog's size in Chamber of Secrets was due to his legs being spread out, where as they're curled up after his death. Not to mention, he probably looked bigger compared to smol Harry and Ron as opposed to older Harry.
Skylar Combs Arragog grows you know
I’m always thinking the same when seeing this scene and it bothers me too! But maybe he’s all dried out and shrunk ... which wouldn't be logical either, because dead spiders don’t shrink, but then he’s an Acromantula. They might be different ...

J, I defy you to cast your patronus when I cast mine!
At the beginning of the video, I definitely thought Hagrid would have a mother grizzly bear patronus. He is very loving, and if you mess with the people he cares for, he's gonna defend them. But I definately agree with J's theory!
I think it is either a dragon or a hippogriff because hippogriffs were his first lesson to teach but he does love dragons
Gaint spider? I he went to Azkaban for Aragog
Kraken... Hagrid's patronus is a kraken. "Greatly misunderstood beasts, krakens"
(I bet you read that with Hagrid's voice)
Just kidding lol
I was actually guessing that an acromantula would be the best choice for Hagrid, and then you brought it up! Day made
Am I the only one who has seen all these videos before and still binge-watching them again
Hagrid doesn't like cats, they make him sneeze 2:21 also he interacts with Mrs Norris
I want to know why Harry doesn't see the thestrals when going back at the end of goblet, but does see them at the beginning of order.
fingolfin7001 It's because Harry had not yet fully understood what had happened.
Good idea.
Hermione loves weasley which is short for an otter. Love the bear idea as patronus for Hagrid
Otters are actually very intelligent. I've always thought it fits her alright. Except I would associate otters with someone more playful maybe.
Kel McGowan I took the quiz twice, the first time it was a brown bear, the second it was a hawk
Noone: Watching the video like it's any other day
Me+ other Greeks: Thanks Dumbledore for sending back unantended a three headed dog and setting it loose in a small country
Aλλά προέρχονται απο την ελληνική μυθολογία
Before watching the video I would guess Hagrids patronus would be a dragon or a spider. Dragon seem like it couldn't be an option because patronuses are usually more "simple creatures". So I guess my money is on spider. Aragog was a pretty big deal for Hagrid after all.
Btw, I just made a video sinning the cinemasins eww HP and the Goblet of fire (and all the previous ones). give them a look if interested :)
Captain Sveid my patronus is a dragon 😂⚡️
Actually Dragons can Become patronuses~ I think it is explained in the pottermore page
I think Jo is grossly underestimating Hagrid. I agree he couldn't produce a patronus but only because he hasn't been taught how. The magic he performs with a broken wand at least proves he was talented. I think it would have been Arogog also or perhaps something to do with Dumbledore.
lilyrose mitchell she wrote him you muppet
I think that his would be a dragon. EDIT. I forgot about aragog. I wrote this b4 I watched this

You’re Patronus isn’t usually supposed to be your favorite animal
Emilija skyriūtė im a ravenclaw too my patronus is a white stallion
My patronus is a mastiff (a kind of dog)
I'm a Ravenclaw too and my patronus is a greyhound
Um J I don't mean to be rude but I did some patronus research and here's what I found.
" Fox Terrier - This is a small yet fearless dog that loves being outside and around people. If you have this Patronus, you are spunky and loyal. They work well in teams, so when teaming up with other Patronuses, you can't be beaten. "
and.....
I thought of a dragon first, I went to giant 🕷 spider since it’s the only one he cries for.
he cries for his dragon, and puts a teddybear in the box when shipping him.
He also cried for buck beak
I thought of a giant dragon, but a giant spider would seem more simple
Times like this that i'm happy I turned notifications on.
I got a Dragon for a Patronus. It seems the complete opposite of me. I'm a quiet, introverted guy yet I got a fierce, destructive creature as a Patronus. I kinda like it.
Are you talking about wizards unite or any other game ??
You forgot one creature that hagrid loves more than even any other - Aragog the spider
Hippogriffs are not as fast or efficient as Thestrals, and they have a much shorter effective range of travel. Thestrals have a range of ove 500 miles, and can fly at speeds of up to 170 miles per hour, only matched by the fastest of racing-specific broomsticks.
Yes and thestrals are hidden from many already.
Didn't Sirius fly Buckbeak (sorry, Weatherwings) from Scotland to Greece? Even with rest stops, that's a heck of a range.
(range: what it can fly without resting. I always saw them going to Greece as more like a road trip.)
also thestrals have an amazing sense of direction, i doubt a hippogriph could find the ministry of magic for them.
InventorZahran 327 goddamnit stop ruining the fact that I got a hippogriff patronus over a thestral patronus for me. I was cool with it until now!

Hagrid's patronus is a Dragon!
I agree ... it’s either a blast-ended skrewt or a dragon (Norwegian ridgeback)
I love cats! Don't let umbridge spoil them for you
I just found out that I'm Ravenclaw, and my patronus is a black bird! lol! Proud proud proud!
Im in Ravenclaw too!
Ravenclaw, Thunderbird, my Patronus is a Great Grey Owl and my wand core is Phoenix feather. So I guess I’m a bird at heart, haha.
I am a Ravenlcaw and i have a black and white cat patronus and my wand core is unicorn
I'm in Ravenclaw to, but i don't know what my patronus
Me too! Ravenclaw and black bird haha
Hagrid is afraid of cats. He despises Ms.Norris.
Also, Giant is an option, it’s mentioned in the books (don’t remember which one) with a capital G.
Seth Tan he's not *afraid* of them. Pretty much everyone hated ms Norris
Actually cats make him sneeze.
I think what you're referring to is how Harry first imagined a patronus.
"Harry had a sudden vision of himself crouching behind a hagrid-sized figure holding a large club."
Oh an the giant’s name is Grawp
Giants are (somewhat) sapient. Or, they can breed with humans, anyway...I kinda think that would rule them out, or McGonagal and the Mauraders would be casting their human-selves vs their animagi forms as their patronuses
Highkey choked on my spit when he called me out for my threstral patronus, that's so oddly specific- my FBI agent is a time traveler for sure
You’re proposing Hagrid loves Aragog more than he loves Fang?
Sam Klein well I guess Arragog'a was his first pet, because he had Arragog in his 3rd year, the year Tom Riddle opened the Chamber of Secrets 50 years before Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
Aragog was the first pet Hagrid had
He sneaked it into hogwarts. Even when Aragog waa the reason he had been expelled, he loved him and cared for him
On the other hand he himself didn't like Fang that much because he was not Hagrid's kind not some big beast
Then at the end it said “your very confusing patronus is a lynx”
Thanks pottermore like to see I am weird
Guacamoli ! I’m also a Lynx and it did the same thing for me!
Maybe Umbridge had the Hippogrifs removed from Hogwarts, but not the Thestrals since she could not see them.
Thank you, you just made me realize I would buy a book or movie just to see Hagrid reunite with Norbert
Omg yes, Aragog is absolutely the perfect patronus for Hagrid - although might I add that I imagine Hagrid's patronus would take the form of a younger Aragog? Little, terrier sized Aragog from back when Hagrid got expelled rather than massive car sized Aragog from when Harry met him in Chamber of Secrets
Also I am very offended - CATS ARE AWESOME how dare you
My patronus would absolutely be a cat, my best friend, Luna.
Or they were stressed and the thestrals just came to them so it was easier to take the thestrals than trying to find hippogriffs
There is no way he didn't know about them.
well, technically Aragog was born in Hogwarts... and was living in the forest which was ... "forbidden" for the students
I’m a hufflepuff and my patronus is a badger.
Oooo~
Coincidence? I THINK NO!
Who knows , it might actually be a blast ended skrewt !
FLOBBERWORM!!
Hagrid patronus :every animal combined but no cats ... NO CATS
My a mole:/ like I assume it was a bunny or cat with my adorable personality but no a mole.
Elfycorn Me too. Disappointing.
Mine is a polecat, which I guess is fine, but I had to look it up because I didn't even know what it was, so I'm still not sure it's right. (It's kind of like a ferret)
Mines a hare
Moles are so cute though!! I love them!
@@mackenzieuhlenhopp2441 are you guys talking about some website quiz or something? Just pick your own lol why complain about some algorithm's choice for your animal totem XD
I don't know why but I could see hagrids patronus being a big Bathoven dogs💛⚡🌻
Do you mean Beethoven? If so, he was a Saint Bernard.
Caroline Cole
I was wondering what a bathoven dog was!
Juliet Felice fang was an over sized boar hound not a Great Dane.
